Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $5.00
Purchased At:http://store.icycles
Strengths:Inexpensive; good stopping power
Weaknesses:Brake squeal/chatter
Similar Products Used:Koolstop Thinline, stock brake pads
Bottom Line:I have a REALLY hard time finding brake pads that do not squeal and/or chatter on my CX bike with v-style brakes. I tried the yellow Fibrax pads and found them to be "sticky" which made for good braking but this stickiness also resulted in a fair amount of brake chatter. I've certainly tried worse pads but the best pads I have found so far are the Koolstop Thinline pads. However, I have some Koolstop Tectonic pads on order and am hoping that will finally eliminate the squeal and chatter.

Strengths:just plain awesome. my old brakes were rubbish- as soon as they got damp, braking became postiviely dangerous. switched to these, and got the shock of my life. if you want to do serious braking with these, make sure you're hanging as far back off the saddle as you can.
Weaknesses:none
Bike Setup:pretty much stock trek 4500 (rock shox judy tt forks) and shimano power modulators (if you dont have em, get em. i took them off my old bike to put them on my current bike and will probably keep them forever. seriously)
Bottom Line:if you need some brakes that work, get these. the only difference between the dry and the wet is that in the wet i have to be careful not to do a skid w/ the font wheel.

Duration Product Used:2 Years
Strengths:They are better than most in the wet
Weaknesses:Durability not very good, but I bought them in bulk at the time and they were real cheap
Similar Products Used:Shimano LX pads, Kool Stop pads (the best), Avid Rim Wrangler Pads
Bike Setup:Hardtail w.Rock Shox Mag 21, Shimano XT comp., Shimano LX V brakes, Ritchey rims
Bottom Line:I got these because they had a good reputation in the wet and I needed something that would last more than one rainy afternoon when I was a bicycle courier. For that they didnt dissapoint, work well in the wet conditions. Durability was a problem, found I had to replace these often, even in dry conditions.

At retail these are expensive and not worth it, I would get kool stops, much better value

Date Reviewed: May 5, 2003
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $8.00
Purchased At:LBS
Strengths:Great braking capability wet or dry. Especially nice for winter wet riding in Northwest Area. Wear about twice as long as most others in wet muddy conditions.
Weaknesses:Mfr. Too cheap to include new pins with cassete pads.
Similar Products Used:Koolstop, Avid, Shimano, All kinds
Bike Setup:Use on a couple of different XC hardtails.
Bottom Line:These are really nice pads. Changed out one bike to mechanical Avid brakes and didn't see much improvement in braking capability. Really wish the manufacturer would include new pins with cassette pads. I keep buying them because I haven't found a better wearing and braking pad to date. If you want quick stops and fairly good wear these are good pads for any rim brake fan.

Price Paid: $7.00
Purchased At:Simon's Bike Shop
Strengths:Good grip, No noise
Weaknesses:Wear too fast
Similar Products Used:shimano, Eagle
Bike Setup:Rocky hard tail,
Bottom Line:These brake pads cost me a set of rims. I used them twice and on my third ride the pads wore down to the metal plate and the rest goes with out saying. The pads latest me approx. 2.5 hrs. What a joke, my previous pads lasted 10-15 times as long.

Strengths:Good stopping power.
Weaknesses:Steel plate began rubbing on rims before blocks were worn off.
Glazed over fairly quickly.
Similar Products Used:Shimano, Koolstop
Bottom Line:These were very good brake pads. They had good grab for doing trials and worked well when wet. No squeaking problems here. I was very pissed off to find out that the metal plate was wearing through before the blocks on the pad were worn flat. It almost cost me a new rim. They also glaze over fairly easily, but still provide better stopping power than most. Don't buy these if you run your brake pads down to the wear limit, it may cost you a set of rims.

Favorite Trail:Pallettes and other trialsy stuff
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $10.00
Purchased At:Halfords or Prospect Autspares
Strengths:Reliable, good grip, longer lasting than most.
Very cheap.
Weaknesses:When new they can squeel considerably but a bit of riding or sandpaper can sort out that problem.
Pad compound can sometimes(rarely though,)come loose from the fixing bolt.
Similar Products Used:Textro V-Brake pads, Giant(own make)pads.
Bike Setup:Jamis Durango SX (Set up for Trials)
Bottom Line:I've always used Fibrax V brake pads on my rear V since I have ever had V's. Kick ass pads that last. Grip can decline in some weather conditions but they are better than most.
Buy Planet X sticky pads (V brake version) if you can, but these are a must if you can't.
...Reliable...

