Strengths:    Lever feel and adjustability. 1 finger braking power.

Weaknesses:    Time and effort to get set up properly. Fiddly & flimsy cotter pin pad-retention system. Non-split 1-piece lever mounting.

Bottom Line:
These brakes came standard on my Trek Farley 5. After following the recommended break-in procedure, they started to howl and judder badly after the first two rides. I removed & deglazed the pads with a light sanding, carefully chamfering the leading edges of the pads, and applied a light smear of copper grease to the back of the pads. I also re-set the calipers on their posts and checked the rotors for true & bolt tension prior to cleaning them with contact cleaner. 100% better but after a bad run with Avid Elixirs on a previous ride, will be avoiding this manufacturer in favour of Shimano or Magura in future.

Strengths:    simple and effective

Weaknesses:    nothing

Bottom Line:
tried to replace the avid mechanical mod. BB5, in the past I have had other elixir and confirm problems with frequent bleed and little tolerance between discs and pads.
I was really surprised at how well they work, powerful and adaptable at the right point, and I can say that the tolerance between disc and pads is correct to work well
