Strengths:Tough, fairly light, comfortable. Full up custom build, it works great.
Weaknesses:Price, even though mine was cheaper than most, it was new, just a 06 model.
The creaking sound while under hard pedaling, I think its the water bottle bracket mount holes, there are inserts inside I believe are rubbing the inside of the frame when the bottom tube flexes under stress, it drives me nuts. The cables running under the top tube make a lot of noise, solved with zip ties, problem resolved.

Bottom Line:Due to the cost of this bike I spent a lot of time assessing and testing almost every alternative before settling on this bike. After over 1 year of riding I am not disappointed. It is not quite as light and razor sharp as dedicated top end cross country racers like the Trek Top Fuel 9.8, and the NRS Air but the bike is nearly 95% as worthy and has the added satisfaction and peace of mind of being strong enough to take the punishment of consistent daily rides AND race it on the weekend. Fit and finish are really something to behold and I could find absolutely no flaws with the welding or very attractive anodized finish. I had the frame professionally prepped and then enjoyed assembling the bike myself. One of the biggest problems I had buying the bike was deciding on the frame size. I was getting the bike online due to the scarcity of dealers near me. I am 5'10" tall and weigh 190lbs. So basically it put me onto the point where you could pick a medium or large. Ultimately I picked the large frame and it has been fine. I would have fit on a medium too but just would have needed a lay-back seat post. But for a bike of this caliber I would have expected more assistance in the sizing department from the manufacturer.
The bike really does perform as advertised and is very efficient in the pedaling department. There is no noticeable bio-pacing or bobbing and you can keep the hammer down going over just about anything. It is a very good climber and will propel you well without ever needing to leave the saddle. But would make one quick note in regards to the Fox RP 23. The Pro Pedal was set to soft from the factory for this frame. So basically there was very little difference between the Pro Pedal mode and the open mode. Later, I had the shock reworked so that pro pedal at the hardest setting is nearly lock out. This is VERY helpful if your ride includes sustained climbs of 15 minutes or longer and want to stand up during the climb, which is just my preference.
Where the bike really comes into it's own is when the terrain gets a bit choppy. This bike beckons you to stay at full speed and let the suspension do the work. I find myself taking less than the most efficient line just to let the bike dazzle me! I would not go so far as to say that the bike would survive continuous 4 to 5ft drop-ins, but it is tough and will not let you down over challenging terrain. Just point, keep the speed up, and let the bike do the work. It will put a smile on your face. Handling is excellent for the bike that it is but as mentioned is not quite as razor sharp as dedicated cross country racers. This is really just nit picking, it is still a blast to go through a sit of tight switchbacks. For me, this is the perfect 1 bike. If you could afford to drop the extra cash for weekday trainer and a top of the line weekend racer, so be it. But if you have to have just 1 bike, then look no further. It climbs great, allows you to keep speed over just about anything, has a build quality that is borderline artwork, is made in the USA, and is really just a pleasure to ride.

Bottom Line:This bike really climbs well. Descends as well as my trek fuel ex 8. I demo'd this bike and several others, before purchasing it. Certain portions of the uphill trails that I have a hard time doing with the trek I can do with the epiphany which is really quite amazing.

I know they say that its supposed to be the one bike for everything, but I feel like this bike is more x country than all mountain, and its strength is in climbing, while the downhill is good its nothing special.

One bad thing to note after my first ride I started having the squeaks, assume my lbs will take care of it.

I dont' know if some of my enjoyment has to do with hype surrounding this bike. For me I think comparing alot of the top rated bikes on MTBR is sort of like comparing a mercedes with a bmw or lexus. That being said I highly recommend the bike.

As for the value rating on the bike, if I paid 5 grand for it I would have said 3 or 4 chilis, but because I paid 3 grand I'm gonna say 5.

Strengths:This is a Barcalounger on two wheels. Most comfortable, secure ride I have ever had. Yes still incredibly agile and responsive. Total control, it feels planted yet suppple. Geometry is right for me (6' 3") 155 lbs. A suspension that doesn't eat your power too. Loose dirt, mud, rock garden, it does it all.
Weaknesses:None, it's expensive, but hey, you only live once. Actually I am not sure I like the Frankenstein Gothic funky lettering of the decals, but I can live with them.

