Strengths:    Well built. Quite a good spec for the price.

Weaknesses:    2008 model. Second frame, first frame broke at bridging piece between seat stays. Now have later 2009 frame. XT Shadow rear deurallier can be a pain to set up. Sweet when it works properly. Easily affected by mud on cables.

Bottom Line:
Marin customer support is excellent,no problem exchanging frame free of charge under warranty. I would do a thorough check of frame if buying second hand. I've been lucky with the bottom bracket as I heard of premature failure with the Trutativ chainset. XT chainset will be my next purchase.

Strengths:    Very reliable and easy to handle, turns like a small rat.
Amazing hydroformed frame build.

Weaknesses:    None so far. Anodized colr is a little bit sensitive with rocks but that's it.

Bottom Line:
If you can buy this Marin Nail Trail Frame and build it with good components you will get an amazing experience.
Climps like a goat. I have also installed a specialized suspension seat post which made my rides very confy.

I have very little info on this bike and was hoping for a quick review before I consider any kind of de ... Read More »

2012-2013 Marin Nail Trail 29er REVIEWS

Yo. So I'm in the market for a 29er hardtail, and ideally want to spend about $1300 ish. I'm currently riding a 2003 GT iDrive 2.0, which (with its V-brakes and ancient Rock Shox Psylo fork) is not ideal. My LBS owner notified me that he could probably get me a 2013 Nail Trail for about $130 ... Read More »

New 2011 Nail Trail 29er

Picked this bike up for a spectacular deal last week. My first 29er and I love it. Stock except for the Specialized saddle. Plan on going tubeless as soon as it's time to buy new tires. Got all the materials but hear the Conti Race Kings are not good candidates for a tubless setup. Hope you ... Read More »

Gary Fisher Paragon vs. Marin Nail Trail

After several weeks of running around and trying different bikes and deciding I can't afford a custom, I have narrowed my choices to two: Gary Fisher Paragon - 21" Marin Nail Trail - 20.5" About me - 6'4" and fat (330lbs). I have an 8-9 year old Gary Fisher Big Sur that I got for free afte ... Read More »

Marin Nail Trail 29er or Scott Scale Elite 29er?

Looking for input from anyone who has ridden the 2011 Nail Trail 29er. I'm looking at it as a 2nd 29er (first being a FS). Does anyone know if the frame is designed to give a little rear vertical flex? I'm comparing it to a 2011 Scott Scale 29er Elite and was wondering how that bike rides as well. T ... Read More »
