Favorite Trail:Anything with lots of climbing

Strengths:Stays Puts, Strong
Weaknesses:Expensive
Bottom Line:This is a great grip system. The clamps are easy to install and stay put, the grips are comfortable. The only downside is that it's expensive, but considering how much longer these tend to last than cheaper grips, I think it evens out in the long run.

Strengths:Great feeling grip. Decent wear. When locked tight, the grips does not move.
Weaknesses:The screws are made of butter. You have to be so careful to not overtighten for the head will strip, then you're SOL. I have stripped 2 sets now. ARRGH! The size is suppose to be 2.5mm, but it actually is a bit loose which is what causes it to strip it. I've emailed Odi about it, but never got a response. Too bad!
Bike Setup:2007 Specialized Demo 8.
Bottom Line:If you have extra screws around, or are a surgeon at tightening screws these may be for you. Some others have not had this problem, try em and decide for yourself. If you don't like, you can always compain here. It's off to the nut and bolt store again, they really love it when you make them look for 2 $0.05 screws.

Duration Product Used:1 Year
Strengths:Do what they say they're supposed to do. I like products that do that.
Weaknesses:Much more expensive then regular grips (up 3x). Metal lock rings can easily scratch things, like the cars parked in your garage. Hamfisted mechanics beware, the little bolts don't require much torque and can strip easily.
Similar Products Used:non-locking grips
Bike Setup:Varies
Bottom Line:Not much to say, these things work well and are a good choice if you live in the PAC NW like me where rain can make your grips slip right off the bars. They're kind of pricey and the instructions should probably emphasize not overtightening the little screws, but above that they've done what they're supposed to do and I haven't had any problems. Overall very pleased and can say that they were worth the money.

Bottom Line:Excellent product. Can be ridden hard and come back for more. I've been using the system for two years without any setbacks.......have changed grips once.

Pay attention to the "burrito" below: grip tabs develop play after several years of hard riding. Well Duh! What grips wouldn't be junk after two years of hard riding....lock-ons or not! If you use your equipment hard, expect to replace it on a regular basis.......I think that one hard season of riding is a normal span of time to get from yer grips, but hey call me crazy.

Strengths:Grips will not twist, period.
Weaknesses:Grips develop play and shift in the lockjaw sockets
Similar Products Used:tons of different ones
Bottom Line:The perfect reviews of this system come from people who do not ride very hard or have used the grips for a limited period of time.

When I first put them on, I thought I had found the promised land. A couple of years later, I think I maybe done with 'em.

They are excellent at first, but the plastic tabs on the grips which lock into the lockjaw eventually wear out, resulting in a few mm of play. Very annoying. In the final analysis, though, it is not as annoying as twisty grips. Who knows, I may stick with them after all. There is no perfect grip, so don't think these are the end of all your grip worries. They are a clever solution in need of tougher materials.

The grips themselves are nothing to write home about -- not bad, not great.

If I could get Ourys to stay put, those would be perfect.

Strengths:Sits firmly on your bar, they look intensely cool.
Weaknesses:None if you follow the instructions.
Similar Products Used:lizard skins, the-very-thin PD tomac ones, plus a bunch of other
Bike Setup:a frame, two wheels, and some gears
Bottom Line:I've geen using this product for three weeks now, I've got the hardcore grips which are extremely wonderful to your palm. If you look at them the big bulky YETI letters micht look uncomfortable, but they are made out of very soft rubber, almost like latex (but not annoyingly sticky).
I can understand that the issue about stripping the bolt might worry some people, but if you are careful and tighten the bolts in small steps until the grip sits tight, it's not really a problem.
If you spend at least 5 minutes on this you wont be getting into any problems.
An advise is to use the allen key that you get in the package and tightening the bolts with the "long end", holding the "short end" between your thumb and index finger, will make it less dangerous I think.

I've got a black bar, chromey locks and black grips... it's so insanely good looking that my love for my bike went up a notch when I put them on. ;)

I think this product is for a wide range of people, the fact that they don't slip is the best fact of course, but even if your goal is to make your bar sexier, this stuff is recommended.

Ah well, the bottom line is that they don't slip, the grip is nice and good, and they look very, very cool.

