4.67/5 (3 Reviews)
MSRP : $719.00

Product Description

The Pilot Rock frame offers 5.5" of all mountain travel, ready for the rock gardens and drops of it's namesake trail. But don't de fooled, it is equally adept on undulating single track and long downhill runs. Truly a great all around frame.

Strengths:    great price, strong frame, great service, build to suit, climbs good for 6" of travel,

Weaknesses:    graphics might be nice.

Bottom Line:
Harvey builds bikes for real people; with realistic budgets. You will notice the bikes are named after real trails in western north carolina. If you know these trails then you know what these bikes are made to do. Harvey doesn't build a bike named main st; and he doesn't build one called the red bull rampage. If you ride trails in this area then you are going to pedal up steep climbs full of rocks; roots; and fallen trees. and then you have to be able to decend steep techical rooty downhills full of rock gardens; drops; waterbars; and tight twisting trails. This area truly calls for a do all trail bike; I know there is no such thing. So until there is such a beast there will have to be compromises; and this bike totally pulls it off. Does it climb as well as my 28 lb hollowpoints did? NO! but it does now ( I'm running a special this month on 2 slightly fractured hollowpoint frames). And does it downhill as well as my buddies ellsworth dare? NO! But I don't need to take a pack mule to get it to the top either. This is a great bike at a great price. That will climb any where you want to go without sucking every bit of energy out of you; And decend anything you want to go down with confidence. The customer service is awsome!!!! Harvey is a great guy that is out to fit the right bike to the rider. If you have unlimited cash and a understanding spouse buy a $4000 santa cruz nomad then give me a call we'll go for a ride some time. You pick the trail. After all theres no where I can't go.

Strengths:    The geometry makes it climb excellent!!! Goes downhill beautifully! Very smooth. Absolutely love this frame!

Weaknesses:    Only comes in black paint, which shows makes scratches VERY visible. No logo, so the frame looks kinda bare.

Bottom Line:
Great price for a frame with this geometry!

Strengths:    Great four bar rear suspension with reasonable weight for 5.5 inches of travel. The Pisgah trails are almost all long steep climbs with technical drops. This bike takes it all on.

Weaknesses:    A great product for this type of riding.Noweaknesses!!This catagory is not for weaney weight race bikes.

Bottom Line:
I'm a46 yo physical therapist who weighs 195lbs. This bike holds me together well on 4-5 hour hard technicqal rides.IT probably compares well to a Heckler with better rear suspension.
