from Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada Date Reviewed: June 11, 2007 | | Duration Product Used: | More than 3 years | | Strengths: | Light, good grip (no need to buy seperate grip), act as end caps and grip locks, small, look good, comfortable. | | Weaknesses: | Price | | Similar Products Used: | EL cheapo aluminum/metal bar ends. | | Bike Setup: | Titec Hellbent handlebars, SRAM X.9 Gripshift, Dangerboy Levers, SRAM grips. | | Bottom Line: | Very nice. The ends themseves are made of rubber so you don't need to buy a seperate grip or worry about grips sliding around and ripping. Because they are all rubber, they are very cushy, not hard and fatiguing like a metal bar end.
They go on the end of the handlebars so they act like a cap and also like grip locks so nothing can slide off.
They are very small yet ergonomically shaped. They seem to fit perfectly in your hands. They are very , very, very comfy.
They are very pricey compared to cheaper regular bar ends, but if your riding a $1000+ bike, what's $50 or so to add extreme comfort.
I recommend these to all riders looking for bar ends. Don't settle for whatever is on your local bike shop shelf.
4 flamming peppers in value cause of the higher price, but overall 5 since nothing compares. At $50 it's not like your paying $150 for them, like some carbon bottle cages you can buy. That's just out of this world nuts. I'll stick to my $10 plastic cateye cages. Any color to match your bike, plastic so its flexible to fit your bottle, and scratch proof.

$35.00 | | Purchased At: | Price Point | | Strengths: | Nicest barends since the Syncros Steerhorns. | | Weaknesses: | Sort of pricey. Apparently the free market is not working to lower the price of this product through competition. | | Bottom Line: | Despite the ridiculous number of bar ends that clamp to the bar and stick way out front (which aren't too popular any more), darn near no one has figured out that bar ends that allow your palms to sit right on the ends of the handlebar are way more comfortable. Seems pretty obvious to me, but the only people to figure this out are Syncros (the 'steerhorns' barends from the late '80s), Singletrack Solutions (neat little cheap plastic barends that weight nothing and work pretty well, all you need), and Cane Creek. The Syncros Steerhorns are so antique that you don't even see them on eBay (mine got so old that I actually wore through the aluminum tubing in the palm area), leaving Cane Creek pretty much the only people making this totally obvious product. They're sort of pricey ($35 compared to like $8 for the 'singletrack solutions'), but have a nice plush rubber coating and (another no-brainer) serve as the outer lockring for lock-on grips. Cane Creek must make a ton of dough on these things -- why hasn't Nashbar come out with a molded plastic knockoff yet? | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

It fits perfectly into my hands. I have riser handlebar but I still like bar ends on them (rider preference). After many miles of rough terrain, these still hold up, in fact not even a dent.
Although I'm not a weight weenie, these are pretty heavy compare to other bar ends, also you have to squeeze these into the end of the handlebar which can damage your handlebar. Also they are too big and takes too much space. These can be $5 cheaper.
Give these 3 chills because they are expensive and 4 chills overall because my problems can be just a preference issue.

I've owned and used both.
Both models offer a superior hand position, balance, and the ability to steer with your palms without using your fingers to grip. If you've never used this type of bar end (with 1/3 below the bar) you should try it: you'll probably never go back. The Cane Creek model is more comfortable, but heavier. The Serfas ALUMINUM model is not quite as comfortable, but it's much lighter and is an excellent value.
If money and weight aren't an issue, the Cane Creek Ergo Controls are really a high quality product. Unfortunately, money doesn't grow on trees, so I'm giving it 3 chilis for value. See my review on the Serfas Stabilizers for my opinion on that product. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

But they're the bomb, and worth the weight and cost. Very comfortable under the hands. And with their flat-ish top surface, my handlebar has become more like a control deck. I get four unique, comfortable hand/arm positions when sitting (great for relieving fatigue), plus super grip and control on those out-of-the-saddle climbs. Totally awesome on those technical, rocky climbs.
The rubber over the aluminum skeleton isn't appreciably worn after six months and about a thousand miles.

I have only used them a very short time but I can honestly say I will never go back to my old bar ends. I was a little leery at first because of the unusual design but my local shop talked me into them. The amount of control you maintain while climbing is amazing (they keep your hands in line with the bar rather than out front) and the riding postion while cruising is very comfortable. I am finding myself out on the ends whenever I don't need worry about grabbing the brakes. I don't know how well they would work with a riser bar. $40.00 | | Purchased At: | speedgoat | | Strengths: | amazing control. you're able to keep power, control and force on the handlebar and the bar end at the same time because the design allows you to keep your hands centered on the ends of the bar(below and above). very very natural positioning. taking jumps and climbing becomes much easier and safer. these bar ends inspire confidence. and aside from the geometry, they're light and the rubber feels great. until the control points offered by this bar end are incorporated into other bar ends, this is hands down the best. | | Weaknesses: | i had to cut some rubber off the ends of my bars to get them to fit...not a big deal | | Similar Products Used: | titecs | | Bike Setup: | klein hardtail xt drivetrain | | Bottom Line: | amazing climbing control, very natural and comfortable feel. if you want more positions for coasting, i'd consider something else (but i'd still buy these). if you bought yr bike to race and climb hills quickly and easily, get em. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$40.00 | | Purchased At: | Malcoms | | Strengths: | Great feel, light, looks great | | Weaknesses: | Can be tough to put on | | Similar Products Used: | Scott AT3 bar, Onza Stogies | | Bike Setup: | Mrazek BOH, Cane Creek wheels & headset, Marzocchi fork, Shimano parts | | Bottom Line: | Great feel, perfect placement. I've used these from Moab to Denver and simply love them. They don't hang on trees, don't get cold when the weather goes sour, very positive grip. I'd recomend these for anyone whose looing for a barend and knows what they're used for. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$40.00 | | Purchased At: | Speedgoat | | Strengths: | Grip and ergo shape. There's no endcaps to come off. | | Weaknesses: | They add an inch to handlebar length. | | Bottom Line: | These are a great value. Rubber coating provides a "sticky' grip with or without gloves, wet or dry. The shape is very confortable and low profile make it possible to use them when you just feel like changing your hand position during a long ride. I've nailed a few trees and they seem durable. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$50.00 | | Purchased At: | Cane Creek | | Strengths: | Comfort, Shape | | Weaknesses: | None | | Similar Products Used: | The standard bar ends | | Bike Setup: | Giant NRS-1 | | Bottom Line: | These are the most comfortable bar ends I've ever used. The rubber is very comfortable. They are designed so that 3/4 of the grip extends forward , while the remaining 1/4 extends behind. You can place your hands comfortably on the bar ends, while having your hand centered on the handlebar. This allows you better control. I use them much more than my other bar ends, because they're so comfortable.
Nice work, Cane Creek!