Value: 4 - A bit pricey and you can get regular grips non-slipping, even if it's more troublesome.
Overall: 5 - There isn't any aspect that's not great about this product.

If you're not a ham-fisted mechanic, you should have no problems getting these tight (Note to ham-fisted mechs: the air wrench and sledge you use on the rest of your components won't work here! :). I've been using the same pair for over two years and it's just about time to replace em. Just remember that these are small screws and you don't need to do like most self-proclaimed bike mechanics and apply as much torque to these as your crank bolts and you'll be *fine*.

I've run the rogue grips, didn't like them as much as the Yeti grips. The Yetis have a smaller profile and feel like they've got better traction from all the logos. Gonna try the Ruffian grips next.

Strengths:Ease of install, NO SLIP! Easy to remove to adjust other levers. Great grip feel- no mushyness.
Weaknesses:Bolts need re-engineering
Similar Products Used:Ritchey, Pedros, generic
Bike Setup:Installed on carbon bar... oh, what does it matter- just get out and ride.
Bottom Line:Never, EVER mess with screwdriver, hairspray, alcohol, etc ever again. If you need to adjust, replace your shifter/brake levers, simply loosen and remove grips. It saves so much time and energy over prying and twisting conventional grips.

Also, the grips are very light on rubber so you feel completely connected to the bike. There is no squirmy, squishy, mushy feeling or too much rubber. Like disc brakes, these grip will NEVER slip in any condition. I've had grips slide off the bar in rainy, muddy rides. These have yet to show any indication of slipping. If you install them onto carbon bars, be certain not to over tighten the clamps (this holds for anything bar mounted) and that the bar and the inside of the grip tubes are clean.

4 chilis because the bolts are weak.

No more: hair spray, utility knives, screwdrivers (that sometimes puncture soft grips)compressed air or any other neandrathalic methods! I wish this concept was available years ago. A bit expensive to set up for the first time, especially with multiple bikes but worth the investment in ease of use (mechanically) and reliability (no twisting on the bar). Strengths:Ease of fit. Good wide grip.
Weaknesses:Allen bolts not entirely smooth under tightening.
Similar Products Used:Specialised S-works, GT
Bike Setup:Stumpie M4 pro hardtail
Bottom Line:I bought these when I had to change my handlebars (crash damage) and couldn't face the rigmarole of going through the spit, hairspray etc etc routine yet again.

I bought the ruffians - so far only have about 4 hours riding time but they are comfortable and have a good width. My hands are big and I have bar ends- using the previous grips the control area was a little cramped although I hadn't fully realised previously.

On fitting the ODI's I found that I was much more comfortable on longer rides - especially on long down hill sections under braking (I'm not used to these in England where I originate) - my hands have stopped cramping up and I find that my forearms are less sore the following day.

The real bonus is in the fitting though - once I had cut the old grips off the hard work was over - the ODI's slip smoothly and easily onto the handlebars and it was easy to position them precisely and simply tighten. When I took off the old grips I found that the old bars were significantly scored underneath where they had been levered on with a small screwdriver - the ODI's prevent any such problems. In fact they arguable increase your safety margin - with lightweight alu bars any scoring might be considered to increase the risk of breakage (although in my case as I hit a tree it's hard to blame the kit :)

The ODI's may be marginally heavier but I find it hard to believe the extra few grams make a difference to anyone - certainly not me - I usually carry 2-3 litres of water so any other weight pales into insignificance).

The clamps may not be compatible with carbon bars ? - I had to tighten them down fairly hard to secure and would be worried about carbon. However they're excellent with alu or Ti.

They may be a bit more expensive but I suspect that they will make up for this in extended life during removal replacement - they are easy to remove so less liklihood of damage and early retirement. I would pay more for the ease of application anyway - excellent value and top product

I've looked in all my local shops and no one carries a bolt that size and seing them in a new package is just so fustrating.....

