Description:A lightweight grip for racing. The underlying concept is based on the successful GP and GR ranges. A compact body with a significantly slimmer wing, and lower grip radius in the mid section than the GP1. The grip is specially designed for fast hand position changes in changing riding conditions. Made from a lightweight rubber and combined with a lightweight highly secure clamp.

    Strengths:Ergonomic...I.E...reduced pain.
    Weaknesses:None.
Similar Products Used:Tried some Cannondale Morse Grips.
    Bike Setup:Felt Virtue 1, stock.
Bottom Line:My hands get really numb on long downhill sections. I found I had to stop and shake them out every 5-10 minutes or the pain got to the point where I would have difficulties gripping the handlebars. I tried the aforementioned Cannondale grips, and while they were better than the stock grips, they still didn't solve the problem.

...these however are great. I still get some pain, but it's greatly reduced. They do exactly what they're designed for...reduce pressure on the ulnar nerve.

I've got to refute a few other reviews I read for this product below.

They've locked on really well, and don't slip at all. Maybe the other reviewers weren't tightening down with enough torque for fear of breaking the handlebars. I've had no problem with this.

Control of the bike is not reduced with these either. They either installed them at the wrong angle, or aren't talking about the same product (as shown in the picture above). The small, winglike extension is maybe a centimeter, and if positioned correctly won't affect your grip at all. (the wing should be pointed almost directly back at you...maybe an 75 deg. angle...)

I definately would reccomend this to anyone who has experienced pain or numbness.

    Strengths:Comfort on long rides.
Better platform for people with hand problems.
No loss of control on downhills like previous models.
    Weaknesses:Price.

Bottom Line:I like long rides on fairly technical terrain. Unfortunately, a long ago bike accident left me with some scar tissue in my palm which would cause irritation after about an hour of riding. I learned to live with this for years until I tried a pair of Ergon GP-1 grips on my old Specialized Epic. The grips were great for most riding; however, I did notice a marked loss of control on technical downhills which required me to adjust my riding style.

When I bought my new bike, I saw these new grips online. I decided to buy them in the hopes that they offer more control than the old GP-1s. They do. They are a slightly smaller diameter which affords more control and the rest pad area has a little indentation on the underside for even more finger control.

I can say that these GX-1 grips are the best for long rides on technical XC terrain where you still need downhill control. The GP-1 grips are probably better suited for mellower xc trails. If you are downhilling exclusively - stick with regular lock on grips.

I disagree with another poster who complained about problems installing these grips. They went on very easily and have not slipped at all.

Overall, this product is well worth the cash but it would be nice if they were a little cheaper.

    Strengths:idea

    Bike Setup:super cool
Bottom Line:I ordered these as I've been spending a lot of time on the bike training for an all mtn. race and my hands have been sore. when they came in, the mechanic installed and couldn't get the clamp to hold them firm. clamping system is sub par, so even if the grip would heal my hands, I can't ride it...

Strengths:ergonomic, reduce palm soreness, extremely grippy with Fox full-fingered leather gloves.
Weaknesses:feels like less hand hold, but it's just that a feeling.
Similar Products Used:something like it on a BMX bike about 28 years ago.
    Bike Setup:Giant NRS
Bottom Line:I bought these to reduce soreness in my palm from long XC rides. They definitely do that. I find them very comfortable. I wear a size 10 Fox glove to give you an idea of my hand size.

I waited until the GX models came out before buying the Ergon grips because the GX models are lighter. The last few rides have been more technical single track with climbs and downhills. If I was only riding DH, then I probably wouldn't get these grips because it feels like I have less of hold, and I don't know how much you would need the ergo-feature for that type of riding. I would have given it more

Duration Product Used:Tested or demo'ed only
Strengths:Look sick, tight tolerance for the duration I used them didnt experience any play
Weaknesses:Grips are very user preferance, initial setup felt very comfortable, however after 1 hr of riding my hands became very numb..badly, even after rotating the grips. I also ride w/o gloves and obviously found the grips un grippy compared to my odi ourys, your grip will be reduced if riding dh(At least I found)
Similar Products Used:ruffian, intense odi lock on, oury lock on
Bottom Line:I would highly recommend trying them first before you buy.
The product design looks very ergonomic and makes complete sence from a sales point of view. Sorry to say but these grips are going to say hello to my the fenders and ol lx shifters.
