Strengths: Very solid light weight alum frame, takes a beating no matter what I throw at it. Good geometry feels comfortable.
Weaknesses: the grips, and seat leave alot to be desired of course what bike dosen't? Would be nice if the front for had a lockout on it.
Bottom Line:
I have had this bike for four years now and have ridden the hell out of it, recently this summer I overhauled the drive train giving it a new cass, chain, front deraileur switched out for XRAM 7 and like it better. I have replaced the grips with Lizzard Skins which make the ride more comfortable on the hands, also changed tires as well. The pedals are going to be next on the list. Also ugraded the chain and replaced a couple cables.Have had no issues with brakes they work great for me wet or dry. Would reccomend this bike to anyone aam a Raleigh fan.
Bike Setup: the overall setup of bike is not bad at all, mine is the 2008 model and for the price nice package.

Strengths: The handling. The quickness and stability of this bike are baffling no matter what terrain. It handles rock gardens, roots, steep climbs, crazy steep downhills, granite, gravel and mud without a second thought.
Weaknesses: The avid 5 brakes are more than adequate, but wear out quickly if your over 220 pounds in the mountains.
Bottom Line:
This bike disproves the notion that better bikes cost more $$.
This is the BEST Aluminum frame I have come across.
Weaknesses: SR Suntour fork sucks. Mech. Avid brakes are ok, but cables should be replaced. I was constantly adjusting throughout my ride.
Bottom Line:
To start, this bike is a great set up for the money. I purchased it when I moved close to some single track and realized my current bike couldn't handle it (front wheel looked like a Taco). I got hooked on off road and for the first two years, this bike worked for what I needed it to do. If you're in the mareket for something set up better than you're currently riding, I can't imagine buying this bike. I'd recommend spending the $1500 or more for a tricked out HT. The $500-$700 range of bikes are going to leave you wanting better real quick, and upgrading is expensive.
That said, I was fortunate enough to find a couple deals I couldn't pass up and opt'd for the upgrade route. As mentioned above, this bike has a rock solid frame and drive train, and that's something you just don't sell off for $150. I upgraded the Avids to Magura Louise BAT, have a Magura Menja in the mail and am upgrading the handle bars to Truvativ Holzfeller world cup (for strenght 31.8Ø)and the AKA stem (to accomodate 31.8Ø bars). You can make it a bad a$$ HT, but it's not worth it if you have to pay full retail for the components.
Yes my handle bars broke and I crashed = DH grade handle bars. I don't count grams.... Only 4 Chilis for the overall due to this. It hurt pretty bad.

Strengths: I have an '08 model. Great all around bike. Awesome components. I'm very hard on bikes, I jump, I wreck, I ride, and this bike has never left me hanging on a trail.
Weaknesses: original pedals were blah. Just recently replaced the hand grips because they started twisting on me. the front shock leaves quite a bit to be desired for the level of riding I do, but for the money and the overall picture its the right shock. have found that the upper connection by the headset where the rear shift cable meets the frame is too close to the headset (my opinion) so that if wrecked it pinches the metal cable end and causes the rear to lag on upshifts. The BB5's suck... have never gotten them tuned right
Bike Setup: now I have comp grade shimono clipless pedals, lizard skin lock grips, lizard skin carbon fiber chainstay and head tube protectors. removed all reflectors(bike never sees the road) jagwire cable housings and aztec teflon coated cables(A Great investment)new rear derraileur(because I pretzeld the oringinal)--- Soon to have a new front fork with lockout, juicey 7's front and back, raceface handlebar and HOPEFULLY a tubeless wheelset...

Strengths: Raleigh Mojave 8.0 Components on this bike are great! For the money i had to spend this thing fit perfect. i ride it hard and takes it like a champ. Had a few problems lately ( broke my handle bars in half and bent front rim bad) but that seem to be from normal ware and tare. over all great bike!
Weaknesses: nothing comes to mind has done great for me.
Bottom Line:
great all around bike has done everything i have tried and done great. awesome bike!

Strengths: Lightweight, but feels real solid under me. Can't beat the components for the price on the '08 model...'09 model has lots of downgrades. Ridden in sand, mud, hard pack, and asphalt and the Geax tires perform well in all scenarios.
Weaknesses: No major weaknesses come to mind. Others reviewed the grips poorly, I don't mind them at all...grips are inexpensive to change anyway. Love my '08 model.
Bottom Line:
This is an excellent bike for the price range. Although the 2009 model has several key downgrades from the 2008 model, the Mojave 8.0 is supreme to the competition. With Raleigh you pay for a quality bike and not for a big name.
Similar Products Used: Compared components and such to similarly priced Specialized, Giant, Jamis, and Felt bikes and Raleigh is definitely the most bang for the buck. Incredible deal.
Bike Setup: '08 model still stock-RockShox Tora 289 fork, Shimano Deore Front and Rear derailleurs and Deore 9speed shifter, Avid BB5 mechanical disc brakes.

