Date Reviewed: June 10, 2009
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $1160.00
Purchased At:The Bike Doctor
Strengths:2008 model. Super heavy duty frame, most components (forks, brakes, gears, etc) very nice for the price of this complete bike. This thing is bombproof; no flexing, and it jumps like a champ.
Weaknesses:Weight. The medium frame is listed at 35 lbs, and I ride an XL, so its gotta be sitting close to 40 lbs. That seems pretty heavy for a hardtail. Seat is noisy. The front forks started leaking after less than a year.
Bike Setup:stock
Bottom Line:I friggin' love this bike. Granted, I don't have much to compare it to. This is my first "real" mountain bike and it has performed beautifully. It took a little while to get used to the weight, but that just helps you build strength. Now, it doesn't bother me at all, and its nice to have that extra weight when I'm bombing downhill. I was looking at similarly priced full suspension bikes, but you really get lousy components. This has Marzocchi 55r forks, which are pretty nice for the price, Shimano hydraulic disc brakes, Shimano shifters and deraileur, Cane Creek headset, etc. Besides the shocks leaking after less than a year, all the components have worked great. Plus, if you actually ride uphill before you bomb, this hardtail climbs pretty darn well. I swear you won't be disappointed with this bike.

Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $1140.00
Purchased At:1140 CDN in April 20
Strengths:Great value, solid frame, nice geometry for technical riding, looks great. Kenda Nevegal Stick-E tires roll nice and have awesome grip on bedrock but sidewalls are a bit thin so i'm using a downhill tube on the rear tire.
Weaknesses:Hussefelt cranks can be a bit troublesome but they're under warranty for 2 years. Mine wouldn't stay tight and eventually wore the spline so were replaced under warranty (this is not uncommon - they say its because they weren't torqued properly, i over torqued them and they still wouldn't stay tight). Handlebars look solid but bend fairly easily.
Similar Products Used:Devinci Hucker, Kona Cyclone, GT, Brodie.
Bike Setup:Stock 2007 model. Identical to 2009 model but Hayes 9 hydro 8" brakes and the 2009 model has an additional gusset at the seat post-rear triangle. Machined aluminum 3/16" bash ring. ODI lock-on grips. Shimano clipless pedals.
Bottom Line:Really happy with this purchase! About 100 rides in the past 2 years on this bike. Really impressed and feels really solid except for the warranty replacement on the cranks but that was a simple process to get new ones. Definitely recommend this bike to anyone doing freeriding or hardcore xc riding. I'm considering buying a second one even though i don't need it!

Favorite Trail:Mont-Royal, Bromont
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $1000.00
Purchased At:Castonguay Cycles
Strengths:*The frame is solid like rock and almost as heavy.
*The Marz 55r are really plush with 140 to 160mm of travel.
*The overal feel of the bike is great.
*7 inch Shimano M485 hydros are OKAY.
*Very forgiving, and I say very.
*Can do anything with it.
Weaknesses:*My Sasquatch had defective brakes, but my LBS replaced them for free.
*The seat is horrible.
*This bike has almost no weaknesses but its a bit heavy, so uphill is harder.
Similar Products Used:Ironhorse (no name bike), Specialized Hardrock, and Rockhopper, Norco Wolverine
Bike Setup:*2008 Brown colour
*Stock, but plan on changing the seat soon.
Bottom Line:If you want to do anything with a hardtail then this is your bike. For the newbie riders out there this bike is easy to ride and very forgiving, in such a way that mistakes made while jumping or downhiling with this bike are corrected by themself. Compared to similarly priced bikes, this Norco is well garnished. If there is one thing that I could say to help you consider buying this bike is that its invicible. So go up to your mom, bend slightly, look her directly in the eyes, display the puppy dog face and tell her:I love you, I want a Norco Sasquatch.

Price Paid: $50.00
Purchased At:Pinkbike
Strengths:Great stiffness in this frame.
Disc brake brace, so no frame snapping.
Strong, like a tank.
Awesome decals for the 2005 model and up.
Weaknesses:A little on the heavy side.
Derailleur hanger came bent.. but it was used, so what can you expect.
No V-Brake posts (For those who like V-Brakes, I use disc)
Seatclamp isn't the best.
Similar Products Used:2006 Sasquatch

2005 Cannondale Chase 3
Bike Setup:2005 Sasquatch frame
DX32/Shimano hub wheelset with 2.6/2.3 Stouts.
2007 Marzocchi All Mountain 2.
Primo BMX Bottom Bracket with OLD Specialized cranks.
Hayes Nine brakes
Singlespeed setup
Try-All bars/stem (Short 75mm stem, though long for lots of people, I'm 6' tall)
Bottom Line:The Sasquatch, be it frame only, or a complete, is a great bike for someone who isn't a weight weenie.

