Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $30.00
Purchased At:Performance Bike
Strengths:Nice Feel, great support or the ball of the hand.
Weaknesses:Only one lock makes getting them firmly on the bars (Easton Monkelylite) impossible. I kept twisting them during rides. Caused one sard sale as my grip twisted completely during a high speed turn.
Similar Products Used:ODI. Lizard Skins
Bike Setup:Titus Racer X Carbon, SRAM X.0, Noir Cranks, DID World Cup, Easton Monkeylite bars, EC 90 post, Fizik Gobi saddle, Cobalt Wheels
Bottom Line:Can't recommend these until they add lock ons to both ends of the grip

Strengths:Design....it makes complete sense.
Weaknesses:None
Bike Setup:Turner Flux
Bottom Line:Best choice in grips period.  Takes a little time to get them just right.  Make the investment, you'll be happy you switched.   If your wrists still hurt it's more than just the grips....it's you bike fit.

Date Reviewed: May 10, 2009
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $39.00
Purchased At:REI
Strengths:Seem to be well made. Installation is easy. Removal too!
Weaknesses:Didn't work for me.

1) I sometimes have numbness in my left hand which makes shifting difficult. I hoped that these grips would alleviate that, but they didn't. I tried some different angles and rode them for 3-4 rides, but they are apparently made to address a different problem than mine.

2) These are firmer grips than the ODIs I usually run. Due to that stiffness, or perhaps the shape of the grip, my hands got more tired than usual, both on the road and during a MTB ride on rocky terrain.

3) The shape made me feel less secure in techy situations, particularly fast downhills where I want a secure grip and 1 finger on the brake. You can't really get 'behind' the grip with these.

4) they are heavier than normal grips, 60 grams more for the pair than my normal grips.
Bike Setup:Yeti ASR.
Bottom Line:They seem like a high quality product, but they didn't work for me.

Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $25.00
Purchased At:24 Hrs at the Old Pu
Strengths:Super comfort, well constructed, heavy duty clamp
Weaknesses:Can't think of any
Similar Products Used:Specialized ergo grips
Bike Setup:Sworks Epic
Bottom Line:The grips are the best ever! Ergon had a tent setup at this years 24 Hrs at the Old Pueblo, and had some screaming deals on grips. I looked at them a couple of times and finally decided to try a pair. It took a few rides to get the angle adjusted right where I wanted it. I immediately noticed my hands just did not hurt like they normally did with round grips. After a month of use, I decided to take them off and try the round ODI lockons again. Bad decision. After 20 mins on the trail, my hands were screaming for the Ergons. I had no idea how much of a difference they actually made until I took them off my bike and tried round grips again. That will be the last time!

These grips are incredible. I cannot recommend them highly enough. My hands used to ache on every mtb ride. I constantly moved them around on the bars. My hands never hurt now. The wing provides a lot of support for your palm.

Favorite Trail:Stella
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $38.00
Purchased At:REI
Strengths:Slim enough to not really notice a difference from standard grip, Great support for my hands, Reasonable weight, Nice grip pattern works well with gloves
Weaknesses:Price is a little steep compared to other lock on grips, clamp bolts were too short but same as rotor bolts or water bottle bolts so I had longer ones to fix that.
Similar Products Used:Cane Creek Moab Lock On, Quarry Grips
Bike Setup:29er hardtail
Bottom Line:For the two tards who only "Tested or Demo'd" these grips and gave them low scores...try actually using these for more than a test ride before making a review. Your reviews is worthless, I'll bet you submit plenty of worthless reviews on MTBR!

Now enough of that rant. These grips take a few rides to get the position dialed in. it would be pure luck to get it right the first time. Carry a mini tool with you and be prepared to make several adjustments before getting them in the right position. But once you do...oh my do they feel nice. Hand pain and numb fingers are GONE! Long descents are no longer tests of hand pain threshold. I do feel they are a bit over-priced considering other lock on grips run around $25 for the complete package. But given the comfort, I would happily pay $38 again for another pair.

Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $40.00
Purchased At:LBS
Strengths:Very easy to install, and adjust. Comfort is amazing, and way better than I expected. No more numb arms!
Weaknesses:Pricy, allthough for me at least, its worth it. It takes some time and fiddling to get the angles right...again, worth it.
Similar Products Used:Stock grips
Bike Setup:K2 Zed 2.0 SE
Bottom Line:These grips are amazing.
Being a bit of a klutz, in the past, I have broken both my wrists, which makes riding anything more than a half an hour extremely uncomfortable. I tried different riding positions, different bar and stem combos, and nothing helped.
After a little research, I came across these grips. At first I thought it was just a gimmik. I found a shop that stocked em, so I headed out and bought a set.
After taking the time to get them into a position that worked for me (3-4 rides) I was sold. They didn't totally relieve the pain, but, I can now ride 3-4 hours with out and discomfort. A definite plus!
If you experience the same sort of discomfort as I do, then I highly recommend at least trying out these bad boys. They saved my life! Ok, maybe not my life, but they saved my hands!
Taking off a chili due to the high price

