Strength:

Shimano quality & durability levers that lasted for years on my bike.

Weakness:

Screw head got stripped when replacing the stock GT (flat/xc) bar for a Pazzaz DH wiser bar with brace.

These brake levers did a good job on my 1996 GT Ricochet from the time I got it in mid Oct.1996 to mid June 2004.
Bottom Line: While I had them they were great and worked flawlessly.

Strength:

Low price
Simple, no-gimmick operation

Weakness:

None found yet

The rattling and wobbling from the stock levers drove me nuts so I drove 5 minutes to the closest of 5 Lubbock bike shops and spent 15 of the smartest dollars I've spent. The Alivio lever (M420) is aluminum all over, is light, stiff, quiet, and is shaped right. If you purchase a sub-$500 bike, please consider swapping the '80s BMX levers for a pair of these.

Strength:

weight, price, improved braking power, looks.

Weakness:

none.

these are great brake levers they improved my braking power by far. they are a great product. buy these if you want to improve your braking power for not much price.
I'm 11 and my stock kids brake levers gave me very little braking power I couldn't stop that well all the time as soon as I got these I could stop anywhere I wanted and control my speed with one finger.

Strength:

The strength of this product is that it is easy and simple, yet very durable and strong.
It is also very cheap and it has a very good grip.

Weakness:

Nothing I can think of.

The Shimano Alivio brake levers is a very good alternative to the much more expensive XT or XTR levers.

I use these levers with LX vees. These levers rock. They are less bulky than LX yet they're far less expensive than XT. I really like them and with the reach adjuster they can fit about anybody's hands. Plus they work fine with GripShift. The only bad thing is that they rattle ever so slightly on bumpy downhills.

Strength:

It works like $1.00 brake.

Weakness:

Where do I start? Plastic junk!

Don't buy it! If it's on your stock bike, junk it and upgrade. It's a sad excuse for brake and lever. Shimano stay with manufacturing upper ends.