Strengths:don't squeal, not bad grip
Weaknesses:the cartridge pads are excellent, good bite and don't squeal. the normal pads are also good but don't have such a definate bite to them so not as good for trials.
Similar Products Used:shimano pads
Bike Setup:stx-rc brakes and levers on to regular alloys
Bottom Line:i haven't found any brake pads better but more expensive than others.

Strengths:Great power delivered in all weather conditions, quite cheap. long lasting.
Weaknesses:Slightly soggy feeling on the brake levers, would work better if they manufactured them with a slightly smaller profile pads, or you can do this yourself with a knife.
Similar Products Used:Shimano m system-not as good, tektro-not bad, fibrax cartridge better low profile and a long time saving in money.
Bike Setup:pro max levers and deore v-brakes against wtb speed master rims
Bottom Line:Good brakes, won't find better for money, if you can buy the lower profile cartridge pads. Just don't but shimano they squeek against most rims!

Weaknesses:gone in one muddy ride, when I put them on, they gave my brakes a squishy feel, so I toed them in less...helped, but still not good

Favorite Trail:The one I've yet to find
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Purchased At:Halfords!
Strengths:I have tried many types of brake pads, including XTR ceramic specific pads at extortionate prices. I tried these pads on advice given to me, not expecting miracles for the small cost, I have been amazed at their stopping power, smooth delivery and their longevity.
Weaknesses:None that I have found!
Similar Products Used:You name it, I tried it.
Bike Setup:Litespeed Ti Tanasi, XTR with Rolf Propel wheelset with ceramic rims.
Bottom Line:I don't know if these work as well with standard rims, but as they are not made for ceramics, I would not hesitate to reccommend them.

Strengths:Good braking in all conditions
Weaknesses:front brake squeaks a bit
Similar Products Used:Shimano
Bike Setup:XT levers, XTR parallel brakes
Bottom Line:Good brake pads with the XTR brakes. Rear brake has no problems, front still has a slight squeak even after several attempts at toe in adjustment, angle to wheel etc. but who really cares, compared to some it's dead silence.

Strengths:good stoping power
cheap
came with free set of replacement pads
Weaknesses:Imposible to adjust out of pack
Similar Products Used:shimano pads - leave black stuff everywhere
Bike Setup:Shimano DX levers and V Brakes
Bottom Line:Keep the cones etc of your old pads as the ones that come with these pads are rouned and do not allow adjusting of the pade as they will only go straight as you tighten up, swaping the parts with original pads worked well.

Vastly improved braking power and look good

Weaknesses:NONE
Similar Products Used:Dia-compe, Pro Star
Bike Setup:99 Schwinn Powermatic
Bottom Line:When I bought my BMX my back brake(a 990 look-a-like)worked well but my front brake(a crappy Dia-Compe Bulldog) didn't grab It sucked so bad it wouldn't slow you down at all I tried everything adjusting the brake, filed the pads, cleaned my rim so I took it to my shop and they put a teflon cable in a little difference but not much so I brought it in again and they put these Fibrax pads on for free no my crappy brakes stop on a dime and I can ectually do endos I'm talking that my brake power went up atleast 5x these pads are good cause theyll mount on U, V, Caliper and cantilever brakes and they grab so good get em today.

Shape like the rim
Weaknesses:

Submitted by Richard Barton a Cross-Country Rider from Stirling, Scotland
Date Reviewed: November 25, 1999
Duration Product Used:
less than 1 month
Strengths:
Thicker than the standard Shimano v-brake pad - should last longer!
Feels very solid on the brake lever but has a small lip at the trailing edge to wipe away most of the mud.
You get a spare set of pads (and holders!)
Weaknesses:
Price, although saying that, you do get a full set for under a tenner.
Similar Products Used:
Shimano pads, Aztec pads, Koolstop pads
Bike Setup:
21 Orange P7 with Pace RC-36 forks and XTR Vees with XT running kit
Bottom Line:Good stopping power when new and for the price a bargain! If you run XT/XTR vees then you get a spare set of pads and holder for the money, if your not using replacable pads then you get a spare set of pads for the holder. As the pads are thicker than other companies pads, they should last longer - mine came in red with black pads installed in the holders - go well with my bike's logo!