It's designed to get the crap kicked out of it and keep going strong.

The Norco shore hardtails are one of the nicer bikes out there, though I wouldn't pay the price for a brand new one, a used one is just as good. I am a great bargainer though, I don't believe most of the bikes out there are worth their full retail prices. Buy a last years model on clearance, that's your best bet.

Bike Setup:factory spec
Bottom Line:to be fair i dont have much to compare this bike to so take this review for whatever its worth

iv had the bike (05 model second hand) for a few days now and im LOVING it! made the mistake of gettin a small when really i needed a medium might have to get a new frame for that reason alone. the brakes stop you fast as you want so long as the terrain provodes traction. the suspension is plenty for my needs as a first time freerider.

gears are a bit dodgy (sometimes change without being told to!) but im sure this is nothing a servicing wouldnt sort out, unsurprising on a second hand bike to be honest. all in all i would certainly recomend this bike, but bear in mind im no expert and i havent had it very long! = ]

Strengths:Excellent geometry for urban or offroad assault. Very burly frame, but still flexes properly in all the right spots.
Weaknesses:none come to mind.
Similar Products Used:Devinci Hucker, Brodie Fury
Bike Setup:'04 Sasquatch frame (small) w/Truvativ Stylo cranks, GXP BB, 32T chainring/bash, '06 Marzocchi DJ3 20mm thru-axle, Mavic EX325 front wheel, Mavic EX729 rear wheel, 20T rear cog, Answer Alumilite2 bars, DMR Headstock stem
Bottom Line:This is the best hardtail frame I've ever ridden, hands down. The Devinci frames are excellent too, but they're overly bolstered and rigid, whereas the Sasquatch frame has the proper amount of flex. Excellent for urban assault and takes 4 ft drops to flat all day long. Geometry is very stable railing technical singletrack and tracks very nicely.

Favorite Trail:Sigh...I miss out west
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $75.00
Purchased At:Pinkbike
Strengths:Great frame, strong with extra gussets, good welds, extra ring around the headtube and good paint job
Weaknesses:Heavy, but that's what you get with a freeride frame
Similar Products Used:2001 Brodie Fury
Bike Setup:Non-stock bike
Bottom Line:Okay...I only bought the frame on Pinkbike, then built it up, so it's not a stock bike. But the frame is an awesome one, it's strong for all the riding in Ontario (read: ALL MOUNTAIN ONLY...no mountains, just molehills), but still can be built up to be light for all mountain or even hard XC. This bike is built for freeride, it's strong. This frame did a 40 foot road gap in BC, so all y'all who complain aboot it just don't have good flow or wasn't tuned right (see MBUK issue). This frame is the same for all models of Norco hardtail freeride bikes (except 06 Rampage and Torrents), so you know it's a great frame.

Strengths:Nice lightweight, balanced, great tires (nevegal), strong, decent brakes, not bad fork.
Weaknesses:The seat (too hard on long rides)
Truvative cranks (haven't had a problem yet but they are prone to loosening and the inner splines wearing out)
Similar Products Used:Piece of crap Jeep Comanche
Bike Setup:Stock 06 except for Kona DJ seat
Bottom Line:Basically, this bike will take anything from DJ to light downhill/freeride and respond well. I bought this bike because I ran out of replacement parts for the 'piece' and was tired of being stranded on the trail because of broken parts. The Sasquatch will also climb nice, allowing you to ride it XC if you want. I've not been restricted to any of the riding I've done, which is XC, small DJ, technical single track, light freeride, and some rocky downhill. (requires you to bob and weave around rocks as they will make the hardtail bounce insanely, obvious though being a hardtail :). This bike has also brought up my confidence and I'm not scared that it will fold beneath me. Also, the derailleur has not been tuned up yet; still performing flawless even after a few hits! You will not regret getting it.

