Favorite Trail:Cwm Carn
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Price Paid: $500.00
Purchased At:Martyn Shcrofts
Strengths:This bike is as cheap as chips as are replacement parts and it’s tough and strong but it is what it is and nothing more,
Weaknesses:If it cost a lot more money I would point out weaknesses. But what more do you want for the cash.
Similar Products Used:I use a Trek 09 ex8 for the mountain.
Bike Setup:As it comes.
Bottom Line:This is a tough, strong bike, it’s cheap and repairs, replacements don’t cost a lot. Brake parts along with the drive train will need to be replaced at least once a year if you ride a hard 90 miles a week and the bars, stem, seat post and seat are no good. Replace them straight off with good stuff. Don’t bother trying to ride it on the mountain or on demanding trails it doesn’t cut the big boy stuff but if you want a bike to build your stamina and leg miles, then hit the canals, forest roads and roads on this and you will enjoy every minute of it. It compliments my ex8 and keeps me fit to fight.

Date Reviewed: November 2, 2009
Favorite Trail:Tampines Bike Park, Singapore
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $300.00
Purchased At:T3 Bicycle Gears
Strengths:Strong yet a reasonably lightweight frame. Cheap. Good front suspension. Excellent brakes.
Weaknesses:Before I upgraded the components on the bike, I found that the stocked parts such as the rear derailleur, crankset, seatpost and saddle is just too heavy. Another weakness is that its only 7-speed. I would have preferred it to be at least 8-speed.
Similar Products Used:Had a Trek Y3 before it was stolen. Heartache right there.
Bike Setup:All stock except for the following... XTR: Crankset, rear derailleur and clipless pedals. SRAM: Cassette. Mavic Crossride wheels. Bontrager Race X Lite ACC seatpost. Selle San Marco SKN saddle. Intense EX DC tires.
Bottom Line:I got this bike as a birthday gift from my sister in 2007. I then gradually upgraded the stock parts as I found them too heavy and my 3700 has become what it is today. It has become lighter and rides better than before. There is no doubt about it though, even without the upgrades, the bike was still riding well and it has a very strong frame. Recommended especially for beginners!

Favorite Trail:High Desert Trail System (Gallup, NM)
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $320.00
Purchased At:Bike World
Strengths:Good frame
Weaknesses:Bad rim, pedals, crank set...and most everything else parts wise is entry level proving the need for replacement if you plan on hitting the mtns
Similar Products Used:Kona
Bike Setup:Metal pedals, new rim set, crank set, and chain
Bottom Line:I love the bike, but for the money I have pumped into it would probaly just spend a few more dollars up front for a all around durability. Upset with the constant need for repair. Overall I enjoy it but would find it hard to reccomend if you plan on more intermediate and expert mountain bike trail rides.

Favorite Trail:Cunningham Park
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $340.00
Purchased At:Twinns Bicycles
Strengths:Front suspension, Rapid Fire Shifters, sharp braking, great handling on sharp turns, pump tracks, and swithbacks, durable frame
Weaknesses:slighty uncomfortable handlebars when riding hard and jumping
Similar Products Used:previously was a K-Mart Blue Light Special Owner
Bike Setup:Stock except for tires
Bottom Line:I finally decided to go out and spend the money on a bike that was going to last. I bought the Trek 3700 and do not regret my decision one bit. The bike has handled above and beyond my expectations. I beat the hell out of the bike amongst the trails in Cunningham park in Queens. Pump tracks, dirt jumps, log rides, mud, switchbacks, rocks, uphills and downhills. The bike is still running strong. I try to keep her well maintained, tuned-up and clean. For an affordable priced, non-expert trail bike, this bike is definately a great choice. I would recommend it for anyone whos either a beginner or intermediate. Bike handles green, blue, and black tails very well in Cunningham but harder trails on serious mountains may NOT do this bike justice.

Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $406.00
Purchased At:Bike Depot
Strengths:Cheap, works, rides good, warranty is awsome
Weaknesses:For the price none noted.
Similar Products Used:Raleigh MCC-8
Bike Setup:Stock.
Bottom Line:I bought this bike to replace my minivan when it quit and have been using it for my main transportation to work and back. So far its been great. The components are far from high end but it isn't high end priced either. It rides great and the even the shock isn't that bad for a non adjustable foam shock. The waranty and the service at the bike shop I bought it from are great. Two year on parts and lifetime on the frame. Then a year of free tuning repairs etc. Not bad. Deffinetly worth the price over a walmart special.

Bottom Line:This is an excellent bike for anyone who wants an affordable mountain bike that isn't meant for lots of airtime. It works great for trail riding because of the grip on the tires. All my friends love it. Simple to use, tune, repair. All in all just a great bike, love it!

Date Reviewed: June 6, 2009
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $349.00
Purchased At:Bike America
Strengths:Lightweight, Fast, Shifts Easy, Durable
Weaknesses:Only Front Suspension
Similar Products Used:Realm Cycles (Iron Horse) Contour 1.0, GT Mach 1
Bike Setup:Front Suspension, 21 Gear Drivetrain, Lightweight,
Bottom Line:I bought the contour 1.0 and after it broke I decided to get a real bike. I went with this one, it is very light. I got it for a good price. Down a steep hill it went 29.5 mph. It is very easy on any type of land. I do not like the fact that it is full suspension, but its not really a problem for me. If you're the kind of person who likes to get air or pop wheelies, then this bike is for you. It can hop curves very well. It can also do very excellent wheelies and stoppies. It is ultimately a good option for a person who wants to do tricks with a mountain bike experience. So overall, it is lightweight, fast, and easy to use a pretty good choice for a beginner or an intermediate biker. That is why I deem this a 5 Star.

Strengths:Smooth shift, Easy ride, Brakes(rear), trigger shift, Shock/ suspension, Price, Colour and design, the speed( it seemed to go faster sooner for me)

Bottom Line:Fantastic for Harsh weather commuting, back woods riding, beginners, and def. low maintenance riding. Had none of the issues reported here. Chain slipped once when I messed with the derailleurs but that's my fault. Also It is pretty tough... mine was ran over and was still rideable... hell it barely had a scratch!!!!!! Submitted by The M.T. Bike a Cross Country Rider from Warren, ME
Date Reviewed: December 17, 2008
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $350.00
Purchased At:Bath Ski and Cycle
Strengths:I have been very hard on this bike, and yet somehow it is still in great shape. This was basically my first bike as an adult, so until recently I had no clue about cycle maintenance whatsoever. I literally did nothiing to maintain it for a year plus - no chain lube, no brake tightening, no tire inflation, no cleaning...NOTHING. I have still hardly worked on it, yet I take it out whenever I want to without a problem.
The drivetrain has been all-in-all almost flawless. The rear derailleur still shifts like the day it was bought, the levers are in great shape, and the chainrings have taken a beating but are still in excellent shape.
The frame is sturdy...I don't know much about mountain bike frames, but this one is solid and will take a beating.
The front shocks really cushion you on those bumpier off-road rides. On roads you hardly ever notice the blemishes in the pavement.
I just took the bike for a ride around town. I snowed today and the roads were caked with packed snow. Even after two years, the tires still gripped the icy surface - I never once felt unstable, even when I slammed on the brakes to test them the tires held.
Brakes were not adjusted/tightened at all for first year, and I rode at least 20 miles per week. The pads are still in excellent shape, and the brakes were super easy to tighten.
Weaknesses:The only thing that has ceased to work is the front derailleur. I don't believe this is a weakness of the product, however, because it has been repeatedly caked with mud for two straight years, and never cleaned or lubed. Once I get around to cleaning it properly and tightening the cables it shouln't be an issue. The chain did break after a year and a half...again, I never once oiled the original chain, took it through mucky rides through the woods, and beat the crap out of it until it just gave up...with minimal TLC this wouldn't have happened. If I wanted to be really nitpicky, I would say that the seat is rather uncomforable for longer rides (10 miles plus), but with padded cycling shorts this is hardly noticable.
Similar Products Used:Aside from a road bike, this is it...and I don't plan on trading this beauty in for a long while
Bike Setup:Stock
Bottom Line:If you give this baby a little TLC (as any bike deserves), she will serve you right. I couldn't imagine this bike performing any better. Seriously. Not a complaint. Worth every penny and then some.

