Strengths:    Light, power and modulation good, ergonomics good, titanium hardware, mineral oil works well into the -F temperatures now, etc.

Weaknesses:    Expensive, short brake levers may not work with all controls/grips.

Bottom Line:
These are the "race" version, not the trail with the fins. Virtually identical with the M9000, very slight difference, weight is almost exactly the same, price is a little cheaper than M9000. Great so far, been using for almost two weeks. Carbon blade lever is nice to reduce heat transmission in the winter. Modulation and power are great, but this also isn't a servo-wave XT on a 200mm rotor. Running on a 180 Ashima lightweight rotor and power is easy to control and plentiful. Seems good so far, don't expect any issues based on my XTs. Probably ridden in -10 to -15 so far and they did just fine.

New Shimano XTR Race Brakes M987

Hi, Does anyone have experience with these? I'm considering to make the switch from Trail Brakes to these Race Brakes. How do they hold up on burly technical trails? Also, I'm 95lbs. Thanks in advance!Read More »