Price Paid: $1200.00

Strengths:The fork is great, brakes are amazing, wheels are strong, tires grip like crazy, everything else is is strong, best part is the frame, beefiest thing ive ever seen, i love it. Every part that could be improved strenght(?) wise has been for '07 and it shows.
Weaknesses:stock seat is a pain in the ass, and the pedals wear down fast
Similar Products Used:specialized hardrock, norco 125
Bike Setup:everythings stock except a new seat, animal pedals and fitbikeco. grips.
Bottom Line:The bike is amazing to ride. its always fun to watch my friends almost fly off the bike cuzza the hfx 9's. The seat is kinda uncomfortable but thats easily fixed with a new one. the bike is the strongest one ever ridden. You could run right into a tree head on (like ive done many times) and the bikes fine. Bottom line is it'll take everything you can throw at it and it'll come out looking better than u everytime. Bit heavy for street tho, but hey, builds up the muscle mass that way. For 1200$ can. its worth every penny.

Strengths:fork DROP OFF IV(awsome when set up right),brakes HFX9(powerfull+reliable),rimsMX22(sorta heavy but strong),frame
Weaknesses:drive train :had to replace cranks, bottom braket and rear derailleur.
cranks(truvative ruktion) are weak and will bend within 6 months, lack of a 20mm axle is dissapointing.
Similar Products Used:stp0,specailized p2
Bike Setup:06 norco sasquatch M.upgrades:truvative huselfelt cranks,howitzer bottom bracket,shimano deore rear derailleur,maxxis minion front,giant lock on grips,BBB pedals(they r awsome)
Bottom Line:i've had this bike for a year now ,6 months through i started hating this bike because of all the mechanical problems i had:bent the cranks, broke the bottom bracket, snapped the rear derailleur. But after i replaced all the parts and made a couple of upgrades this bike now rides like a dream,it powers down the downhills ,flies of the jumps ,and drops the big drops.the frame inspires a lot of confidence as it is very forgiving (i have cased many a jump and havnt felt anything yet),is really roomy yet is easily flickable.
the thing i really love about this bike is that it is very versatile, I can do DH,freeride, jumps and street(YES! EVEN STREET) .
but DH is where the sasquatch is most at home,it floats over the rock gardens and corners like a dream .
All in all the sasquatch has a lot of potential and with the right upgrades can make an excellent bike .but for 1500$ you would expect better parts (cranks,tyres,20mmaxle for example)

Strengths:Strong, solid, gives confidence, NOT heavy (mine is 14.7kg with the upgrades), handles anyhting you do with it, HARDTAIL PRIDE, stock components are good (Hayes9 and Drop off IV rox!)
Weaknesses:Too sexxxy!
Similar Products Used:-
Bike Setup:'06 Saski+XT casette, XT chain, Deore rear der, Axiom telescopic seat post, WTB Power V, Wellgo platform pedals, Pedros Lock-on, Maxxis Bling-Bling, Lizard skins...
Bottom Line:Well, the size is S-M, but it's quite large (i'm 180 cm).
It has the BIG BIKE feeling, but easily flickable.
Light enough on uphills, but heavy enough on descents.
Always stable, and leading you in the air (saved my ass on a not too lucky drop). I rode 7 months on a fully, and just a few times got out on my IH Maverick Comp, so i didn't really know how is it to ride a HT in the wild. I didn't feel bumps at all, NOTHING! So i really don't know then why i need a rear shock... Today i rode mostly wicked technical singletracks, and the marz drop off IV just ate it up all!
The frame is so solid, it didn't give a damn, what i do,
it was kidstuff for it...Great all-arounder, and of course,
it's gorgeous!

Strengths:Frame very strong
Marz Drop Off IV fork (air)
Hayes HFX9 hydralics 8" rotors stock
Stock dual ring setup for all around riding
Capable Shimano drive train, not that great not bad either
Kenda Nevegal tires - excellent for tough conditions, roll slow on street.
Black frame - looks mean
Weaknesses:Long cage deraileur, which makes it easier to bend hanger
Heavy wheels set
Bad stock SPG XC type seat and cheap seat post easy to bend
Stock black Hayes pads