Bottom Line:I swear I was 15% faster than before with this thing. I flew over some nastys that I previously would have slowed down for, laughing like an idiot. It's probably 'cause I was excited to ride the machine,but it's really terrific. It hooks up just right in loose conditions but works through the mud perfectly too, of course tires have a say, but the geometry, supspension and angles are right on the money. Rock gardens, here I come. Since I have a bad back I had to go full suspension, glad I did. Climbing is great, lockout on the front-rear suspension makes the really hard stuff (semi)doable (if I don't wimp it). Haven't had any doubts You really feel secure and in total control, regardless of conditions.

I'd say this was overkill for beginners, but right on target for more experienced riders wanting a 'do it all' ride, as in XC, not sure it's a maniac downhill setup as I don't do that type riding and can't tell ya.

It's hard to describe but it kind of 'glides' over technical sections, there's no way to describe it other than that. It's not mushy or pushy, rather it's "there". You feel the steering input instantly, power application is also instantaneous.

Do yourself a favor try a ride on one, you will be amazed at what it can do.

Bottom Line:I was over 1 minute faster through my favorite trail (6 miles) the first time I ever rode it, even though I didnt even have the shocks dialed in yet. The suspension just works. The rear tire stays glued to the ground through stuff you cant believe. It climbs like a dream. One hill that I have NEVER made it to the top of without putting a foot down - honestly I really wondered if ANYONE ever had - I climbed. I was able to carry an immense amount of speed and accuracy of line and then drop gears fast and pump up a sand hill with logs across it and a tight turn half way up. I was/am stunned.
As you read these reviews its hard to comprehend but this bike works so well it will allow you to do things you have never done before. All I can say is BE CAREFUL! This bike feels so good and is so reassuring that you will hurl yourself into things that you used to tiptoe into. I cant say enough.
Its not that impressive if you just hop on and drive around a parking lot but once you get into the trails it responds in a way that is unlike anything else I have ridden. It gives me everything I want. It is plush and yet it climbs like a mountain goat.
Who should buy it? well... Me! I am 41 years old, I have been riding mountain bikes for 20+ years. I have owned Gary Fisher, GT, Giant, Cannondale, Santa Cruz blah, blah, blah... Lots! I have lived in Colorado, California, Nevada, Michigan and now Florida and I have mountain biked pretty extensively in all of them as well as in Utah (Moab of course!) and North Carolina. I like riding in the mountain bike parks as well as trails. I am not a big drop or urban assault guy, never have been. I love varied, technically challenging 1-2 hour rides most now, but I used to like to ride all day! I am 5'10 and weigh 205lbs and I love this bike. I would have loved to ride it ANYWHERE I have ever been
My Epic (now on Ebay!) was/is a very fast bike but it is stiff and robotic at times, I used to feel as if I were flying along on a bike that was faster than me and I struggled to keep up with it. The steering was twitchy, unforgiving and unstable. The climbing was great until you hit big obstacles. When I got back to the parking lot I felt as if my Epic had shown me all the flaws in my riding. The Epiphany is one with me. It makes me feel like a better rider. After the first ride I trust it more than any bike I have ever ridden. It is predictable and stable and yet very fast. I could go on waxing poet for another paragraph or seven but the bottom line is this: I could not imagine anyone being disappointed in this bike in any way. The only reason not to buy one is shortage of money; in which case: start saving!

Bottom Line:By far the best full suspension 5 inch travel bike I have ever ridden, and I have ridden a lot. I was skeptical about the hype with regards to ICT. After a long demo ride I decided to buy one. This bike climbs better than my Flux and my NRS. I really did not think that was possible. Once the suspension is dialed in properly there is no pedal induced bobing. The grip on technical climbs is stellar and the front end does not drift when it gets steep.

Going down is even better. This bike does not suffer from brake jack like my Flux and NRS do. When going downhill under braking my Flux tends to lock out and the rear tire skips around. The Epiphany remains active under braking and gives you confidence inspiring braking power and control. Getting the rebound and sag setup takes some trial and error but once you get it right you really bomb downhill. Lateral stiffness means the bike turns predictably and has a snappy handling feel not usually found in bikes with a relaxed geometry. You never get that "oh crap I am going over the bars" feeling.

