Strengths: Great frame
Weaknesses: none
Bottom Line:
I like this frame. It's light enough given it's intended use and bombproof construction. I don't know about the bike with the stock specs, but the frame is working for me. I ride it for shuttle runs or days at a bike park. It handles well enough for skinnies and teeter totters and holds up for drops. Not real efficient for climbing with the setup I have.
Anyone looking for an inexpensive hardtail freeride bike would be well served by this frame. Build it with your own parts.
Bike Setup: 2 yr old Frame purchased from Brodie. I stripped another bike and built the Hellion from it's parts. Avid Juicy 7s, hone cranks, x9/xt drivetrain, blackspire chain guide, Revelation coil u-turn(140mm), mavic wheels, kenda nevegal 2.1
Strengths: Frame, handlebars, tires, bump absorption is good for a hardtail
Weaknesses: brakes, a tad overpriced
Bottom Line:
A good DJ and light freeride bike. Eats up bumps surprisingly well for a hardtail. The frame is sturdy and it can take some abuse. Good bike for a beginning freerider.
Strengths: the frame rocks, brakes uhh thats it lol
Weaknesses: omg where do i start im 12 so the splice kinda dosent work for me but getting a pike ( maybe somthing else) for my b day uhh the tires stunk got new ones the shifter sucks i have to get it tuned up every week end for god sackes getting me so pissed
Bottom Line:
The hellion is a preety nice bike but for begginers cuz if u dirtjump with it dont try to bail lol the frame rocks im gonna keep it and the braks just becarful with the discs uhh the rest becarful and i broke my shifter .
if u get it the frame is gonna please you.Good for begginers but the fork is stiff for kids
Weaknesses: a lot, I dont even know where to start. I paid $900 for it, and I swear I spent another at least $500 fixing. The rear deraillers broke 2 times in a year, I had to get new tires, the fork got really loose, the LBS couldn't fix it so I had to send it to the factory (got it fixed for free though) Now my cranks been coming loose so badly - it comes loose once in 10 minutes. I think the fork's coming loose again now.
Bottom Line:
I was at first happy with this solid bike, but it breaks down really easily if you are one of those people who fall a lot, and fall every time you go riding. I think there is something wrong with the angles of the frame.
Weaknesses: -the crank wabbles cuz the bb cup ring keeps come loss -small things, like cheap paddles, grip, bar, stem and everything you can think of, cheap no names, but they work fine. -THE FORK! Manitou is as bad as fork gets.. 2nd biggest complain i have(first is the wabbling crank..
Bottom Line:
It's a good beginning bike, very good for the price, don't bother by norco sas or kona stuff for like 1200 CAD, cuz this bike is just as good for 1/3 of the price from second hand
Im lookin for a new bike, ive checked out my LBSs, and out of the ones they have there, ive seen a few i liked. Now i just want a few more opinions on the components. I want it fo Read More »