Shifting to the low ring gear off the front (closest to the frame) causes the chain to rub against the 2.35 Nevegal rear tire very slightly. Doesn't look like Norco took into account a dual ring setup and may want users to run single ring in the front.
Bike Setup:Stock, except for upgraded seatpost and seat, and chainstay protector.
Bottom Line:An excellent choice for free-riding hard tail with decent brakes and drive train components. Very minor upgrades needed to complete the bike.

if you have a budget or are looking to buy a bike like this, ide say stick with the sasquach. a few of my mates have maniks and they feel crap to ride compared to mine also the maniks have tripples which kills a lot of possible tricks. its probably the best value for money around. so buy one

Weaknesses:The wheels have buckels, the forks blew (dampener) and were twisted from factory, the crank bash guard (polycarbonate) shattered from no abuse. I havent given this bike any real thrashing but if this is an indicator of Norcos part lists.... what can i say????

Forks came half full and the dampener completely opened so it was like manik spingy!!

the SDG seat is Sh!t, need to change that, completely falling apart from just normal riding wear!

Bottom Line:I have sent a letter outlining my overall dislike of this bike to Norco Canada and i havent had any feedback, i have detailed every problem to date and Norco Australia just doesnt work whatsoever!!!! Warranty isnt worth it, the lag time puts you out months!!!
I do like the frame but the options were buy the bike whole then upgrade the parts, but i cannot afford it at this time.... too costly! should have an option to just buy the frame only!!!!

Other than that i dont know how the other guys got away with no probs to date, but i have had my fair share and i doubt that i will ever buy a full norco bike ever again, just the frame for sure!!!

Strengths:This bike is tops, it takes everything ive thrown at it, the brakes are awsomoe and stop you suddently even when travelling at 100kms!, the bash plate, handlebars, rims(altough i replaced them to triple walls), Design, Suspension and the geometry.
Weaknesses:The Kenda tyres were chewed up a little easily so replaced them with michellin 2.5's instead of the 2.35's. It struggled to fit the 2.5s but managedFrame. A little heavy and the rims couldnt stand the big drops and jumps i gave it.

Strengths:Well first of All, this is one incredably strong frame i've done tones off abuse and she's still running, Drops to flats, toned Dj's and some street riding,
Weaknesses:The pedals suck and they dont have replacable pins, the Marzocchi Dj 3 fork have very slow rebound damping and has no external rebound ajustments, they are also very heavy around 7 pounds I belive crazy for a fork. i've had some tire clearence problems but thats because i have 2.6 tires

Favorite Trail:The City.
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $800.00
Strengths:First, the frame, it cannot be destroyed. A mack truck would rather run into the grand canyon than the sasquatch frame. The shocks, marzocchi 4 drop off's, they're just solid. They can take abuse, and can be tuned pretty hard. The DISC BRAKES. Mother of mercy, 8" discs, they're lethal and it takes getting used to, but in the end they are a powerful asset. Other Strengths: Really everything.
Weaknesses:The only weakness I found on this bike was the little plastic clamp that holds the front brake line to the forks..I broke it on the first day just doing some bunnyhops...but a little ducktape fixed that. No other weaknesses.
Similar Products Used:Norco Manik, Evolve, 4Hundred. (Evolve and 4hun are both trials oriented.)
Bike Setup:Stock.
Bottom Line:If you want a bike that will let you dip your fingers into street/trials/dirt-jumping/downhill this is it. Some people say it's weak for street..they'd be wrong. It merely requires some slightly different technique, but it won't let you down. As soon as you get used to its weight and size, the sasquatch can be quite an accomplished street bike.

Street is really what I ride. I chose the sasquatch because I am HARD on equipment and this bike can hold together. I also ride to school everyday on it which is a 10k trek. It's not really a big deal..I haven't even thrown street tires on it, I still have the stock ones. The bottom line is..this bike is so unbelievably solid you can't be dissapointed. And if you want to make it stronger for street or trials or anything else..it's easily customizable. The sasquatch is the best all-rounder around in my opinion. And for the money..you can't find better.

Bottom Line:This bike will do everything you could realistically want to do on a hard tail. it's home is free riding. you can push its limits all you want. it does well in XC all things considered (although it is a little heavy and the forks will eat up a lot of your sprinting power). it is also very a competent street bike, although it can feel a little heavy and bulky for some of the trials type stuff. also good dj bike. it's my only vehicle, so it makes a good daily rider. it is a great all around yet very tough biike. best bike for its money and class
