$1500.00 | | Purchased At: | Shilo Bicycles | | Strengths: | Durable, Stands up to severe abuse. Rear shock is nice. Huge, durable tires. | | Weaknesses: | The front forks are ok for beginner, light use. Non adjustability severely limits style. Brakes are also a weaker point, they handle well for general XC, but All Mountain/Down hill they don't work all that well. | | Similar Products Used: | Trek 4300 Hard Tail | | Bike Setup: | Haro X2 Stock | | Bottom Line: | I bought this bike about 6 months after release as a beginner wanting to lose some fat (dropped to 225lbs from 265). I absolutly love this bike due to it being a beefy, durable bike that can and will stand up to huge amounts of abuse. Now that I am crossing over to All Mountain riding I am upgrading the brakes and the forks. This is an awesome introductory bike, as are most of the Haro Xn class bikes, with a few tweaks or upgrades the bike can be a contender everywhere just short of going Pro. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$820.00 | | Purchased At: | Maine Sport | | Strengths: | All around bike, Super strong frame, good enough components to get you started | | Weaknesses: | Jack of all trades master of none. A bit heavy for XC, not enough front suspension for downhill. Front fork is inadequate for the potential of the frame. I toasted the bottom bracket within a month. Rear triangle a bit narrow for a 2.35" tire. | | Similar Products Used: | Nothing.... First bike | | Bike Setup: | New BB, borrowed Hayes Juicy 7 front brake, clipless pedals, lots of tires and hangers..... | | Bottom Line: | This bike has been awesome for starting out mountain biking. I bought it up in Maine and started out as a beginner, which means that I fell.... a lot... Short of the occasional bent derailleur hanger the bike was bulletproof. As I got more confident on the bike and started riding faster and more technical terrain the bike kept up. The weakest link on the bike is the front fork which bobs a lot while standing and doesn't have much travel or adjustment. Recently I've gotten into a bit of downhill for which the fork is completely insufficient.
All in all the bike has been amazing starter, I haven't taken it easy on the bike and it still works fine. I'm now getting to a point in my riding where I want to get more style-specific bikes (Turner DHR!!) but I can't forsee getting rid of this bike for just all around riding. If you're looking to get into mountain biking on a budget and you don't know exactly what you want to get into, buy this bike! When you can outride this bike you'll know exactly what you want from your ride and then you can spend more money. Enjoy! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$600.00 | | Purchased At: | Ebay | | Strengths: | Burly strong frame, 'ok' rear shock on the '04 (Fox Vanilla R). IMO no other FS bike in the $600 price range can touch it (unless you go used). Haro makes quality bikes & is underrated in the mtb world. Adjustable 5"~6" rear travel. 8" front rotor is nice. | | Weaknesses: | Weight. Stock the weight is about 37 lbs = sluggish uphill, but I could stand to get stronger & lose weight myself so it's not that big a deal. Front fork needs to go ASAP. Wheels could be upgraded, but mine have held up well considering I weigh 220 lb & am hard on the bike. Brakes are ok at best. Haro's run big in size, so even the small has a high standover & I'm 5'10". Generally low resale value. | | Similar Products Used: | n/a | | Bike Setup: | 04 Haro X2 - size small | | Bottom Line: | Good entry level freeride/all mountain trail bike. For the price it's hard to beat espescially if you want a strong bike for heavy abuse. W/ a few changes (i.e. fork, rear shock, wheelset) the bike could be stellar. Pretty versatile bike too, I've seen a couple X2's running Jr T's, Shermans, Pikes etc. I really like the way this bike handles rocky, loose descent's...really soaks up the bumps. Overall I'm really happy with this bike. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$1000.00 | | Purchased At: | bicycle warehouse | | Strengths: | I ride an'05 Haro x2 and it can go through a beating, i've cased the crap out of it a couple times and i rolled away fine. it's frame is real nice and rear shock is tough too, the brakes are decent for being cable operated but who needs brakes anyway. iv'e pushed the bike past its limits and i can still jump any time i want without having to put it back together each time. It holds up real nice. | | Weaknesses: | The forks are allright, im sure that they would work great if the seals would hold some pressure, i blew them out on every landing, and after i endoed on a 15 foot jump they got a little tweaked but they are still usable. the rims could be a little nicer i seemed to have a problem with them bending alot. the derailleur hanger sucks....haro designed it to snap so that you would have to pay 12 fregin bucks to replace it, but other than that its great. | | Similar Products Used: | K2, mongoose, (the crappy sportmart bikes)this is the first real bike ive gotten | | Bike Setup: | stock for 2005 | | Bottom Line: | A nice freeride bike, i guess it would be a nice trail bike......but i dont fart around on trails.......thats for old peple. its a great bike at a nice price. it'll go through as much as you can, but i've graduated to the downhill class and im going to wirk towards a stab supreeme or a demo 9 | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