The overall ride quality is as good or better than any other 5 inch travel bike I have tried. Small bump performance is excellent and big hit performance is even better.

Overall I would say this is the only bike I have found that can actually do everything and do it well. I have owned or ridden just about every manufacturer out there and for a do-it-all XC/AM rig this bike blows all the others away.

Strengths:Anodized finish looks fantastic. Lightweight, durable, little flex. The ICT is truly amazing. On my first ride I noticed that I could climb with less difficulty and was less fatigued once I reached the top. The pedaling efficiency is unreal!

Bottom Line:When full-suspension bikes started, the trails gradually got rougher, so I reluctantly switched from my ultralight Klein hardtail. But my riding ability took a permanent hit on the ups.

Then I stupidly rode an early, 45lb. custom downhill Kona & that unbelievably smooth ride through faceted bowling balls skewed my perspective on what a full-suspension bike is supposed to do.

Unfortunately, it was impossible to get a bike that approximated both the stellar uphill performance of that featherweight Klein & the amazing downhill performance of that custom Kona. So I stuck with the same ratty old K2/Proflex for about 10 years, periodically trying new bikes & not being at all impressed.

One day I went on a Moab ride with a friend on an Ellsworth Truth & was pretty amazed by what he was able to do with so little weight & travel. I thought about getting one & started looking...then the Epiphany came along. I took the plunge.

There are people who should definitely not consider this bike. If you have a limited number of trails available or if you are a creature of habit, this bike is not for you. For whatever technical reason, you are going to need to ride much farther & over much rougher terrain to get the same challenge & workout--the obstacles that are intimidating & hard now simply won't be anymore. Your usual loops will be dispatched faster with less effort & body-abuse.

Go ahead & hurl yourself at the problems: your wheel isn't going to slip on that steep, rocky bit anymore; that downhill stretch isn't going to throw you around [& it will be over too soon]; catch a little air over that ledge--the landing won't be violent; you'll eventually stop even seeing the smaller features that used to cause trouble.

Be very careful going back to your old bike :)

There are a couple of set-up things it took me a while to figure out [apologies if these are obvious to everybody else]:
1. Set your suspension WAY softer than the manufacturer recommends so that you can actually use it all. Set the rebound as fast as you can before it starts to chuck you off.
2. Get bigger tires so you can run them softer.
3. Switch to platform pedals to remove mental hesitation so your head isn't holding you back from what this bike is capable of in technical & steep terrain.

Strengths:Awesome, looks sleek, utilizes what you pay for on the bike, and on the trail. dont be stupid but if you hit a ten footer out of nowhere this frame holds its own and keeps you to it.

rather then saying its pricey to its disadvantage... i think its an ADVANTAGE. subconciously with higher costing products (that usually means it might be rare) your mind and body will feel the urge to take very very very very good care of this thing... and when you look at it, sometimes its hard not to say "oh ill just meet up with my friends in a couple hours" trust me, this thing is great.
Weaknesses:uhmm....................... the anodized smoke finish makes people around me think im smoking them when i blaze past on the trails (safely)

Bottom Line:Don't have the money for it? BUY IT, it will encourage you to work harder on the trail (so it pays off) and in your career environment, everyone these days needs something to help them get to the next day with successful motivators (other then women or men depending on sex), but this thing is FUN, bouncy when you want it, steady when you need it, sometimes i feel like this thing propels me up hills... granted im out of breath when im at the top, but when you bullet back down the other side and its like your riding a rail... the adrenaline feels good especially with a ride as sophisticated as this...

Bottom Line:How do you go so fast down hill? It surely isn't me, it's the bike. Not a bad climber, especially in Eagle County Colorado.The Talas allows for some compression on long ascents. Had to shorten and angle the stem to help with back pain. The fork and rear shock after 2000 miles needed a rest and a well deserved rebuild at PUSH industries. I can't wait to be back on my bike especially after an unredeeming weekend in Fruita on an Ibis, A Rocky Mt. FS30, and a Specialized. It is not made in CHINA! Get this bike! You will not be disappointed. I wish my wife would get one too.

