Submitted by JP a Cross Country Rider from Brisbane
Date Reviewed: September 22, 2006
Favorite Trail:All backcountry tours!
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $1100.00
Purchased At:Brisbane Bicycles
Strengths:Great spec bike for the price. SRAM X-7 works very smoothly - makes sense to shift with thumbs! Strong bike so far, and light enough for weekend and competition use.
Weaknesses:I wanted to use this bike for long distance MTB touring, but it doesn't have pannier rack mounting lugs - the bike shop said it would be alright! Also, the wheels became untrue within three short rides. Finally, the bottom bracket started clicking after a month. But I reckon it might have been the dodgy build at the bike shop that made all the problems...
Similar Products Used:Trek 6700 (sweet!). Trek 1000 (a bit crap).
Bike Setup:2005 bike. All stock for general MTB use.

Long distance set up: Topeak MTX beam rack with pannier frames, Deuter Uni Packs, Oasis gel saddle and Serfas Barista tyres.
Bottom Line:Despite the problems, I think the bike is worth the cash. I got it on sale for $800 aussie bucks, and compared to other bikes this price range it was a bargain! Solid frame and good components. Nice geometry too. The shocks could be smoother, but they are good for distance riding. Make sure that the bike shop sets up the bike properly, and if you get free services then milk them for all they give!
