Strengths: Excellent Quality + Function + Style + Power + Modulation + Looks + Adjustments (Lever Reach + FCS) = No frustration and fun rides.Weaknesses: Not too fond of gold anodized hardware. Price.Bottom Line: Excellent brake. Good power. Nice feel and control with modulation. Good Looks. Reliable. Confident on downhills. Consistency. Able to get good price at FortTree Bikes for $244 a pair with price match with No Tax and Free Shipping. Had to buy rotors separately. Rotors look cool. No annoying noise, other than mild pad/rotor rubbing during initial break in period but disappeared (as was stated in instruction booklet).
These are expensive, but you get what you pay for these days. I was tired of dealing with Avid Brake Problems, over and over again. I rather spend the extra $ to get something that works, looks good, dependable, and reliable.
These brakes are Italian designed, engineered and manufactured. There is just something about Italian Design/Made products in general that are almost always good in terms of quality, design, looks, function and performance, but expensive.
If your searching for disc brakes consider Formula and or Shimano Disc Brakes - chances are better you will get a quality product at a higher price but less likely hood dealing with problems.
Favorite Trail: Any Single Track
Duration Product Used: Less than 1 month
Price Paid:
$244.00
Purchased At: TreeFort Bikes
Similar Products Used: Avid Ultimate and 2 pairs of Avid Elixir CR: leaks fluid + not very reliable + frequent bleeds + inconsistent performance + loud annoying turkey gobble noise + vibration issues resonates throughout the bike frame + CPS bolts do nothing (what a joke of engineering) = a lot frustration, wasted time, money and energy with fixing/maintenance, unhappy rides.
Hayes El Camino - weak power, pain to bleed.
Shimano XT dual control Hydraulic/shifter combo - not very powerful, good modulation, reliable, consistent performance.

Strengths: Lightness, Breaking Power, Modulation, Adjustments (2011) Cool Looking, does not Reheat at all.Weaknesses: Price (if U have to pay for it)Bottom Line: I have the Formula The One 2011, that features as alternative kit the FCS Modulation adjustment, feature that makes a Big difference respect the MY10 version for few bucks more. Simply the Best Brakes I ever had! Nothing comes close Modulation is perfect, breaks as everybody would dream, with the 220 mm rotor as I have, when U use all it power gives U the impression that will snap the headtube with fork and all what is there included, the brake is so well designed that seems that heat will never can stay on the disc, even when U are braking for long periods.
Simply Best Brake that money can get. Expensive But well worth it!

Strengths: PowerfullWeaknesses: Did not find any serious.
Shorter brake lever than in my previous avid ultimate
Lack of modulation adjusmtentBottom Line: This brakes are much better and stronger than the Avid Juicy Ultimate.
even after 30 minutes downhill they did not overheated as it happen to my previous brakes.
The lever is shorter so had to change to Sram Triggers. I also miss some modulation adjustment (heard should come in 2011)
Will post a new review is September after coming back from Garda