Purchased At:Landis Cyclery
Strengths:Taken some abuse on some tough terrain. Light bike that shifts easily. Good bike to start with.
Weaknesses:Rear wheel keeps needing to be trued up. Shifting on the fly can be a chore. Rear derailer acts funny sometimes. Front acts funny going from 2nd to 1st, also.
Bike Setup:Pretty much stock.
Bottom Line:Love this bike. It has done pretty much everything I have asked of it. For a hardtail it climbs and takes bumpy trails real well. Might eventually move up, but will get plenty of good use out of this bike.

Date Reviewed: October 10, 2008
Favorite Trail:N/A
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $350.00
Purchased At:Shipped from Zane's
Strengths:The frame on this bike is pretty much undestroyable and anyone would tell you that. Made out of aluminium, it is pretty light and has a pretty good riding balance and is pretty stable at high speeds (40+MPH).The other parts on the bike don't tell the same story
Weaknesses:The tires, gears, forks, crank arm, pedals, rims was not the best product trek could have installed on the bike. The tires are very slippery when the get wet and you can feel them slip in when cornering on roads. About after 275-300 miles, I began to get a mild ghost shifting problem and at around 900-1000 miles, it'll just ghost shift around 2nd and 3rd for the rail derailaur when climbing which is an annoying problem. Also, I now have the problem of the front derailuar not shifting to 1 unless it's it's coasting which can be a problem also. The forks on the bike has a very short travel and is really not the bike you would want to use for any intense riding. Also at about 1,100, the crankarm for the left side just fell off. On closer inspection, it has seemed that the mount had been rounded from aggresive riding or lousy build quality. This I guess isn't really Trek's fault but that is a flaw. The plastic pedal for the bike is just not for the bike and I advising buying a metal pedal for the bike. I am an agressive rider and running over stuff and all the rim on the rear wheel has already developed three dents which now hampers with the operation of the brakes. I'm planning to get a more durable rim but this bike really is just an entry bike as it's listed and other than the frame, isn't designed for any intense riding.
Similar Products Used:Specialized HardRock 01, Specialized HardRock XC, Specialized Big Hit FSR II
Bike Setup:Sorry but I don't for allthe names of the parts on me.
Metal Pedals, WTB MTB seat, rear mud fender, cyclocomputer
Planning to replace tires, rims, forks, and get a front wheel disc brake.
Bottom Line:The bottom line is it depends on what type of terrain you will be riding alot of the time. If you want to use a bike for casual traveling and occasional trail riding this is the bike to get. It is very stable at speeds even over 40 MPH and does not perform that badly on the trails under than the ground clearance with the front derailuar. The frame on this bike is literally indestructable so if you could just replace all the lousy equipment on the bike and custom build your own killer bike. For the price of the bike, this is the perfect bike for an entry-level mountain biker or the casual biker that does a little of everything. Also, this bike is pretty good for aggressive road riding but cornering on wet pavement and slippery surfaces might prove a problem. I would recommend this bike for someone that isn't so crazy about mountain biking but does some trails.

Bottom Line:Overall i like the bike. The front shock is nice and the gear shifters are nice. Recently i have been having some trouble with the derailer. And the above weaknesses are completely understandable. I have been very abusive to the bike, riding in the mud and rain, jumping off ledges higher than probably recommended, and skidding to a stop at every opportunity. I'm looking for full suspension now because this bike just isn't if used for not to rugged trails and not abused too much, its a very good bike for the price.