Strengths: Awesome bike. At the price point (even if you're paying full retail) you can't beat the components. I used to do a lot of freestyle BMX riding and I feel right at home on this bike. I've put it through it's paces and short of pinching a tube I have had no problems with it what so ever.
Weaknesses: The grips really do suck. If you ride without gloves they feel terrible, if you ride with gloves they don't take long to get chewed up. I really wish the front shock had a lock out (the 2009 does) but I've figured out how to adjust the rebound and preload to get it pretty close to locked out.
Bottom Line:
I love this bike. At first I was a little worried because I've never spent this much on a bicycle at once, but it's been totally worth it. I've ridden the hell out of it, both on my commute to work and on the trails on the way to work and it has shown no sign of weakness.
Similar Products Used: Gary Fisher Wahoo was my real comparison point. I also rode a bunch of specialized and treks before deciding on this one.
Bike Setup: Still stock. Looking into some taller bars and better grips.

Strengths: (2008 model) best bang for your buck, deore, tora shock, i like the geax saguaro tires for an "all terrain" trip
Weaknesses: none so far...potentially grips, but need to ride more before giving them a solid thumbs down
Bottom Line:
Try to find a similar setup on any other frame and then look at your price tag...
Excellent bike, especially for the rider who wants a quality setup and doesn't want to sell a kidney to get it.

Strengths: Excellent frame! Strong as can be! Avid BB5s are extremely nice. The rear derailler is ok...sometimes it seems to get hung up, or at least it makes a little noise.
Weaknesses: Not fond of the front shock. Geax tires are ok, not great at everything, but good overall.
Bottom Line:
As good as it gets for an entry level. Specs out great for the money. I can honestly recommend this bike for others like me now getting into the sport. It'll do the trick for a couple years at least, if not more.
Bike Setup: Stock thus far. I think a new shock will be in order soon.

Strengths: One of the biggest "bangs for your buck" available....the components are excellent for beginers
Weaknesses: i have ony had it six months or so expectedly i haven't had many problems with the bike....to nit-pick i would say the SRAM deraileurs on the '07 a little better but have had no problems with the deore...also the geax tires are very fast and grippy on hardpack but blow fat ass on sand, gravel, and rooty trails especially when climbing....i wiped out banking into a turn in sand not to long ago....fortunately the design of the tire makes wiping out predictable so that you are never really surprised by a wipeout
Bottom Line:
great bike, great price, excellent for beginers planning to get semiserious about biking --- not the best --- usually more $$$ means a better bike
Similar Products Used: had other raleighs -- nothing really similar to this

Strengths: Nice components, looks great, comfy
Weaknesses: Not sure yet about the tires, grips would not be good on a gloveless hand
Bottom Line:
Wow, I'm loving this bike. I've got the '08, the '09's have been downgraded (fork, front derailer, rear cassette)and the price went up...that's not good, but not unusual given the economy.
Anyway, she climbs like crazy, Tora shock is nice, love the handlebar. Someone complained about the Deore front derailer?? Must need adjusting, mine is PERFECT and shifts so smoothly. So does the rear. The brakes lacked initial bite at first but after some longish downhills they are great with nice feedback. I've had it on some intermediate XC trails and the tires are OK, not great, I haven't tried them in mud yet.
This bike looks so good in black with some tasteful red/white graphics. I don't think you can do better overall at this price point.

Strengths: I have the '07 version that I bought used. It is a great upgrade over my old diamondback peak, which was stolen from me. Shifting is smooth, frame seems nice and rigid, and it is a great climber. Evidently, the original grips sucked, but the lizard skins are great. Haven't hit the trails yet (plan to this weekend!), but some rough city conditions (curbs, potholes, etc) have been navigated through with no problem. The Avid brakes are much better than the Tektros that come on most bikes around this price. I think the WTB clipless pedals were upgraded, but in any case, they perform well and going clipless is one of the best upgrades you can make to a bike.
Also, I think the newer models have lower-end Shimano parts instead of the X7s. I'd recommend getting one with SRAM if you can find one or one with better Shimano parts. The '07 model has the best components.
Weaknesses: I don't like the Suntour front fork very much. It may be that I haven't taken enough time to get it at a resistance that I like, but something about it annoys me. The lockout feature is pretty nice, though, since I will be riding both city and single track with it. May replace it with a Rockshox Dart 2.
Bottom Line:
For under 1000, you can get this bike and some upgrades and it will be about the best you can do for your money.