The X2 is a great bike for aggressive trail riding. I recomend this bike, or any Haro Extreme, to anyone who wants a tuff bike that can take abuse and dosn't cost a crapload. It may weight alot (38lbs) but it makes up for it in strenght. And you don't have to change everything, like I did, to enjoy this bike. just make a few minor changes... 1) get lock on grips! the stock grips spin on the bar, and nothing you do will stop this. 2) trim the bar; if you cant help wacking trees with the ends of the bar, remove a few cm. 3) use a six inch rotor up front; too much flex while turning causes the eight inch rotor to rub the pads. 4) get the shop to slow the fork's rebound; this will keep you from getting bucked off. 5) change the shock spring; if youre a lightweight, get a softer spring in the rear, otherwise its like a hardtail. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

The first thing that should be replaced is the stock EXR pro, It sucks, its not even worth doing anything to like changing the oil, changing the springs or getting air assist top caps, your just wasting your money!!! You can get a cheap dc fork for like 150 bucks at jenson usa (stance kingpin...they suck by the way) but if you have the cash go for a marzocchi junior t or any other quality fork, it will make a huge difference in the way the bike feels, my bike doesnt seem raked out at all. $800.00 | | Purchased At: | Tempe Bicycle | | Strengths: | Super strong frame, Adjustable travel, good component group for the money. | | Weaknesses: | The stock fork sucked, so I changed it. | | Similar Products Used: | A variety of hardtails(not really similar at all) | | Bike Setup: | Mostly Shimano Saint components, Marzocchi All Mountain SL fork. | | Bottom Line: | I am hell on bikes. I case landings, smack my drivetrain on rocks, and I dropped this bike off a small cliff once, oops. Still, the frame holds together. After cracking the LX derailer on a rock, then cracking a new XT derailer on another cased landing, I decided to use shimano saint components. Hopefully this drivetrain will handle the abuse like the frame. Still after all of the upgrades, I have a super bike for less than other bike brands with similar components.
I replaced the stock fork with a Marzocchi All Mountain SL. This fork is pretty much transformed this bike from good to great. The stock zokie was not a good compliment to the fox vanilla rear shock. It is adequate for agressive trail riding, but even 2 foot flat landing drops will take its toll after some time. Anything bigger and seals will go. Really that is the only problem with the bike when it is still stock. If you can replace the fork, the bike is pretty amazing.
Still, if you are looking for a good bike that will handle agressive trail riding, this is the best deal for the money. With all of my upgrades, this is easily a 5 on both scales. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

I'm a very heavy rider, so i was a little worried about the Fox Vanilla R shock, but i just upgraded to a stronger coil, and it's fantastic. i haven't noticed any bobbing while pedaling, and it's great on stairs and rock formations so far. This is my first time using disc brakes, and i love 'em. Now, of course I care more about the performance of the bike, than how it looks, but you gotta admit, it's got a beautiful design! But let me say again, the frame is awesome! It's my first time riding a Haro, and i'll definitely buy another one if the opportunity presents itself. | | Weaknesses: | The Marzocchi EXR Pro fork is a little too soft so far, but it hasn't bothered me to the point where i want an upgrade immediately... $1100.00 | | Purchased At: | kedai Ah Kit Air Putih Kuantan | | Strengths: | The rear suspension and the front fork, both at 6 inches really perform well. Maybe some would say Manitou Stance is too soft, but Hell yeah, going downhill, it churns up roots and rut and rocky terrain like butter.it really absorb drops to 11 foot i tried recently landing on flat ground. It did bottom up easily but the absorb was non shaking. So far no leakage yet but if it does then, Super t will be it. and, no cracks yet on the head tube. On this 05 Haro x2,i got the feeling that it can take 15foot drop easily..
