Strengths:    Feels fast, very light; it is my first very good mountain bike. I can see how, with a few upgrades, it would be ideal for racing. It also climbs well, and is very responsive on any tricky sections of single track.

Weaknesses:    The biggest weakness for me is the fork. I am a heavy rider (approx 210 lbs.) at only 5'10", and the Manitou Skareb fork is far too soft for my liking. I pumped the shock up to the max psI, but it's still too soft. I have ordered the heavier spring kit for this season, so we'll see how it does.

Bottom Line:
This is the perfect bike if you're making the transition between serious weekend riding and sport-class recreational racing. If you are looking to race expert or elite class, you will need smoother shifting than Deore componenets can offer. The fork is always a matter of personal preference, but I think the Skareb will do for most people under 190 lbs.

Date Reviewed: April 26, 2004

Strengths:    light weight, hand made frame in Canada, comparable to more expensive x-country bikes.

Weaknesses:    Manitou front shock, decals seem to easily peel off, and the seat is as hard as a rock.

Bottom Line:
Super light, feels fast, grips well on pavement and hardpacked trails. Climbs well too. I can see replacing the front shock and the seat soon.

DJI Phantom

I'm surprised that there isn't mention on this forum of the DJI Phantom quadcopter and how useful it can be to get some cool shots and trail footage. My son-in-law and I went in on a joint effort, neither one of us with any RC experience, and after just a handful of flights came up with some good, ... Read More »

Phantom Pack Systems

I'm planning on purchasing a set (handle bar and seat post) bags. I'm leaning toward Phantom Pack Systems. Does anyone use these bags? Handle Bar Bag loads from one end only. They seem to be well made from the website pictures. Any info or pictures of your setup would be appreciated. Thanks, RickRead More »

Phantom Shifting/component issue?

Hey. I am going through some nonsense with my bike. Every time I take it out I have to re-adjust the rear derailleur on my bike. It tends to want to shift whenever the heck it feels like it unless we take a few minutes and re adjust it. Also, one of the regular crew is a tech in the bike shop so it ... Read More »