Bottom Line:I always had a problem with grips slipping on me when riding in the rain/mud/wet/icky weather. These don't slip. Nothing worse than pulling up for a log jump and having the grip slip off the bar. These don't have that problem. The little clamp bolts have never loosened on me. As for the lock-on grips, I've tried the YETI, Bontrager, Rogue and Ruffian models. The YETI were good - very "sticky", but the lettering/cushiness wore off, and you only had one position for the grips, so they wore out more quickly than those which can be rotated. Bonty are ok, a little thin, but still comfy. Ruffian are VERY thin - very little cushion - not for me [I ride with leather palm non-padded gloves]. Rogue are perfect. Thicker like OURY [not quite a squishy], but stay put. You can periodically rotate the grips side/side and twist 'em to increase lifetime. Only once after 3 months of summer riding did I have a problem: the grips were sweat-salt bonded to the handlebar. ICK! Ended up ruining the lockon clamps to remove em [with a hammer and screwdriver]. I recommend removing/cleaning inside grips periodically to avoid this problem.

Weaknesses:The only product weakness is the price of the grips. Also, the grips wear down too fast. I have already worn right through to the hard plastic. They are heavy. Not good for xc weight concious riders.
Bike Setup:Rocky Mountain blizzard (snapped at the head tube) Z3 light (2.5 inches) Race face bars, cranks, B.B. and headset. Alex supra E front rim, Azonic butcher rear wheel on a hugi hub
Bottom Line:These grips are the best! Even if you cant afford these, set a fund aside for them. They are worth there weight in Gold. Buy these grips and never complain about your grips slipping. never bail because your grip falls off in the rain. TRUST ME!!

Bottom Line:I'm the type that loves the added insurance of stability, quality, and value. And ODI has done just that with the Lock-On collars:

1) My grips haven't slipped, twisted or turned. And I doubt they ever will. That's the STABILITY.

2) Now that I have upgraded to an Easton Carbon Fiber MonkeyLite Riser Bar I want a non-solvant solution to keep my grips in place. I do NOT want to have place glue or cut on the carbon fiber surface. That's the QUALITY.

3) With glueing each time I removed my grips they came off via a razor knife and into the trash with my $10.00. That's the VALUE.

The bottom line? ODI has a winner, and with the current selection of grips in varying widths there isn't anyone who couldn't benefit from this product.

Similar Products Used:MTN-1 True Grip (from '88, excellent), Ritchey grips (crap), Yeti Speed Grips (great), Yeti Hardcore (crap)

Bottom Line:Overall, these are the best grips I've ever used. My original MTN-1s were more comfortable, and the Speed Grips held onto my hand better in severe nastiness, but nothing is as good as my Yeti-patterned Lock Jaws.
It used to be that changing handlebars was an hour-long process, what with getting a screwdriver and some lube in under the grip, then muscling them off, etc. Now I just loosen the bolts like I do with my brake levers and shifters. My only complaint is that the "jaws" take up extra space on the bar, which means I have barely enough room for bar ends, grips, shifters, and brake levers. I actually had to shift my hand position on the grips inboard so I could adequately reach the shifters. Not a big deal, but not cool either.

The product still rocks, though, especially in the wet.

Bike Setup:Easton CT-2 Carbon Handlebar
Bottom Line:Is this system really necessary? No, but it sure is convienent, and except to a weight watcher, they don't have any major drawbacks.

I've been frusterated with standard grips for a long time — I got the WD-40 & screwdriver trick down cold, but the process of removing and installing leaves something to be desired.

So I picked up an Easton CT2, and suddenly the ODI system seemed like a really good idea: you see, not only was it a little more difficult to slide standard grips onto a carbon bar, but I was suddenly very worried about the possibility of damaging the bar with a screwdriver when it came time to remove the grips. Lock Jaw's to the rescue!

I chose the Yeti logo grips, simply because I loved the "standard" Yeti grips that I'd used up until then. Tell you what, a logo does not make a grip! The Lock-Jaw Yetis have a smaller palm pad, and are harder and sharper than their "standard" counterpart. They almost certainly require the use of gloves, and even then will do a good job of tearing up the leather palm and fingers.

I'm still using the Yetis (my Specalized golves have a pretty durable, non-leather palm pad), but will have to switch to the roughian grips once these wear out. A friend of mine picked this style grip against my advice, and agrees that they feel "sharp".

However: the Lock-Jaw design itself is very secure, and the grips do not spin, even on my carbon bar. The amount of torque to the bolts required is only moderate, and I do not get the sense that they are anywhere near the limit of striping the threads.

