Strengths: Real consumer friendly price, reliable in all conditions, consistent breaking power, easy maintenance, nice colours.
Weaknesses: None, I think.
These brakes are a truly work horse and you get it for a stunning competitive price, just as well the wear parts (pads, discs...). What I like most: it works all along, whatever you are doing in wet or dry. Braking power and modulation are consistent and the maintenance is so easy. As I think it´s perfect for XC purposes. The weight is ok, comparable to the new Shimano XT 785 and perhaps this is the reason for it´s long term reliability. By the way: Tektro´s pads for the Auriga Pro are excellent. Highly recommended!
As stated in the title, I have a Tektro Auriga Pro (160mm) hydraulic brake system with stock rotors on a Surly Karate Monkey (2013).
The brake pads contact the rotor flush to the outer edge, and yet the pads overhang the inner contact area by about 3mm.

XC only, mostly dry conditions. Any advice for which pads to upgrade to? I've been told that the stock pads are pretty bad, and I have a new bike coming with the Tektro Auriga Pro + stock pads coming in a week.

I picked up a Rockhopper SL Base from my LBS a short while ago and have had a chance to put some mileage on. While the bike as a whole is fantastic the brakes are causing me a bit of trouble.