Bottom Line:Climbing:

Riding on one of my favorite trails, the ride starts out with a few small climbs and the Epi aced all with them no problem. I did not even get into the bottom ring! In fact this was the most significant characteristic of the bike - I did not have to shift much at all. I never liked going up and down through the gears anyway, being old school XC, I only like to use about 3 gears. Most of the other bikes I tried, I had to shift a lot on every little climb. With the Epiphany, I could leave it in the middle ring and climb most everything! I only used the bottom ring once on a really long climb. This climb has caused me to walk several times but with Epiphany I was able to cruise all the way to the top with no problem! It really climbs like my old hard-tail but better, especially when I dropped the front shock down. All the energy directly transfers to the rear wheel without a slip. In fact I noticed I was able to stay seated on a climb more on this bike than any other bike I have tried.

Cross Country Riding:

What can I say? SWEET! The bike handles like a dream. As I mentioned, being old school XC, I like to carve a razor line on the trail. My lines are very precise and I focus intently on what I am doing (part of the zen of riding) I am not thinking of anything else but my ride. I never "PLOW" my bike on a trail. This riding style was mostly born out the old hard tail / rigid fork days.

The Epiphany responds to every little subtle body movement. I can easily make a change of direction, navigate a tight switchback or cruise through a set of tight twisty curves. The guys I ride with were blown away on how good I was riding and how tight and fast my lines were. I think the main reason for this, in a nut shell, is that I am not "fighting" the bike. I am not fighting for control. The bike works with me, not against me. For an old school XC rider this bike is pure heaven!

Downhill:

Plush! With 5 inches of travel, the down hills are buttery smooth! I never once felt out of control or that the rear wheel was going to go over my head. Also, the bike handles small jumps with ease. I have always kept my bike on the ground. Staying on the ground was faster and if you jumped landings were always a crap shoot. Not to mention if you did not execute the take offs with precision, you were not going to be happy when you landed. I have learned this the hard way! This is not so with the Epiphany. The bike is so well balanced, that along with the geometry makes small jumps effortless.

The bike really brings back the pleasure and passion for riding that I have felt that the bike industry has been missing for quite some time. The attention to detail and the quality of the bike are top notch. After my ride, I felt really refreshed and could have easily gone another 2 to 3 hours of riding. Take it from an old school cross county rider, the Epiphany is a high quality well engineered product that actually delivers and then some.

Bottom Line:I had my eye on this beauty for about six months before I found a deal I couldn't pass up and I'm glad I didn't. I purchased it as a build up, complete bike and couldn't be happier. This bike blew my old Schwinn out of the water. I've only been on 3-4 good rides but I can already see this bike is a go anywhere do anything type of bike. If you see a mountain go ahead and ride to the top then let it all go down the other side. The inertia valve in the Fox Float X took a little getting used too, but one you get it dialed in it can soak up anything in your path but still lets you stand and pedal as hard as you want with no bob. The bike feels like a hard tail, especially when you flip the Pro Pedal switch on the Fox Float RP23, really making out-of-the-saddle efforts count. The bike also corners like its on rails, just point it where you want to go and you're there. So far everything is working flawlessly although its still in the break-in period. I'm truely inpressed with the XTR components, the brakes stop on a dime and the shifts couldn't be crisper (even if there is a SRAM X-9 in there...lol). I do participate in a few races a year and can't wait to see how this thing handles the competition. Though the Epiphany is a bit heavier than the Truth it is certainly race worthy. I'll keep you updated once I log some more rides.

Bottom Line:This is the most fun I have ever had riding in my life. I have ridden mt bikes for about 18 years and ridden bikes in general for about 28. Got this bike in Aug and have ridden about 4-6 days a week ever since. Rode throughout the winter in the snow and ice and frigid temps (never did that before, never really wanted to either). Only went snowboarding and skiing a handful of times because I wanted to ride my bike. I recently was without my bike for a week and 3 days (longest week and 3 days EVER). I rode my old bike while I was waiting for the replacement rocker and granted, if you are a good rider, you can ride anything and still be good, but man, what a difference. A Kia and a Mercedes both do the same thing, but when you drive them, you see the difference. The Epiphany is just so effortless to control and climb with. On tricky technical sections, it gives you so much confidence. My old bike was bouncing all over the place on sections with lots of rocks or roots, but the epiphany just sticks to the ground. I had someone riding behind me comment about how my back tire never left the ground and they were so amazed. If you like to feel every bump when you ride and have a sore rear after, this bike is not for you. Downhills are a breeze as well as it sucks up everything in its way. Sections I used to avoid, I now attack full force and the epiphany handles them with ease. I highly recommend this bike to anyone that has the means.