| | Weaknesses: | Front fork too soft creating swaying feel when approaching slalom turns. Maybe the size of the bike is M, while im standing only 5'8' and weights 200pounds so i guess thats the factor, but im still finding the right tune for the rear shocks setting,or my body positioning upon taking those corners that might help a bit on the slalom course.Im still new user so im still finding that missing rythm.... | | Similar Products Used: | this is my first Full Suspension. tried a friends Santa Cruz Heckler and GT Ruckus. But Haro is better HEHEHE | | Bike Setup: | Stock, except for stem. Im using Truvativ Hussefelt 40mm to shorten the bike. And the rear disc is 7 incher for a better stopping power. | | Bottom Line: | The bike is best for jumping and freeriding. For Downhill purpose, the geometry isnt just right. Maybe a 180mm fork should change the character or, simply change the rear Rims to 24inch to get the geometry right.Brakes set up is superb for a mechanical type. even better than shimano hydraulics. Rims are fair, so far 7foot drop on concrete only loosen the spokes a bit,no harm. For anyone out there who wants an entry level freeride bike, Haro X2 05 shud be it. Ha Ha! | | Similar Products Used: | Nothing except my own K2 Flyin' Monkey & K2 Beast DH racers. | | Bike Setup: | '04 HARO Xtreme X2, '04 Marzocchi Z-150 SL Freeride fork, Mavic DeeMax wheelset, Hayes HFX-9 DH w/ 8" F&R, Panaracer Fire Mud Pro's, Ritchey pedals, San Marco Raceday seat, OURY grips. | | Bottom Line: | This has been a great bike for the money. It's been problem free the entire year. I ride 3 to 4 days a week, year 'round (2ooo+ miles a year) and so far nothing has failed on this bike. It weighs right @ 35 lbs. and is easily capable of big hits as well as cross-country, freeriding, cruising, etc. I will definitely consider another HARO later this year when I go shopping again.
Here's a "dirty" pic for you all:

$800.00 | | Purchased At: | Tempe Bicycle | | Strengths: | Great value, Fox vanilla rear shock is awesome! No bob. Handles well on tight singletrack, decent jumper and can handle 3-4 foot drop offs and challenging descents. | | Weaknesses: | Front Fork! This thing bobs like crazy when you try to hammer. Its really bad if you attack out of the saddle. The front disk brake rotor will tweak because thats what 8 inch mech brake rotors do. | | Similar Products Used: | Just my old specialized hardtail. | | Bike Setup: | XT Rear derailer, XT chain and LX cassette upgrade (I crunched the rear LX derailer on a jump and the XT was all they had in stock so I ended up with a better derailer). Crank brothers mallet C pedals, everything else is stock. | | Bottom Line: | This bike is a super value but the front fork is not so hot. It bobs terribly when you drop the hammer. It will even bob when you are seated if you pedal too hard. You can adjust the preload but this makes it a little like a pogo stick because there is no rebound adjustment that I can find. This makes climbing and cross country hammering very annoying. However, this bike shines coming downhill. It can soak up some pretty big hits and it does pretty well when you jump off 3-4 foot ledges. The Fox Vanilla Rear shock does really well at taking the hits without bobbing when you have to climb. It also handles quite well through corners and handles well turning through nasty downhills.
This is my first set of disk brakes and though I like them better than the v brakes, I now understand why hydraulics are better. I may try to upgrade to IRD dualbangers so I can get more of a hydraulic feel with mechanical adjustability. Also I am thinking of either replacing the front fork with the new All Mountain SL from Marzocchi or just trying the 40 dollar trick that some people have mentioned in earlier posts.
