CO2: Cannondale Oversized and Optimized design. These hardtails are a starting point for appreciation. When a rider experiences the lightweight, efficient ride quality and beautiful craftsmanship of a Cannondale frame - there's no turning back!

Strengths: Good frame, Strong wheels, The cst caballero tires are great for dry singletrack. I have an XL frame, it's geometry is very comfortable for me, and it will climb almost anything.
Weaknesses: where do i start? I broke the seat first ride, destroyed the crank and BB after 1 month, RST Gila pro fork rebounds way to fast and caused me to loose control several times also not enough preload for my weight(195lbs), the low limit screw on the sram sx4 derailleur did not do it's job, it would pop out allowing the chain to get jammed in between the spokes and cassette causing me to have to replace all of the drive side spokes. It never shifted well up front or in the rear until i replaced the entire drivetrain. the grips wore out fast and one came right off the handlebars half way through the first season. Caballero tires are no good when wet or climbing.
Bottom Line:
it is an overall good bike for the money. Because of the high quality frame, if you upgrade components it is Not like putting 10 pounds of crap in a 5 pound bag. I ride hard so this bike was not suited very well for me to begin with. Now that the components can handle me, I love this bike! I would reccomend this bike to anyone who is an entry level rider because it is cheap and can be upgraded as you get better.
Similar Products Used: cannondale f400 (very reliable bike)
Bike Setup: the bike is now set up with; Fox float RL fork, avid juicy five sl brakes 185 front/160 rear, FSA Gap Mega EXO crankset, x-7 shifters, x-7 derailleurs, specialiced adjustable angle stem, DT swis 420 disc wheelset, sram pc-990 chain, sram pg-990 11-34 cassette, currently running nokian studded snow tires but will switch back to Pacenti Neo-Moto's, lighter/high rise specialized handlebars, fuse locking grips. The only original parts are the headset and seatpost!

Strengths: Great Frame, Better feeling than equally priced bikes, relative weight to similar class of bikes
Weaknesses: Crappy front Der, likes to not go into the large chain ring. Stock saddle is uncomfortable
Bottom Line:
Great bike for a great price, at 290 lbs I have a hard time bottoming out the gila shock and it takes a pounding and keeps coming. The other bikes I test rode certainly couldn't say that even after adjusting the shocks. The handling and ability for this bike to climb are awesome in its price range. Biggest downside is its smaller head tube thats doesn't let it take a lefty or headshock. This bike is light and a great value. A great entry level mtb

Strengths: Best value in its price range, Double wall Rims, Love the Titanium color, takes a beating well with no funny noises afterwards
Weaknesses: stock saddle is painfull, troublesome front derailuer (doesn't like the large chainring), Unsealed hubs (LBS said to avoid excessive water crossings aka submerging the wheels), cheap chainring rivited together so no bashgaurd
Bottom Line:
In this price range most of the bikes have the same basic components were one spends more on a better fork they lack somewhere else. This bike did stand out as feeling light and easy to control, infact it actually felt lighter than the higher priced F6. The derailuers have held up well and still shift efficiently (chain only poped off once under hard riding conditions). The stock fork has worked out well,at 250lbs I was only able to bottom it out once on a rather hard 2ft landing (the Rock Shox Dart 1-2 forks available on my other test rides felt very soft and bottomed out easily even after setting sag). Overall this is a tough bike and besides upgrading parts here and there as they break I see no reason to buy a more expensive hardtail, unless I was looking into competitive racing or excessive climbing were weight would become an issue.
