Date Reviewed: May 8, 2009
Favorite Trail:The Octopus, Gooseberry
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Price Paid: $500.00
Purchased At:Used private sale
Strengths:Bought it a year old with some upgrades. I've had it for four years and she is still going strong. The frame is all that is left from when I bought it. It's the aluminum frame but has held up just fine for my riding- some craziness but nothing too huge.
Weaknesses:Bent the isis bb quickly. Not a huge fan of disc brakes.
The frame set up didn't allow me to use the inner bash guard for my MDS sprocket with the KHE freecoaster hub.
Bike Setup:KHE 11t Geisha disc freecoaster, sun rims rhinolites, MZ Comp, Ody MDS 25t sprocket, Easton monkey bars, disc brakes front and back, Shadow conspiracy seat, SNAFU pedals, Eastern electron cranks.
Bottom Line:It's been a great bike to me. I use it for commuting, street/park, singletrack, bar transportation.

It's a good affordable bike.

Weaknesses:not-so-good fork, heavy and leaks on first ride..poor wheelset, bend a bit by some bunny hops..saddle is a must-replaced
Similar Products Used:s-works m5, united dominate

Bottom Line:good value-for-money bike...many wow factor
wider handlebar wud give more stability, but stock is ok.
better fork needed for weekend trail, stock is ok for commuter.
wheelset is a bit mess, try to give some extra cash on better rims and tyres..

Favorite Trail:dirt jumps down the street
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $735.00
Purchased At:all the right gears
Strengths:awesome bike, great frame, a little heavy but great geo, amazing part spec considering the price. single speed is great, and perfect gear ratio for me to.brakes are great quaiity, forks are pretty good, only a little heavy, and the 2008 paintjob is amazing!!!!

Weaknesses:i've heard the rims bend pretty easy, and the tires weight as much as a fright train. get some swalbe table tops, or kenda small block 8's and it'll be fine.

Similar Products Used:norco wolverine, norco rival, norco havoc, p2 crmo
Bike Setup:2008 stock setup, soon to have swalbe table top tires, atomlab lite rims, and next year to save a little weight i might get some odessy wombolt cranks.

Bottom Line:great bike, buy it, but make sure that the cost of new rims are in your budget becuz its a guarranty that they will bend to the point u cant ride it.so amke room for 100-200$ for some upgrades overtime and it'll be perfect! the geo is so awesome i did my first wheelie ever first try!! pretty long to, i'd have to say 20ft. and on the jumps it handles even better, i've been dirtjumping for about a month almost now and can already do a no footer, one hander, tristar, and working on a few others all becuz this bike makes everything i try so effortless. overall buy this bike now!!!! but be sure to have 200$ tucked away for future necessary upgrades like rims.this bike hanles and performs as well as a bike worth twice as much. and the frame is a bombproof tank that can take anything, and the steel also absorbs more vibrations than aluminum.i'll post back in a few months to see if the rims lived up to there less than outstanding reputation.

Strengths:The bike itself and the price.
Weaknesses:The only thing I can think of is when ever I land a big drop, my ass hits the back tire. Its my fault, so its not really a weakness.
Similar Products Used:GT Moto, Azonic Steelhead, Specialized P.2, Cannondale chase 3
Bike Setup:Neon green lizard skin grips and a tan odyssey seat.
Bottom Line:Okay, I got this bike yesterday and have only ridden it for about four hours. They were a really hard four hours though. I took 5-6 ft. drops, 8-9 ft. gaps, and it handled them perfectly. No flex, NO NOTHING. I love this freakin thing. This is actually my first singlespeed mountain bike. I really don't want to go back to gears. It has perfect gearing for me, so its perfect in general.