$35.00 | | Purchased At: | Speedgoat | | Strengths: | Positioning at the end of the bar is perfect - 2/3 in front of the bar, 1/3 behind the bar. Its a good size. Also, the rubber grip is firm, yet comfortable and truly fits the hand like a glove. | | Weaknesses: | none | | Similar Products Used: | The rest | | Bottom Line: | The best barend on the market bar none. Sure its slightly heavier than the average barend, but the weight difference is inconsequential based upon the numerous benefits provided by this design. Its worth the investment. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$40.00 | | Purchased At: | www.speedgoat.com | | Strengths: | comfort, control | | Weaknesses: | none | | Similar Products Used: | control tech | | Bike Setup: | GT STS, Azonic bar, marzocchi Z-1 alloy | | Bottom Line: | Great bar ends. Due to the soft overmold, the comfort is FAR superior to anything else out there. As others have pointed out, having 1/4 of it project behind the handlebar is a huge enhancement in control, especially when just cruising. Also, the rubber overmold really improves grip. I would have said that price is a weakness, but in my job I've dealt with rubber/kraton overmolded on aluminum, and I know how much these processes cost: given that, the price is reasonable. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$50.00 | | Purchased At: | lbs | | Strengths: | grip, placing | | Weaknesses: | price | | Similar Products Used: | conventional alu bar-ends | | Bike Setup: | Klein Attitude Comp 2000, size L, mostly stock | | Bottom Line: | Way better than normal bar-ends. Its shape means it fits your hand, and the placing means your hands are still parallel to the steering bar. It gives you more control, facilitates log-jumping, and makes your hand's position more comfortable. Contrary to my first impression, it even allows subtle changes of position, reducing upper arm (especially triceps) fatigue. They're not cheap, but absolutely worth it. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$50.00 | | Purchased At: | LBS | | Strengths: | Comfort Design | | Weaknesses: | Price | | Similar Products Used: | All kinds of metal products. | | Bike Setup: | Trek Fuel 80. | | Bottom Line: | These are by far the most comfortable bar ends I've tried. First, the ergo-shaped rubber is very comfortable to use, even when cruising for long periods. Second, they are designed so that about 3/4 of the grip extends forward of the handlebar, while the remaining 1/4 extends behind. What this does is allow you to rest your hands comfortably on the bar ends, while still having your palm centered on the handlebar, giving greater control. Think about it. How many times have you been just crusing along with your palms resting on the ends of the handlebars? I do it all the time because it's just comfortable. Now I can do it with even more comfort and control. Well done Cane Creek, 5 chilis! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$25.00 | | Purchased At: | Atlanta Cycling | | Strengths: | - The most comfortable bar-ends i've used. - Extremely Grippy, in a nice comfortable way - Looks cool, and fits my hand really nicely | | Weaknesses: | - A little on the heavy side - Considered expensive, but i work at the bike store i bought them at so i didnt think so....plus they're worth the normal price anyway | | Similar Products Used: | Profile Boxers, ONZA, Serfas Ergo-things (eww), | | Bike Setup: | Fisher Joshua F3, CT2 bar (barends work fine with them, no crimpage), XT, LX FD, Bontrager Race wheels | | Bottom Line: | These bar-ends have an excellent feel to them, when you're climbing they give you an awesome grip to better do it, they're also really comfortable just cruising and when you're gliding, just resting your hand between the grip and barend. They're said to be heavy, but they're only about 60g heavier than the normal/average ones, but they're 100% better than the average bar-end so its all worth it in the end, plus you sweat off about 60g in about 10 minutes if you're riding anyway. They're really not that expensive retail (about 45 bucks) definately worth the investment, Definately look at these as a good option, if you're looking for good, comfortable, and effective bar-ends
Forget the weight and price, its worth it. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$50.00 | | Purchased At: | Cane Creek | | Strengths: | Comfortable shape, firm rubberized grip, well made | | Weaknesses: | None | | Similar Products Used: | Onza's | | Bike Setup: | Porsche | | Bottom Line: | I don't wear gloves and found that my hands were always slipping off the Onza's during climbs. Temperatures in Hong Kong are between 28 -30 C right now and very humid so my arms and hands sweat a lot. The Cane Creeks allow me to maintain a good grip. I don't know whether the Ergo Controls are made using a dual density rubber compound as I originally read on the Cane Creek website. This had been deleted from the description on the packaging by a marker pen. Even so, they are a fine product and worth trying. I would not use a conventional bar end again after using these. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