Strengths:Just about everything. It descends so well it almost shocked me. Steering is so precise around tight switchbacks, point and go. The real beauty of this bike is the rear suspension, it works better than I thought it would. Looks are killer with the ano matte black paint and magnesium rocker. It gets looks everywhere I ride. I have only had it on two good rides so I'll have to update later.

Bottom Line:For someone looking for and all around performer look no further. I rode the Truth for 3 seasons and used for 24 Hours of Adrenaline. I love this bike, however, decending ability is a bit lacking when it gets techical and fast.

The Epiphany solved this desending problem while maintaing all of the handling attributes the Truth is known for. The Epiphany's performance is due to sum of all it's parts. Fox RP23 shock and TALAS fork make this ride.

Dial in the fork to 140mm and and the shock to full open setting and let it fly down hill. This alone is worth the price of admission. Most of the time I have the fork at 120mm and ProPedel set at 2. This is a great all around set-up I have found so far, although I must admit I have not explored all of the shock and fork settings yet. On technical switch back climbs I set the fork to 100mm and the handling is even more precise than the Truth, this was a pleasant surprise for me I was not expecting.

Bottom Line:The Isis was a superb bike but decided it was time for a change. Came across this brand new Epiphany and what a bike it is. Excellent geometry and it feels like a fast xc race bike to ride but far more bullet proof. A very fast and very responsive bike with positive feel. Climbing is rapid, getting the power down is rapid, downhill decents are soaked up by the 5" travel. The speed at which this gets you down is mind blowing, without being scarey. Slow technical riding is perfectly balanced. I tried the Blur XC, a fast bike, tried the Blur LT which seemed tall and a hand full, the Epiphany feels a bit like the XC but with a lot more hidden capability. This bike meets all my requirements of a mountain bike. The build of this bike makes it light and good for xc, enduro events or hardcore blasts of insanity. I wont be moving on from the Epiphany for a LONG time. It does it all, exceptionally well and looks mint.

If you got the bucks buy it. The bike is quick,handles great, and goes beyond my capabilites at this point. Something to grow into. Also, be prepared for crowds, people want to know about Ellsworthia. Tell them all.

Bottom Line:For point of reference I'm 5'10" 185 pounds. I have put in about 3 light months on a medium Epiphany. I still haven't decided if it is the right size for me or if I should be on a large. I like a fairly stretched cockpit so have a 110 x 5 stem. The Kore Seatpost with I Beam rails is fairly setback. The bike is a good do everything bike. It is lighter weight with another inch of travel over my previous 01 Truth. My trail preference is rolling all day singletrack and this bike is purpose built for that. It is a good climber. The Revelation can be dropped in it's travel to accomodate prolonged uphill pitches. I don't seem to get much front end lift with steep technical climbs. The steering is fairly fast with a steep XCish head angle. I don't go mach downhill anymore, but it can handle way more than I have given it. Overall, a very good ride. Wish it were not soo expensive.

Bottom Line:The Instant I got on this bike, I felt like I'd owned it ages. It's a very predictable, awesome handling, comfortable ride. The Pike with a thru-axle and the minions really let me fly on the downhills and singletrack without detracting on the uphills too much. Any shortcomings in the tyres were more than made up for by the lightweight stiff efficient pedalling that the frame gives.
I can sit on this bike all day and it just wants more, always urging me through the rough stuff. You find yourself looking for bad lines just to enjoy the suspension.