Still, I have tons of fun on this bike and I put at least 50 miles a week on it. The fork upgrade will cost as much as the original price so it is a great bike for $800.00 and I would definitely buy it again. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$800.00 | | Purchased At: | Tempe Bicycle | | Strengths: | This bike has the same frame design as many other bike companies costing a lot more. You can't get this component group at this price from anywhere else. Awesome bargain for a very expensive sport. This bike takes hits like a monster truck, I'm the only thing holding this bike back. The paint job is awesome in the blue/blk. | | Weaknesses: | The front shock needs upgrade. This bike ain't no hill climber (maybe shock upgrade will improve this). I'm dissapointed in the shifting has left me derailed several times on very steep climbs and will probably upgrade. The rear end has quite a bit of flex I don't know if this is bad or not. This bike is heavy! Maybe componenets can lighten it up. | | Similar Products Used: | Cannondale Super V 500 | | Bike Setup: | Stock | | Bottom Line: | Large frame size is BIG! I'm 6' 2" and lets say I have to becareful dismounting not to get injured in the lower region. This bike is the best deal going for a free ride/ dh bike. I know the quality is there when I went to some of the exclusive Mtn. bike shops and sitting next to a $5000 Banshee dh bike is a "Haro Extreme X2" on the sales floor. This bike looks awesome too! Get one and be happy! I can't write anymore my bike is waiting in the car. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$850.00 | | Purchased At: | Bike Town | | Strengths: | Burly frame, Decent Component Spec, Price, Price, Price. I weigh 210" have done over 4' drop to flat and so far everything is holding up. | | Weaknesses: | Fork slightly mismatched. Rear flexes some. Maybe the crank and wheels but no problems yet. | | Similar Products Used: | Kona Coiler Dee-lux | | Bike Setup: | Stock | | Bottom Line: | The '04 Haro X2 Extreme is an exceptional value. For $850 this bike rocks. Nothing even comes close at this price. Very similar to Santa Cruz Bullit. The frame seems indestructable although there is some flex in the rear. If Haro put a slightly higher tolerance sleeve bearing/assembly in the pivot, the frame would perform every bit as well as a Bullit. The 5" Marzocchi EXR pro coil is not a freeride fork and is the weakest link on an otherwise freeride bike. Nevertheless, it is a decent trail fork once you get the oil level/viscosity right. It is mismatched to the 6" vanilla R in the rear which soaks up drops and jumps like a pillow. 8" Hayes mech front disk and 6" rear do the job. Shifting is smooth. The Truvativ Hussefelt bar is nice. Riding position is great. Ideal for heavier riders on a budget looking for a strong trail bike. One other thing... Haro bikes run bigger. A medium is like a large so be sure to test drive before you buy. Considering all I got for my money this is one of the best purchases I have ever made. Highly recommended. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$800.00 | | Purchased At: | Ski Market | | Strengths: | Amazing price, rides better then my dads bullit. This thing is dope, I thought the hayes brakes were going to be horrible. But they are good, and I have no need to replace them with hydralics. The shifting is good with the shimano LX. And the fox rear shock is very good. This thing is light. Geometry is awsome. The best $800 I have ever spent. | | Weaknesses: | The front fork is a wet noodle. I am 14 and 137 pounds and I was able to bottem it out off a 3.5 foot drop. It is way to floppy for xc and it sucks for hucking. Get a huge travel shock to pitch the bike backwards for drops. The hubs arn't great when I spin the wheel, they don't spin smoothly. I got a new record, the chain has snapped 3 times in one ride. I was peadling and it snapped up a hill and my huevos hit the stem, and I fell over in pain for ten minutes. | | Similar Products Used: | Santa cruz bullit, Specilized bighit | | Bike Setup: | Stock everyting except 2001 Marazochi Super T and tomic sun singlewhide and magara hub | | Bottom Line: | Buy this bike if you want anything from a aggressive xc bike, to a hucker, look no farther my friend. Just simply move the shock bolt up to make it stiffer for xc, or add a duel crown for a sick hucking maciene.