If you're curious, give them a try. Shop around for some different grip choices, check online for the shortie grip shift versions if your a twister, and don't crank the bolts down any tighter than necessary.

Weaknesses:bolts strip very easily, you have to tighten the bolts very much to keep the grips fro slipping, but inorder to keep the grips from slipping, you have to tighten it so much that you slip the soft aluminum bolts.
Bottom Line:these grips are a total rip off. they do not work. i wasted my time, effort and $$$ on this product.

first of all the lockjaw ring thingy's were almost impossible to get onto the rubber grip itself. then after that i slid the grip/lockjaw combo onto the handlebar [fair enough it was easy i thought ...]. but then as soon as i tightened the bolts to what i thought was proper torque [the manual says DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN], i tested the grip by throttling it, seeing if it would slip - and it still slid! so i guess maybe i have to tighten the bolts more, nope, no go because now the super soft aluminum bolts are stripped by the 1 mm hex key. Bottom line this product is garbage and does not work. Maybe it was because it doesnt work with my carbon bar, who knows? I had a real tough time taking the god'darn grips off my carbon bar, and in the process tore a huge gash into my bar from the odi lockjaw mechanism.

on my way back to sportinglife tomorrow see if they will do anything about it for me:(

Strengths:everything you would expect from a great grip PLUS... absolute and instant rock-solid connection to your handlebar without a smidgen of give/rotation/doubt. flexibility, reusability, swappability and unlimited brake/shifter access(hampered in an extremely minor way by the bolts - see weaknesses)
Weaknesses:If you overtighten these it's startlingly easy to strip the soft bolts that tighten the collar. It's easy to avoid doing this when you install the grips, but if you like to experiment and swap stuff between bikes the durability of the bolts could be an issue.
Similar Products Used:Pedro's Thinwalls (wired on), Serfas Connectors (the super thin clear ones), Schwinn Homegrown (I *think* they were called Homegrowns - they had the little tomatoes on them. They were a lot like Connectors and they ended up being too thick for me)
Bike Setup:Santa Cruz Superlight with Z-1, Discs, Rhyno Lites and Med-Hi end components
Bottom Line:These grips sure are cool. I'm using the "Ruffians" because I like a thinner grip - I've found that the Ruffians are just thin enough to feel right.

Wanna hear a big story? Here goes:

For the longest time I've used the Serfas Connectors as my grip of choice - thin, STICKY rubber. I'd always wondered why so many people complained that their grips rotated. Then I found out that many of them were using hairspray - which reconstitutes into a lubricant when exposed to water, mud, sweat, humidity, mountain biking, etc - to hold their grips in place.
My big secret was to get a smooth (inside) grip with an incredibly sticky rubber compound (the kind that naturally sticks together when you squeeze the grips' inner walls shut against each other), clean the bar and inside of the grip thoroughly with rubbing alcohol and slide the grip onto the bar in a couple seconds, using the alcohol as a lubricant. Leave the bike for a couple overnights inside, somewhere warm, and the alcohol evaporates out from under the grip, leaving this weird, grippy, like, MOLECULAR bond between the smooth, clean bar and the smooth, clean grip that no grit or liquid can ever possibly penetrate. Now go ride straight through the winter in the crappiest Washington downpours, crashing constantly into deep mud puddles and never, ever thinking about your grips even once until you need a new pair.
It's probably pretty obvious that I was pretty smug about my genius until I had my first unfixable problem with grip slippage: I have an Azonic handlebar on my newest bike and it's got that goofy bead-blasty, anodizey black finish on it that wrecks any chance of getting a decent bar/grip seal (I absolutely love the bars in every other way, though). My age-old, invincble Serfas-and-alcohol technique was powerless against such an inscrutably ridiculous choice of handlebar finish. The same was true for Pedro's Thinwalls. Even wiring the grips wouldn't fix this hideous new throttling problem.

Then I got the Ruffians and I'm done thinking about it now. And when your grips wear out you can re-use the collars! Woo-hoo! They even make 'em sized for twist-shifters. It would take serious threats against my person to keep me from buying more of these grips.

Steel wrench VS. Aluminum bolt = Wrench wins.
I don't have enormous Mr. Olympian forearms but when i upgraded my brake levers, when i went to take them off - two bolts stripped. This was on the unbolting phase not the tightening part. Grease those bolts or coat then in ti prep. Check them regularly for loosening.

