Strengths:    This bike looks mean and lives up to its image. I've been riding single track for years and telling my wife all of the stories. I decided it was time to bring her into the experience. You have to take into account the longer wheelbase but other than that this thing is FULLY capable of riding wherever you want to take it. We actually raced it last year at a local XC race and it was a blast. If you are considering this bike you MUST talk to Alex at MTBTandems.com. He knows his way around a tandem and can coach you into the right product based on what you want out of your bike. In my opinion you can do no better than this bike if you want performance.

Weaknesses:    Like other owners, I have found the rear tire to be a close fit and not much room for more than a 2.3. Only one frame size so the captain really needs to make sure he can straddle this thing. It is a close call for me and I am 5'10'.

Bottom Line:
You will spend half of your time on the trail riding and the other half answering questions about this bike. I am super happy with it and nobody gets dropped on the trail :-). As a captain, you will have to get used to calling out obstacles, drops, etc. because the stoker will not be able to see what it coming. This has been a great drill for improving our communication skills.

Strengths:    Stiff, handles great for a tandem, rear suspension really helps with traction during the climb and with keeping the stoker happy during the descents. Our previous tandem relied on a suspension seatpost, which tended to launch the stoker. Also, Ellesworth's customer support is great.

Weaknesses:    Only 1 size available.

Bottom Line:
This is a great bike. It handles well (for a tandem), and has taken everything we have thrown at it. A stiff fork and good strong brakes are a must if you intend to ride single track. Pair that with the Witness frame and you will surprise yourself with what you can ride. If you are thinking of getting a full suspension tandem, you can't go wrong with the Ellesworth.

Strengths:    Stiff & Light (By Tandem Standards). Steers & Tracks quite well for such a long bike. WAY more stable & confidence inspiring than the KHS we had, and SEEMS stiffer than the Ventana. Bike is quite capable, have not been limited on what we can ride by the BIKE. Anodized finish looks good & is holding up well. In general, bike has a BIG, MEAN look & feel to it. Some of the Best bike $ we've ever spent. Basic but solid design, stiffness is maximized by the diagonal tube placement. Welds look great. Stoker gives rave reviews for rear suspension action & "plush-ness". LONG stoker top tube, lots of space for larger stokers.

Weaknesses:    One size probably does NOT fit all. Clearance limited in rear triangle from using the Truth rear suspension, some may want to be able to run tires > 2.3". Relatively high standover height limits fork selection by crown height.

Bottom Line:
A great bike **IF** you can fit on it. (the capitan better have a 34" or more inseam....) Good stoker comfort & space. Begs to be ridden hard on singletrack. If you want to ride dirt roads, this is overkill.

Strengths:    OK- I have to confess I got this as a wedding gift that we asked for. Best gift we ever got. We wanted this bike because we were able to test ride it and it fit us. We love this bike because it does everything we ask of it and more. It is stiff, tough, fast, fun and very nice to look at. it also fits a wide range of rider sizes.

Weaknesses:    I wish we could ride it more! I am said that they chose to go to an air shock- we have a coil because it is a requirement with that much weight. The rear chain stay is too narrow to take anything bigger than a 2.3 tire- a mistake on such a big bike. I actaully talked to Mr Ellsworth about this.

Bottom Line:
This bike is a ton of fun, loads of laughs and a great way to ride with my wife. Do not kid yourself- if you can ride it we can ride it. We can climb steeper stuff then a single bike and we can descend steeper stuff. We just cant wheelie drop or clear anything more than about 12-18 inches because we get caught on the drive chain between stoker and capitan. Get yourself a single crown fork if you want to make any switch backs and learn how to track stand!

The goal of riding a tandem is to not kill your stoker, the next goal is to have a ton of fun and finally, go big.

It is a pricey bike I know but has added so much to our lives!
