Submitted by txmountainbiker a Racer from Salt Lake City, Utah, USA

Date Reviewed: April 23, 2009

Strengths:    Accelerates and climbs very well (from what I could tell in the short time I was actually able to ride it). Awesome looking.

Weaknesses:    Weak rear triangle!!! A bit heavy compared to other bikes in the same price range.

Bottom Line:
This review is for the ’09 X Exogrid. The carbon fiber seat stays snapped like little twigs after only about 20 miles on the bike. I was out on my second ride and had stopped for a moment before climbing a short steep section of the trail. When I was ready to get moving again, I pushed down on the pedal and heard a “snap”…I looked down and saw that both of the carbon fiber seat stays had broken at the bottom, near the aluminum brackets. Keep in mind that this was not the result of hucking off of a 4’ drop (or even a 1’ drop for that matter). This occurred from a simple push of the pedal after only about 20 miles of total riding. I’m a 160 lb rider and didn’t even have 5 lbs of accessories at the time so I know the bike wasn't overloaded (bike weighs 24.5 lbs by the way). We’ll see how Titus handles this but I’d have to say that I’m extremely disappointed after dropping some serious coin for this bike! Please don’t think I’m just out bashing Titus because I have an ’08 Motolite Ti and I love the bike. It has over 1,000 miles on it and I haven’t had one bit of trouble with the frame.

Anybody try Ti-springs.com for a titanium spring? (x-post from Shocks and Suspension)

Are they a stand-up company? They have a pretty good deal for pre-orders shipping early May ($166 with free shipping), but I'm wondering if anyone's tried one and if their 36.5mm I.D. spring fits a DHX rc4 w/o spacers or adapters like I needed for the Obtanium spring on my Pushed DHX 5 that's on an ... Linkless Titus Racer-X Ti - What Year?

Hi all, I bought a linkless Titus Racer-X Ti through craigslist and was wondering what year it is, as it has a 2005 Marzocchi Marathon SL fork, a 2004 Fox Float RL shock, and Hayes El Camino brakes. Originally, it had rim brakes owing to the wear on the rims. I can't find any serial number on the fr ... Read More »

Linkless Titus Racer-X Ti - What year?

Alright, so I bought a linkless Titus Racer-X Ti secondhand off of Craigslist as my first bike, somewhat impulsively, only to find out now that it really isn't the right bike for me. I'm 6'0" and in its current setup, it's too tall, plus I'd rather have something that I can ride around town more com ... Read More »

Need a new fork for 22" 29er Ti frame with 1.5" x 1.125" tapered steer tube

Looking for recommendations. Was using a Rock Shox Reba RLT Dual Air 29" 100mm 9mm QR Fork nontaper with adapter. Put over 5k miles on it until failure. I use SPINERGY XYCLONE DISC 29ER PBO WHEEL SET. I Have not been in market for a while for a new shock and just wanted some recommendations on wh ... Read More »

Resurrected Racer X Ti

Hi all, just finished putting this together, crack in the ti front triangle needed surgery/repair, chain stay was destroyed, so I purhcased a new one (updated stronger "yoke") from the "new" Titus people. I'll post up a setup post on it later. Main bits; Fox RLC pushed, Fox RP 23 Pushed, XT 1 ... Read More »
