Mavic 819 rims. | | Bottom Line: | I see a lot of negative reviews on these but for my set up they have proved to be the best set up.
These just work without the noise. The logics seemed to loose some power compared to the Avids WR2 but at least they too were quite. I tried teh Cool Stop MTB Salmon pads and although they stop better than anything they also have an tendency to squeal, especially on a dry hot day with an extended period of decending. Same with the Thin line red but to a lesser extent than the Salmons.
The Avids don't seem to be as sticky as the cool stops but I never got the squealing issue with the Avids. When I first got my SD7's with the WR2 pads I remember thinking they worked about as good as the XTR Hydro Discs (when dry)on one of my other rides. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

The pads emit insane amounts of squeal on my rims. Changed & put on some toe out & were bearable for 2 stops, then back to insane levels.
I've used 5 or so other compounds from other manufacturers & nothing like this has happened before.

After 1 wet and 1 dry ride on a sandy trail I had to take the emery paper to my brand new rims and pick out little shards of rim from the pads. They didnt work any better then the aztec pads i had on my old bike, even though they were on my SD SL's. They felt no better then the old bike(which should not be the case, as the old bike as a middle of the road schwinn that i bought like 5 years ago).
I took the off after 2 rides, and one ride was a flat rails to trails trail with almost no braking. But they still managed to mess up my rim a bit DUE TO THE PEICE OF STINKING METAL IN THE PAD!!!!!! If you get avid SD's change the pad before you ride. The braking preformance of you brakes will suffer(your brakes are only as good as your pad, and these pads just dont hack it), and possibly your rim too. I actually just put some schimano pads in, and in the little(like a trip across my basment) they felt better and no horible noise. But recently I discovered that my WTB Dual Compound (you know, with the "cleaning" orange edge) were scraping away my rim sidewalls like sandpaper, so I put these on. Not a good switch. I'll bet my stopping distance increased by a third.
