Date Reviewed: May 25, 2007
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $20.00
Purchased At:Planet Bike
Strengths:More initial bite than the "standard" b4 sintered bronze pads. Braking effort substantially reduced. Can't comment about life.
Weaknesses:Not quite as smooth as the b4 compound. Strangely enough, the c4 compound polishes the rotor more quickly.
Sensitive to moisture and dirt. Braking effort increases when brakes are wet. Slightly noisier (not the Avid howl) but more like a hiss.
Similar Products Used:Avid B4 sintered metal "standard" pad.
Bike Setup:Specialized FSR Elite converted full XTR.
Bottom Line:Theres seems to be confusion over what compund is c4 or b4. I'm reviewing the newer pads which I believe Avid markets as "organic" or c4 as opposed to "standard."

Braking effort is greatly reduced at the slight expense of modulation and smoothness.

My review is based on back to back testing of the b4 vs c4, both correctly bedded prior to test.

Favorite Trail:Shafaq 3
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Purchased At:on the brakes
Strengths:Last long - very good friction material - has no problem with heating up
Weaknesses:wear speeds up a little in muddy trails.
Similar Products Used:Jagwire
Bike Setup:Kona Stinky
Bottom Line:They work great with Avidd BB7s in all conditions but expect a little wear in mud. Dont worry about replacing you would need many tire replacments before its time for new pads.

Date Reviewed: April 2, 2006
Favorite Trail:flume in Tahoe
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $1.00
Purchased At:oem avid mech, purch on ebay
Strengths:The avid c4 Pad came oem and lasted almost 1.5yrs and could still probably get another summer out of them rideing 2-3 days wk. I was cleaning my brakes and noticed about 70% wear towards the corners. 50% everywhere else.
Not sure why no posts. Although I have no other frame of
ref, the clearly out perform the
Weaknesses:some un even where, but that' from the caliper.
Similar Products Used:only disc product used.
Bike Setup:Jamis XC Pro w/Avid mech bla bla bla
Bottom Line:I have no other frame of ref but the performance far exceeds
rim breaks. After 1.5ys 2-3days wk, started getting
squeeking but only after massive water crossing and mud
in So Cal rainy season...JPL..+ mud rides.