Bottom Line:EXPERIENCE: PROGRESSIVE HARDTAIL

When it comes to pushing boundaries, some riders prefer to push in completely new and different directions--not just further in an established direction. Trying new terrains, blending different styles, and expanding the collection of tricks are all primary motivators to this crowd of idolized misfits. Whether riding streets, in skate parks, at the dirt jumps, hardtail freeride, or urban assault, the common needs are simple: tough bikes, built to be stable and predictable. No fluff. No sparkly stuff. Just bomb-proof rides that mix advanced technology with top-shelf materials--all standard features of any P-series bike. The P.1 can ride it all, but is most at home on the dirt, whether jumping or freeriding hardtail-style.
100% Cr-Mo frame designed for 24" rear/26" front wheels, double butted and manipulated TT/DT, internally relieved head tube with weld on rotor plate, 6mm offset rear triangle with 3D forged horizontal drop outs with disc mount (replaceable alloy der. hanger included)
Marzocchi Dirt Jam Pro, 100mm "Disc" model, SSV damping, 1-peice mag. lower, Cr-Mo steer & stanchions, cold forged alloy crown, coil spring with air assist
Powerful Avid BB5, mechanical disc brakes with 160mm Roundagon rotor

So far everything is holding up just fine, and in the future I plan to upgrade the rims. I'm doing 5 stair 180's, 360's in the bowls at the skate park, and the bike is just taking all the abuse. Frame is beefy and seeminly bombproof, components are so so, but for the price who gives a crap. Strengths:Love the frame geomtry, when I was looking to buy an Urban/DJ bike I tried many others but the P1 felt best.
Weaknesses:Hayes cable brakes are crap, Marzocchi MZ forks are crap for downhill, ok for Urban. The Truvativ BB crapped out within a few months. The frame near the bottom sometimes makes a clunking sound when the cranks are turned, I have been told that this happens for someone else who has the P3 model.
Similar Products Used:GT Chucker, Avanti Manic/ Hotdog - have only test rode these
Bike Setup:Stock except with Truvativ Bash Guard, Truvativ Gigapipe DH bottom bracket, will be replacing the brakes with Hydros and will be replacing the forks with Z1s
Bottom Line:I love this bike, it is plenty of fun to ride, very easy handling and it isn't heavy like a lot of the cromo DJ bikes. There is a bit of a component mix on the bike with some good and some crap components, but these will be replaced. Overall a very good bike for what you get and for an excellent price suited to various styles of riding.
And its a singlespeed!!

Purchased At:beaver sports
Strengths:Single gear is great for the streets, it saves weight and it’s about perfect for doing manuals. The frame is extremely strong and fairly light.
Weaknesses:Stock back break sucks ass, and I wish it came stock with street tiers such as the maxis hookworm.
Bike Setup:Stock except: avid front break, chain ring and an upgraded chain tensioner.
Bottom Line:This bike rules, I jump stairs all the time do manuals like no other and just tear up the street, for the price its a great urban assault bike.

Strengths:in main review
Weaknesses:in main review
Similar Products Used:2003 p1, 2004 p2
Bike Setup:Specialized 2004 P1, still completely stock
Bottom Line:This bike is awesome. It manuals very easy and is the most maneuverable bike I have ever ridden. I have done 5 foot drops to flat no problem. Ignore the review of the guy who says everything is messed up, I have beat the sh*t out of this bike for several months, and though I am not the most insane rider, I do many drops, jumps, etc. and the bike is not showing any unnatural wear on it. The stock brake is terrible and unless you ride only street, you will most likely get pretty f*cked up on steep trails with only a bad rear brake. This bike handles very well in roots and I repeat, it is very maneuverable.

Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $630.00
Purchased At:2 world 1 planet
Strengths:price and marketing
Weaknesses:first day Disc fell off, second day disc bracket fell off, third day head set locked up. Bike returned to store where frame and fork was replaced. Two days later returned to store after fork steering tube bent after head set locking up. Got money back and dealer was cool about it. Can't say the same about Specialized or fork manufacturer.
Bottom Line:The bike is not meant for any hard use. One could get seriously injured with this fork set up. Specialized said the problem was not the bike but the forks. Fork rep said a upgrade was available for a price.
