Mine have only made noise on several occasions, then I would clean the rim surface with alcohol and paper towel.....seems to work. Keep your rims surfaces clean, if needed do it daily/hourly. | | Weaknesses: | I agree with others hear, they are "rim killers". When the metal gets into the brake pad, man, it sends chills up my spine (my poor mavic517 rims !). Sometimes I get off the bike and manually clean the rims. Most of the time, and I have found that this works, lightly apply pressure to the brakes, lightly, hold this position for a while, release, and do it again, and one more time if necessary. This works for me and gets the shavings off the rims and pads...try it. | | Similar Products Used: | campy pads ?? not sure if these are simular | | Bike Setup: | doesn't matter | | Bottom Line: | When these pads "wear out" (or maybe sooner), I will not purchase these pads again.........I'm concerned about what they are/could be doing to my rims. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Try lubing once in a while. It's good for you, it's good for her. And replace your too-long cables once a year at the very minimum. Keep your cables as short as possible, use no lube, keep them clean and your brakes will feel like little triple beam balances (precise).
Your pads are not the problem. Almost all quality pads will stop you lickity split if you take the time to treat your brake system right and give it the love it needs.
You will go faster if you can stop more quickly.

I had this squeal for the longest time and tried everything to get rid of it. Tried toe settings, scuffing the rims and pads, tried KoolStop pads...nothing worked. Took a chance and tried ceramic pads thinking that all the pads I've tried had a "too-soft" rubber compound that's not compatible with the anodized brake surface on my rims. Happy to say that the brakes squeal no more! I guess the harder rubber doesn't flex as much and cancels out the vibrations that caused the squeal. Anyway, I'll have to give these pads good marks because they finally stopped the squeal. If anybody has brake squeal give these pads (or any ceramic pad) a try before going nuts! Probably last a lot longer, too. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

But Hell do they stop you FAST! These coupled with a good set of machined wall rims and you have a lot of stopping power. (oh yes, XTR v-brakes help too)
But I look at it this way - nothing lasts forever, things wear out. The rim is like the disc brake on a car, it gets worn away by the pad, it is this wearing that causes friction and this friction that makes the wheel stop turning.
The way some describe the abrasiveness of them you think they're akin to rubbing your rims on granite. It's not. Sure some wear will occur, but I give my rims a life expectancy of 2 years, then hell I'll just buy new rims.
Sure they may not last as long as those solid blocks black substance that come with Deore or theyre expensive. I give them a life expetancy of about 12 months, thats enough for me. At under $1us a month, yeh I can handle that.
The way I see if, if you're going to use race quality gear, you have to expect shorter life & higher wear, its the nature of things (please done flame me :) )

XTR pads work well in the dry.. like you all didn't already know that! My experience has been that they last about 8-10 rides when the weather turns wet and muddy. I bought a pair last month and I had to go out and replace them after 8 rides. Totally catches me off guard when just last summer I used one pair of pads for the entire season...and that was 3 rides a week! Not impressed at all. | Overall Rating: |

I don't know why all you people are complaining. They might sqeal but this is the hardest compound to make them last longer. WTB and Kool stop are softer and don't last half as long. With the cartridge pads of course they will wear down quicker, but the XTR's last the longest! I have tried them all! | Overall Rating: |

have XTR V-pads on the front. They do not have the stopping bite of my koolstops (on the rear). in dry weather they are ok, and give nice feel to the braking. on the downside, very much more expensive than the other pads available but still much better than the shitty Tiogas pads which squeak, squeal, and cannot be adjusted properly on my Tektro Vs. | Overall Rating: |

I'm using the XTR V-brake pads, the one that can be inserted into the brake holders. I don't like these much. They wear quickly. Performance decreases a lot when the pad gets wet and I find that it even squeals sometimes when it is wet. I've mounted them on a XT V-brake system. The results are average at best. Under conditions where greater braking forces are needed such as quick downhill speeds, these pads (in combination with XT V-brakes by Shimano) dont cut it. The braking feel is mediocre as well. | Overall Rating: |

