Date Reviewed: May 1, 2009
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $300.00
Purchased At:new frame only on eb
Strengths:Stiff, light, chameleon like. I'm already considering all the different configurations I can set-up.
Weaknesses:a little goofy on the sizing...kind of long seat tube compared to shorter top tube...VooDoo sizing is a little wacky. Double check geometry before you buy. 58 is more like a 59 or more. REAR SPACING IS 135MM!!!!!!!!! NOT 130MM. I've seen about 3 different sources that say rear spacing on this frame is 130, but mine was 135 on the nose. unless the guy i bought if from spaced it...but the frame was brand new still in the wrapping, so I doubt it.
Similar Products Used:none.
Bike Setup:105/Ultegra 2x10. TRP Euro X Cantis. Cheap wheels with Gatorskins for the summer, upgrading wheels when cross season starts. Salsa Bell Lap bars, Thomson, Eggbeaters.
Bottom Line:I'm impressed with how fast and responsive the frame is after riding an off brand chromo fixed gear for the last 3 years. Pretty excited to do some LONG rides this summer, and hit up Forest Park for some training rides.

Price Paid: $1000.00
Purchased At:lakewood cycles
Strengths:Steel, go any where, take a beatin, and shake it off kinda bike
Weaknesses:Brakes are tricky to set up if your not used to the canti's
Bike Setup:XT Group
Bottom Line:I rode this bike for two years as a bike messanger in dallas It survived a 40 mph side swipe by a toyota corrolla
well it bent the fork and demolished the front wheel but the frame didnt even ger a scratch on its luscious orange paint. Awesome bike

Favorite Trail:anything that climbs and ends at the sea
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Price Paid: $1500.00
Purchased At:Rock "n" Road
Strengths:Great ride. Well-made. Versatile. 853 tubing is the best. (I also ride a custom road bike built from it.) THe coolest headbadge in the business.
Weaknesses:Was difficult to set up canti brakes. (Don't use V brakes with road levers. Travel Agent and other gizmos just don't do the trick.) Was difficult to set up triple, but finally got it with XT splined crank.
Similar Products Used:None. But, as I said, I also ride a custom 853 road frame (Land Shark).
Bike Setup:Winwood carbon fork, King headset, Ritchey hubs with Velocity Deep-V rims (in orange: matches the bike!) Ritchey cantis, bars and stem, XT crank and rearderailleur, 105 front and STI controls, various tires.
Bottom Line:Will do just about anything in style. What was the first reviewer thinking? Would he rather have a bike with the right braze-ons that doesn't ride well? This bike has taken me on loaded tours of the Pyrenees, French and Italian Alps, Green Mountains, and the Loire Valley. And it doesn't complain on city streets. What more could I want?

Favorite Trail:trail to the sea
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $780.00
Purchased At:family cycling center
Strengths:as stated before columbus tubing(ummm so nice), The compliments i get, stiff ride, versatility
Weaknesses:didnt come set up for disk brakes (no real surprize there), spongy stock front brakes
Similar Products Used:old, miyata 912 road bike set up for racing
Bike Setup:Front disk brake (shimano) and a triple crank (shimano rsx, yes it fits barley, cant use a water bottle cage though) matching rsx shifters, an lx rear and xt front derailurs
Bottom Line:I love my bike, in arpil i will be riding it across the the states (west to east) and have no fear that it will not make it :) the triple crank is probabaly a better upgrade than the disk brake, but who boy the disk is nice when on steep trails. If anyones in the bay area, drop me line so we can go riding gesso17@yahoo.com

Date Reviewed: July 23, 2002
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $300.00
Purchased At:Bike Route in San Bruno, CA
Strengths:Fast, Strong, Nimble, light, smooth, orange.
Weaknesses:I wish the front derailier cable was routed across the top tube with the rest of them.
Similar Products Used:My MTB is an old Bridgestone. That frame is also good old steel but it's lugged unlike the Voodoo.
Bike Setup:Shimano and Ritchey mostly
Bottom Line:It's too bad the previous poster didn't look the frame over before buying it. All of the complaints were about obvious things that could have been identified from at safe distance without pulling out the wallet. I agree that it has a "nice feel when riding", to say the least. I bought this excellent bicycle used for 300 bucks so the value has to be at least 5 flamin' chilis and if the overall was between 4 and 5, I'll go 5 to be on the safe side and offset the inevitable lowballer. Columbus tubing and a Joe Murray design. I love this great old school steel bike.

Favorite Trail:Haamstede
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $2000.00
Purchased At:Andy Los bikeshop
Strengths:Frame stiffness, width for big tyres,
Weaknesses:none
Similar Products Used:I'm also riding a hardtail mountainbike (competition), racing bikes, tandem, etc..
Bike Setup:RockShox Ruby fork, XT derailleurs, XT hubs, Mavic rims, XT V-brakes, fenders, carrier
Bottom Line:I'm riding this bike to commute 2x20km every day, partly through the city and the country. It's a great bike. In wintertime (snow, black ice) I installed a Tioga 38 mm rear tyre and it runs fine.

Duration Product Used:6 months
Strengths:853 steel frame. Nice ride. Great parts mix on complete bike - LX/XT/105, Race Face Cranks.
Weaknesses:Cannot easily setup to use canti brakes.
Bike Setup:"Stock" complete bike setup from VooDoo. Changed LX-V brakes to Tektro mini-Vs. Not a fan of "Travel Agent" and the lower profile of the Tektro's let me easily install a rack.
Bottom Line:This is my all-around bike. I commute on it, go on long Sunday rides - pavement, dirt roads, singletrack. I've done triathlons with it, and this fall I'll do some 'cross racing with it. The 853 frame feels great, it's a good fit. The forward facing seat clamp doesn't allow for easy use of canti brakes if you're a fan of those. I switched to Tektro mini-V's which allow the use of a Blackburn XR-1 rack for my commuting needs.

Overall it's a great bike, nice component mix and a sweet ride. Highly recommended!

Duration Product Used:

Strengths:
Nice feel when riding
Weaknesses:
Can't put on a triple crank, cable routing is goofy.
Similar Products Used:
none
Bottom Line:I hate this frame. All I wanted was a nice all around bike I could take anywhere. I wanted to put a triple on it, but the chainstay comes out too far for it to fit. I went to put a rack on it, and there are no braze-ons. The brake cable routing is all messed up because it was designed to have reverse levers. If I known all this before I purchased the frame, I never would have bought the piece of garbage. I will never recommend a Voo Doo to anybody. Zero stars if I could.