PS. I swear I don't work for Haro, I just love the bike | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$900.00 | | Purchased At: | Sun & Ski Sports (closeout) | | Strengths: | The X2 is a great looking bike (royal blue) with a stout frame and Vanilla-R shock, a Hussefelt bar, Hayes HMX brakes, FSA cranks, Haro platform pedals, Haro FR saddle and seatpost and Kenda tires. (BlueGrove frt, Nevegal rr) | | Weaknesses: | The fork! The Marzocchi EXRpro(coil) only has preload adjust. Set it up soft for rough trails and every pedal stroke causes the front end to bob. Set it up stiff to counter act this problem and it acts like a pogo stick because no rebound adjustment. Also, the EXR is too flexible for an 8" rotor. Unless you upgrade to a fork with a 20mm through axel you should run a 6" rotor up front. The Tektro brake levers do the job but look and feel like crap. The silver/red frame sux. If you have a choice, go for the blue/black. | | Similar Products Used: | nothing, only hardtails before now | | Bike Setup: | stock components except for FSA 90mm stem (stock stem was 75mm) | | Bottom Line: | This is a great bike for anyone wanting a little big-hit performance without big-hit prices. The X2 is best suited for moderately rough trails and light free ride. If you want to go bigger, upgrade the fork and wheelset, add hydraulic brakes and the X2 will be one sweet rig able to do most any extreme trail or stunt. I plan on turning my X2 into a bullet proof all mountain cruiser by adding a Fox/Vanilla 130 RLC fork with Hayes/HFX-9 XC brakes. And let it roll on a Sun/Rhynolite wheelset with Kenda K-Rads for urban use. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Good tires-that grip well. | | Weaknesses: | Rims, and Fork, cable actuated hayes discs. | | Similar Products Used: | Schwinn DS2, Giant ac, Specialized hardrock - stumpjumer | | Bike Setup: | Stock except for a new 20mm Marzocchi front hub laced to a new Mavic 321 rim. Upgraded fork to a New Marzocchi JrT. Will soon be getting hyrdro brakes. | | Bottom Line: | I love this bike with the current set up and it will only get better as I upgrade parts, especially the brakes. The set up with 6inch in the rear and 7inches in the front works very well on the local trails. It climbs better than my previous 3inch travel bike due to the lockout. I modulate @ 200lbs. and have had no problems with the bike thus far. I am very pleased and would buy this ride again. There are only a few upgrades to take care of and once done, it rolls great. A good entry to mid level freeride-downhill-trail bike, it seems as if it can do it all. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

It makes all the difference in the world, believe me.
It's an air pre-stage, that is very simple to install yourself or the LBS can do it for you. My LBS where I purchased the bike installed mine and the total charge was only $32. It's just like the $500 forks now, only it just costed me an extra $32 !!! It still has the same oil/spring setup inside, along with the air pre-stage assist. Not sure about the zokie exr pro front fork. | | Similar Products Used: | Trek VRX 300 | | Bike Setup: | Stock right now except for Hayes brake levers | | Bottom Line: | As stated earlier, the description is wrong. My x2 came with a vanilla r rear shock, and haro platform pedals. The jury is still out on the front fork. I'm not a big fan of zokies (had problems with them in the past), however I'll give it some time to break in. Otherwize, I'll change it out for a psylo or black elite. As far as the bike itself. Have no complaints. I think it is a smoother riding bike than my Trek VRX 300 which I had for four years. For the price you can't go wrong. The Hayes mechanical brakes work well, the bike feels balanced, and it handles tight singletrack surprizing well. (I shorted the handlebars by 3/4 of an inch on each side).
I'll update this review in 60 days or so, once I really take this bike out for some fun on the jumps and red trails.I'll let the zokies break in before I decide to ditch them. Overall, a great bike at a great price. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

The Discs are much better than last year and stop you on a dime. adjustable 5-6" travel on rear fully adjustable. no lockout and awsome front shock.