XTR pads suck. however the ones pictured aren't that bad,I think most people now refer to the cartidge type which are good in dry, shit in the wet, wear out fast, and are to dam dear.Whoa they said I have to do 50 words. I went to give them a O rating but there isn't one. | Overall Rating: |

These stop excellently when you test them out on the sidewalk after you install them. Then when you go out and hit the trails for about 25-30 miles of good riding you wonder where the braking power has gone. Then you realize that it melted away with the pads. Then you run out and get some WTB duals and slap em on. | Overall Rating: |

My XTR V-brake pads are pretty nice. From my experience they work pretty close to the same whether they are dry as a bone or dripping with muddy slop. The only problem with them is they don't last very long. This is a fair tradeoff since the softer compound gives you better feel when braking. I replaced them when they wore out with the XTR pads for extreme conditions and since they are thicker they will obviously last longer. | Overall Rating: |

After an epic search for a pair of suitable pads that allow my XTR-V brakes to bite properly on my MAVIC Crossmax front i finnaly found these - XTR-V for ceramic by Shimano - they work ok, much better than the previous KoolStop i had, but i must say they are a RIP-OFF (more than double the price of Kool´s), apparently because they are only sold (the pads) already mounted on the shoes. I don´t need no f.. brake shoes, only the ceramic pads, so Shimano stop ripping us off our dosh and give us those pads alone. On the tech part they seem to work ok, and they are not noisy. Rating : 4 on the bike, 0 on the shop.

these pads had to be changed after a couple of dry summer months. thats six times more than the previous XT pads i had during summer and snowy winter months. XTR pads cost more, wear out earlier. don't consider that an upgrade of equipment. though, V brakes give the breaking power needed, rubber souls!! | Overall Rating: |

These are the same as XT pads are'nt they? Anyway, thes pads are awesome in dry weather!! They do not wear out!! But wait... These are the worst wet weather pads in the WORLD!!! Not like there is much choice other than ceramic ones but... After 2 hours of mud riding with lots of braking... it is time for some new pads buddy! P.S. I am talking about XTR V-brake pads!!

I got these for my V-brakes. They work really well when the area is clean and dry. They are terriable for wet weather or muddy conditions. I think I'll rip off a set of Razorblades from the store when I get my new fork. | Overall Rating: |

These brake pads are THE best money can buy. You can't go wrong with 'em. I used to have LX brakepads, but they wore out. When I bought these and tried them, I was blown away. GET THEM! THEY ROCK! | Overall Rating: |

I installed these on my Trek 8000, I was pretty pleased with these until I got them out onto the wet, muddy trails. After about 5 minutes of riding, these pads worked about as well as two sticks of butter. They work fine after they've had the mud cleaned off and dried up a little. I know lots of people like them but I think they suck. | Overall Rating: |

The shimano XTR-pads is good and and works perfectly with a mavic sub rim, but if real brakingpower is needed, you should trie the XTR V-BRAKE. | Overall Rating: |

Maybe these pads work well with polished rim.But when I used these pads with Mavic UBcontrol rim or ceramic rim,I didn't like these pads.Because when I rode my bike slowly they worked a little better, but when I rode it fast (when I appered DH race) they worked little. These pads work well in wet condition. But when I used these pads in wet condition, they decreased soon.
I used another type XTR pads(for ceramic rim only type).I didn't like them. When I used them with ceramic rim, they worked little. | Overall Rating: |

These brakes are a step up for Shimano. I've always swapped out the stock Shimano pads for Koolstops, but with these, I left them on. They worked well, and are longer for increased surface area. Since they came with the XTR cant's that I bought, and they worked well out of the box, I didn't swap them out. The modulation was good and durability was good as well. I wouldn't buy these pads as replacements though. I'd go get some koolstops when these wore out. | Overall Rating: |

95 model.
These pads are long and hard to adjust. The compound seems hard so they don't seem to modulate to well. They're expensive too! There's better pads at a third of the cost.