Bottom Line:the price of this bike makes it perfect for a beginner that doesnt trust a cheap bike from wal-mart. i have used this bike for over a year now and had not had to bring it in for repairs at all. no major (or minor for that matter) problems at all for the whole year. the frame has no damage and the bike still shifts like new.

Similar Products Used:nothing this crappy except walmart bikes
Bike Setup:stock except new rims and kenda tires
Bottom Line:uh... crap. i got the 07 model. got ripped royally by the lbs. since the start the shifting was real screwy. lbs (terre haute cycling and fitness) said it was the rear derailleur. another lbs (FAT BIKES)told me it was the derailleur hanger and dropdown. both were bent when i bought it BRAND NEW STILL SEALED. fat bikes fixed that for free. within first month i blew 8 tire tubes. the stock tires SUCK. 1 puncture happened with a blunt stick in the road. got kenda tires never had another blowout. the shifting is still screwy in the front but without a new crank (both lbs agree to this) it cant be fixed. front fork kept botooming out and sticking a little until recently it jammed and i could not get it to let go. i plan to part the thing out and scrap it because it is not worth it to keep repairing it. i have already spent $180 on parts (rims hubs freewheel chain brakes tires etc.)and im sick of it. i wouldnt recommend this heavy piece of scrap metal to ANYONE. save up and buy a specilized pro level bike or same level of any other brand. trek is way over priced for what you're getting

I started by getting in shape on a bike trail in Tucson and then spent a bunch of time at Fantasy Island (pretty flat and fast). After 2 years I realized I was out growing it... the rear derailleur was having some problems shifting and the forks were not soaking up the bumps well enough as I got faster. Then I moved to Longmont, CO and started hitting trails with more elevation gain and rocks, and it was definitely time to upgrade. Decided to put the money into a new bike instead of components.

Purchased At:Sunshine Bikes, Marin
Strengths:Cheap, strong, matte black paint scheme looks great, comfortable.
Weaknesses:Front suspension, front derailleur
Similar Products Used:None
Bike Setup:Stock, except for a pump
Bottom Line:This bike is definitely a good choice for those of us who love mountain biking and want a good strong bike without shelling out the big bucks. However, it's not flawless. It's comfortable to ride, but the front suspension seems to only travel about a third of its maximum, and my front derailleur didn't work properly for months after I bought it, shifting only down to the smaller chainring and not shifting back up. Despite its flaws, the bike is strong, fun to ride, and feels like it could take a moderate beating (well, not the suspension, but the frame does). Overall, get it if you are just stepping into mountain biking, but check your components before you hit the trail. For the price, it does the job great.

Bike Setup:SINGLESPEED! new tektro levers/avid sd7 brakes, rear mavic wheel with shimano hub, hutchison python rear/scorpion front tires. sugino ss crankset. nashbar tough stuff saddle. surly singultor. specialized stem. stock bars, front wheel, seatpost, headset, and fork.
Bottom Line:Great bike. used it at the trails all my life and made lots of upgrades to it. of course took off the pedals first day and replaced the grips first day as well. gradually made upgrades then went to singlespeed before upgrading the drivetrain. buy this bike if you are looking for a good bike to mess around with. stock rst fork is better than you might think considering its got 70 mm travel. good fork soaks up bumps and such. the brakes will do until you get an upgrade. the singlespeed has really lightened the bike up a lot. used to be a tank, but now it is really pretty light. running 34/18 gearing and that works great.

Strengths:Very comfortable when fitted right. Lightweight.
Weaknesses:Nut caps on the pedals popped off the first day and will not stay. Base model with a growing MB addiction. Wanted a higher end model the first month.
Similar Products Used:Dept store off rack.
Bike Setup:Standard trail-riding settings.
Bottom Line:My first quality mountain bike. One month in, I got so addicted to riding that I wanted an upgrade. This is a great entry level bike to get on and see how serious about riding you want to be. Set up by a skilled tech, this bike will handle most anything a beginner will want to tackle. 3700 is a perfect, affordable bike for anyone just wanting a leisure trail bike.