Bottom Line:Why would anyone use plain rubber grips, now that ODI has had the brainstorm of the century? How many times have you had your grips twist, come loose, etc...
Riding these grips is a whole new experience. I always used to feel some "twist" in the ends of my grips, no matter who put 'em on. No more! These babies are rock solid. I use the "rogue" grip, and it feels as good as any I've used. Plus, now I never have to worry about piercing my pinky finger with that stupid wire! Not only that, but the outside clamp functions as a bar end protector, which by itself, normally costs 5-10 bucks.
Latly, yeah, they are expensive, but you only have to buy the clamps once. After that, anytime you change the grips, just re-use the clamps you've got. The grips themselves are no more expensive than any others. A bargain when you see it that way.

Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $30.00
Purchased At:Bicycle World of Goldsboro
Strengths:When set up properly, these grips will not slip. There are three styles available and they come in both full size and twist shift. The rubber compound is tacky and offers excellent grip. And last but not least........they look damn good!
Weaknesses:Grips wear faster than most (except for the Rogue model.) Alloy locking cups fade over time (who cares?)
Similar Products Used:-Yeti Hardcore

Bike Setup:'00 CAAD 3 w/all the bells and whistles. '00 i-drive w/even more bells and louder whistles
Bottom Line:This is a no nonsense grip. Bolt it on and forget about it. The plastic core offers a solid feel underneath the rubber outer sleeve. The initial cost may be high (for a grip), but it is well justified out on the trail. If slippage is your problem, this is your grip.

Weaknesses:umm...your hands slip on the grips if they are wet are you are not wearing gloves? as with any other grip sooo...
the colored clamps fade after years of use...can you tell i'm having a lot of trouble fidning weaknesses?
Similar Products Used:OURY, profile, ATI, etc
Bottom Line:I have and will continue to have them on every single bike I own. Ok, they are more expensive than other grips but during the 2 years I have used them I would have spent a lot more on replacing grips. They have not moved in the two years I've had them on my bikes. Maintainence on the bikes have been a snap due to the easy removal of the grips which makes traveling with the bikes easier as well when you need to break them down. All I know is that someone at ODI is either very rich or getting heaps of praise right now and will probably continue to do so for awhile...

Price Paid: $15.00
Purchased At:HDK Cycles Kempsville
Strengths:No glue, hairspray, tube cement, zip ties, twisting wires, rubbing alcohol, air compressor needed. Just a 2.5mm allen keeps them in place. Great feel. Variety of grip patterns. Well worth the extra price.
Weaknesses:Stripped bolts?-It's a 2.5mm...take it easy. 1/16th inch of play?-Read the directions. I have the Ruffians and have noticed the rubber starting to wear away already...w/out gloves they make my hands black. No big deal, I always ride w/gloves anyway.
Similar Products Used:Cheap all-rubber grips.
Bike Setup:'99 Schwinn Moab 2, Marzocchi Z.2 SuperFly, XT drive, Easton MonkeyLite Carbon bars.
Bottom Line:I will use these grips on every bike I will ever own. No more wrestling with all-rubber grips any more. Installation and removal is a snap. The metal clamps protect the ends of my carbon bars. Big bonus because on most trails I ride the trees like reaching out and smacking the ends of my bars(tight singletrack, lotsa trees). If anyone has to change their grips even once they should be replaced with ODI Lock Jaws.

Bike Setup:

Bottom Line:I orginally purchased these because I was waiting for a new bar to arrive in the mail and I couldn't decide if I'd want to run with bar ends on my new bar. I wanted to have the ability to move the grips around to experiment with different grip positions before getting it all glued down. At first I had a hard time getting the clamps onto the grips but, I finnaly got everything settled and adjusted the way I wanted. These grips do not move once they are clamped down (there is a 1/16 play between the grips and the clamps that's hardly noticeable). Once my new bar arrived I unfastened the grips (wow! no solvent smell) and slid them onto the new bar. I didn't even have to wait for them to dry. After three months they have worn a little bit more than anticipated but, they make up for it is stickiness. I'd give them five chilies if they were a little more reasonable (don't you think $30 is just a little steep?).
