Strengths:    Strong frame, good climber, can lock front suspension, disc brakes.

Weaknesses:    Weak fork, somewhat uncomfortable seat, cheap plastic pedals. Disc brakes can be noisey.

Bottom Line:

This bike is exactly as advertised a great starter mtn bike. I use to race bmx and never really rode a mtn bike untill I came to colorado and road my landlords gary fisher joshua x1 on a few trails and fell in love with mtn biking. Back to the avalanche its a little on the heavy side but it climbs hills like a champ and is a great ride I have rode all but the hardest trail on mt. Crested butte and its handles like a champ. I had to replace the pedals I couldn't keep my feet on them which is really sketchy going downhill and hitting jumps. I have hit many jumps and have gotten allot of air and I haven't noticed the fork bottom out but it has started to soften after all the constant abuse I put it through on the mtn. The rims and the fork will undoubtly be the first thing replaced as they are feeling the abuse but other then that this bike is amazing i ride it everywhere and have rode some long trails in a day and it has been a great buy and will serve me well for many years. If you want a quality bike at a great price take a good look at this bike if budget isn't an issue and you want to get into the sport spend a little more so you get a hard tail with higher qaulity parts.

Strengths:    This is a pretty good bike for someone to start out riding on. I bought this for my g/f last year to get into riding and away from her department store schwinn. She really liked how it rode and loved the color. It's a good value

Weaknesses:    It's kind of heavy and lower end components but this is an entry level bike

Bottom Line:

She has enjoyed riding it so far and its a nice looking bike for a lady. I am actually selling the bike now because she decided she wants a light weight road bike. If anyone is interested its on here in the classifieds
