Offer varying levels of heat control from an insulated piston (glass fiber phenolic) and insulated pad coating. The XTR M9000 Race brake system has race-tuned power and overall lighter weight thanks to a magnesium caliper and master cylinder as well as a carbon lever blade.

Strengths:    Lightweight, good stopping power for lightweight brakes (I'm running 160mm Ashima rotors)

Weaknesses:    Expensive. There is no "free stroke" adjustment, only lever adjustment. Not keen on the new clamp style, flexy and my seatpost dropper no longer fits as close to the shifter like it did before

Bottom Line:   
NOTE: The photo they currently show for the M9000 RACE is incorrect.

My main complaint is there is no free stroke adjustment so you lose about 25% or more movement on the lever before it even begins to engage . I even "power bled" these brakes hoping to tighten up - no dice.

My last generation XT's feel better than these. VERY dissapointed in Shimano for not addressing the free stroke issues (on the XT's as well)