Strengths:This thing has it all - my fav track has big climbs, downhill sections, real technical rocky parts, and heaps of stream crossings...it handles them all. Been doing track with wifey and was comfortable at 2:5 hours. Got a chance to do on my own last weekend, tune my trusty stead in and did it flying at 1:5 hours - really pushed it and it just smiled at me. I hit a section of about 80 trail stairs wuth lips at speed (forgot they were there until it was too late) and was a bit worried how it (and me) would hold up, even expected some bottoming out, but all fine.
Weaknesses:Too addictive. No nothing to worry about here. Oh maybe the only thing I can think of is when hitting a tight corner with speed the back end gets a little loose...probably more the lower tyre pressure then anything.

Strengths:Smooth suspension, very plush even at this early stage and resists my choppy pedal style really well. Frame is suprisingly light, but feels very strong and stable. Beautifully made. UK pricing on Ellsworth frames is really good at the moment (the price above is in £ Sterling or GBP). Really easy to set up the Float R shock.

Bike Setup:I stuck with the Float R shock as the dealer insisted I didn't need a 'platform' or a lockout – he was right. Talas RLC forks, XT shifters/cranks/cassette/derailleurs, Hope Mono Mini brakes, Hope Pro II hubs laced to Mavic 717 rims, Specialized Enduro Pro 2.2 tyres, Thomson Elite seatpost and stem, Easton Carbon Monkeylite bars, SDG Ti saddle. The all-up weight for my bike is about 26.5lbs.
Bottom Line:I never thought I was a 5" travel kind of guy, until I rode this bike. On smooth trails, tarmac etc it rides solid and smooth – almost like a hardtail. But is sucks up bumps amazingly when the trail gets rough. Because the frame is light, it feels 'snappy' and steers really quickly. Descending is a real 'point-and-shoot' affair – just look where you want to go.
The bottom bracket is pretty high, but you don't feel like you're pertched on top of the bike, more sat 'in' it. It wanders a little when climbing if you don't wind down the travel on the forks, but I'm going to fit a 0-degree rise stem which will help sort that out (plus, I'm just not used to the height of the front end yet – I need to adjust my riding style to make the most of the travel. My last forks were 80mm!).
The suspension in the rear is so well engineered that you really don't need to worry about 'platforms'. The stock Float R shock does a great job – just pump in some air to match your body weight, set the rebound and you're away.
I'd recommend this bike to anyone who just wants to ride. It feels like it should be at home just about anywhere. Even though it seems perfectly happy with my 200lb + weight, it's not the choice for freeriders, though. A truly inspiring bike that can do just about anything. Should be used as the diectionary definition of "Mountain Bike."

Bottom Line:This is an amazing bike, and I think I found it at one of the best prices around. I've attached a copy of my build kit. I did a lot of shopping around on this bike and after talking to the guys over at Richards Bikes (Mike R. specifically) I decided to go with their "Specialized Build Kit". This bike was priced very well, and they let me ride it, along with a ton of other high end bikes that they had available in their store when I went to make my purchase. All of the guys there were very knowledgeable, and their prices & customer service were outstanding. I really felt confident when talking to Mike that I was getting the best bike for my money, and now that I've had it for a couple of months, I know that I was right. The bike handles very well, pedaling is suburb, and climbing is out of this world. The welds on the frame are the best I've ever seen, and the precision quality of each aspect of the frame is like nothing I've ever seen. I also dig the sweet custom looking marbleized paint job that Ellsworth offers on their frames now. I always get a ton of looks and comments when I’m out on the trails here. This bike is definitely a 10 out of 10. I would recommend an Epiphany & the guys over at rbikes.com in Palos Heights, IL to anyone out there looking for a top of the line custom built bike! Bottom Line:Tracks better than my wife's Truth. Much lighter than my old Trek 30. Plusher than the Specialized FSR and the Blur. I've tried them all. I'm 55, in shape, and ride steep trails, lots of climbing (3000-4000 ft/day), the bike is as easy to pedal with the rear shock engaged as with it locked out. Because I have a long torso and short legs, I can't touch the ground on switchback turns. The Gravity Dropper solves the problem. It's worth the extra weight. Hell, I should lose another couple of pounds of body weight anyway. I don't do jumps or stunts, so there are no comments on the 5 inches of travel. I probably use 3 inches. I don't think I use the bike to it's potential, so I paid a lot for comfort and efficiency. But, what a pleasure!
