Strengths:    Good set of headline components and a good price.

Weaknesses:    Not really designed by a mountain-biker. For example: no quick-release seat clamp, no sealed gear cables, bad geometry.

After 6 months, we had already gone through one bottom bracket, one head-set and two pedals. Then the chain-stay snapped clean in half. And this was only cross-country use by my 14 year-old son!

Bottom Line:
Seems like good value but: "Good components do not a bargain make". OK for posing around the park on - but spend another 300 quid and get a decent bike if you want to hit the trails. The geometry is twitchy and the frame is crap.

2013 Carve comp good base?

Looking at a 2013 Carve Comp as a base build. I am new to the MTB scene. I rode a 2014 crave base at the lbs, I can tell the components are low end, especially the brakes compared to riding a 2014 trek superfly 9.7. Ride was good though. Possible mods include upgraded brakes, shifters and derail ... Read More »