Strengths:These grips provide the perfect perch. Great gripping surface. Perfect size.
Weaknesses:The pinch bolts were not long enough, but the thread pitch is the same as caliper mounting bolts. Simple replacement from my parts bin.
Bike Setup:06 Specialized Stumpjumper FSR, not much stock on it. XT/XTR/carbon stuff.
Bottom Line:These are the real deal. They work, and they work extremely well. I am amazed every time I grab the bars. The need to change hand positions to prevent numbness or discomfort is gone. That small perch is exactly what I needed.

My biggest fear was that I would lose some control. These are small enough that the control issue is not an issue. If anything, it is enhanced.

Strengths:Ergonomic...I.E...reduced pain.
Weaknesses:None.
Similar Products Used:Tried some Cannondale Morse Grips.
Bike Setup:Felt Virtue 1, stock.
Bottom Line:My hands get really numb on long downhill sections. I found I had to stop and shake them out every 5-10 minutes or the pain got to the point where I would have difficulties gripping the handlebars. I tried the aforementioned Cannondale grips, and while they were better than the stock grips, they still didn't solve the problem.

...these however are great. I still get some pain, but it's greatly reduced. They do exactly what they're designed for...reduce pressure on the ulnar nerve.

I've got to refute a few other reviews I read for this product below.

They've locked on really well, and don't slip at all. Maybe the other reviewers weren't tightening down with enough torque for fear of breaking the handlebars. I've had no problem with this.

Control of the bike is not reduced with these either. They either installed them at the wrong angle, or aren't talking about the same product (as shown in the picture above). The small, winglike extension is maybe a centimeter, and if positioned correctly won't affect your grip at all. (the wing should be pointed almost directly back at you...maybe an 75 deg. angle...)

I definately would reccomend this to anyone who has experienced pain or numbness.

Strengths:Comfort on long rides.
Better platform for people with hand problems.
No loss of control on downhills like previous models.
Weaknesses:Price.
Similar Products Used:Ergon GP-1
Bike Setup:2008 Stumpjmuper Expert
Bottom Line:I like long rides on fairly technical terrain. Unfortunately, a long ago bike accident left me with some scar tissue in my palm which would cause irritation after about an hour of riding. I learned to live with this for years until I tried a pair of Ergon GP-1 grips on my old Specialized Epic. The grips were great for most riding; however, I did notice a marked loss of control on technical downhills which required me to adjust my riding style.

When I bought my new bike, I saw these new grips online. I decided to buy them in the hopes that they offer more control than the old GP-1s. They do. They are a slightly smaller diameter which affords more control and the rest pad area has a little indentation on the underside for even more finger control.

I can say that these GX-1 grips are the best for long rides on technical XC terrain where you still need downhill control. The GP-1 grips are probably better suited for mellower xc trails. If you are downhilling exclusively - stick with regular lock on grips.

I disagree with another poster who complained about problems installing these grips. They went on very easily and have not slipped at all.

Overall, this product is well worth the cash but it would be nice if they were a little cheaper.

Bottom Line:I ordered these as I've been spending a lot of time on the bike training for an all mtn. race and my hands have been sore. when they came in, the mechanic installed and couldn't get the clamp to hold them firm. clamping system is sub par, so even if the grip would heal my hands, I can't ride it...

Strengths:ergonomic, reduce palm soreness, extremely grippy with Fox full-fingered leather gloves.
Weaknesses:feels like less hand hold, but it's just that a feeling.
Similar Products Used:something like it on a BMX bike about 28 years ago.
Bike Setup:Giant NRS
Bottom Line:I bought these to reduce soreness in my palm from long XC rides. They definitely do that. I find them very comfortable. I wear a size 10 Fox glove to give you an idea of my hand size.

I waited until the GX models came out before buying the Ergon grips because the GX models are lighter. The last few rides have been more technical single track with climbs and downhills. If I was only riding DH, then I probably wouldn't get these grips because it feels like I have less of hold, and I don't know how much you would need the ergo-feature for that type of riding. I would have given it more

Strengths:Look sick, tight tolerance for the duration I used them didnt experience any play
Weaknesses:Grips are very user preferance, initial setup felt very comfortable, however after 1 hr of riding my hands became very numb..badly, even after rotating the grips. I also ride w/o gloves and obviously found the grips un grippy compared to my odi ourys, your grip will be reduced if riding dh(At least I found)
Similar Products Used:ruffian, intense odi lock on, oury lock on
Bottom Line:I would highly recommend trying them first before you buy.
The product design looks very ergonomic and makes complete sence from a sales point of view. Sorry to say but these grips are going to say hello to my the fenders and ol lx shifters.
