$250.00 | | Purchased At: | from a friend | | Strengths: | crazy attention to detail, perfect welds, super short chainstays, spot on geometry, paint/looks ( mine is all black with white and red lettering), stiffness | | Weaknesses: | nothing. seriously. nothing. | | Similar Products Used: | kona stuff, azonic DS1 | | Bike Setup: | 07 Marzocchi DJ2 (white), atomlab pimplite wheels on GI hubs (black with white and red lettering), simtra mcskinny bar (white), race face good n evil grips (red), maxxis 2.4 in holy roller tires, single speed, SDG f-style seat (black), titec el norte seat post,, raceface prodigy DH cranks with white E-13 bashguard, rear shimano v-brake (with white cable housing!) no front brake | | Bottom Line: | i built this bike up as part of a project for school where i made a mtb movie. that said, i got to spec it with absolutely everything i want (im struggling to think of any worth while upgrades). and because of ppl i know and connections, my entire build was 1000$ ( it would have been significantly more via mail order, everything on the bike is brand new). as far as the ride goes, i can't stress enough that this bike is amazing. its infinitely more capable than i am at the dirt jump trails, its on point for street riding because of the geometry and chain stays (i can hop soo much higher than on my bro's size small kona. it really will make you a better jumper/rider. i dug a dirt quarter and learned inverts in a day! the weight of my bike isn't all that high ( the pimplites save a lot of weight) but if weight is ur concern you could throw an air fork on it and get some light weight parts. why you would do that tho is beyond me because this bike loves abuse! the only part that wasn't my first choice was the 'Zocchi DJ2, its a great fork but i wanted a white argyle 318, that would have saved a bit of weight, but the DJ2 looks better. In the end it doesnt matter though, because i cant imagine a fork that rides better, its perfect for this bike. bottom line is that this frame will go down in history as one of the most well thought out, durable, good looking and versatile (i hear ppl ride trials on this bad boy) frames ever. too bad they dont make them anymore. i'd buy my brother one if i could. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$200.00 | | Purchased At: | Ebay | | Strengths: | Everything. Hydroformed aluminum front triangle with square tubing rear triangle- doesn't get any stronger than that. Mine has a cool tribal paint scheme over pearl white- looks better than most guys tribal tattoos. I needed a super tough frame to do rough XC riding since I'm over 200+ and Tulsa's trails are notoriously rocky. This fit the bill perfectly and still is relatively light at 4 pounds. Built into an indestructible rider/racer at 26# with a 100mm fork. | | Weaknesses: | not for weight weenies. | | Similar Products Used: | Trek 8000, Specialized epic | | Bike Setup: | Converted to XC for a Clydesdale: Reba, SRAM X.0 shifters & derailleur, King headset & hubs, mavic rims, Hope QRs, Kenda Nevegals, Avid mechs with speeddial Ti levers, SRAM 990 cassette (2006), full Nokon cableing, SAAGO stem, Easton Monkeylite bar, Truvativ singlespeed crank w/ bashguard, Thompson seatpost with rare Thompson collar. | | Bottom Line: | This thing wants to fly off every rock and berm you can find and lands rock solid. Accelerates like a jet. Won't disappoint. You can find it several places on the web for 250-299. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from Tempe, AZ Date Reviewed: April 2, 2002 | | Duration Product Used: | Less than 1 month | | Strengths: | Where to start.. Square rear triangle, beefy chainstay bridge, beefy dropouts, gussets everywhere they could put one (seriously), nobody else has one, and even if they do chances are it's not in the same color as yours, fits big tires, nice long top tube (I'm 6'5"), seat tube is short but not too short- you can still raise your seat to a reasonable height to commute and such. Think about this: other companies make similar frames, but they don't offer a ridiculous 2 year warranty like planet X.. what does that say about their confidence in their product? Between the quality and the warranty, $350 is a stupidly good deal | | Weaknesses: | Chainstays could be shorter. Heavier than weaker frames. Get stronger, and you won't mind. | | Similar Products Used: | Santa Cruz chameleon, some XC frames. My other bike is a Planet X Zebdi which is just as nasty awesome as this one | | Bike Setup: | Urban/slalom.. Profile cranks, Mammoth rims, Hayes 8" front/XT 6" rear, Marzocchi '01 Z3 QR20 set at 4" of travel | | Bottom Line: | I probably ride this bike a little differently than most people. I've been riding trials for a long time so this bike felt funny at first. Slack head angle, long chainstays, etc. I run my fork at 4" of travel so that the head angle is a little bit steeper, since it makes j-hopping a little easier. I mostly do street, intermingled with some trialsy type stuff, and some jumping. When you get on this bike, you'll think "Hmm, that feels pretty good.." then you'll go into a turn and think "that feels really really good!" Maybe it's not for the weight-conscious, but it's far from being unreasonably heavy. If I can j-hop mine onto a picnic table and lurch it 6', then it's not too heavy. Bulk up, fortissimo, and build this bike how it wants to be built. I'd buy anything made by Planet X in a second. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$210.00 | | Purchased At: | Armstrong Bike Dock UK | | Strengths: | Super strong RAD tubing, paint job - Little Audrey camo, geometry inspires confidence, plenty of clearance for 2.3 tyres (tires), 2 year no quibble warranty, price. | | Weaknesses: | None. | | Similar Products Used: | Well to be honest, before I bought the frame I came to mtbr.com, read reviews of similar frames and bought this frame, then built it up, believe me I have no regrets with this bike. | | Bike Setup: | Little Audrey camo 22 inch top tube. Marzocchi Z3 Flylight-100. FSA XLII headset. Azonic bars and Shorty stem 75mm, YETI ODI grips. Halo Combat 26 inch factory built up wheels with diatech hubs. Nokian Gazzaloddi Dual 2.3 Gum Wall. Hope C2 front (185mm disc)and back (160mm). Shimano XT short cage rear mech and XT shifter. Shimano LX tapered BB and LX 9 speed cassette. Blackspire 36T compact chainring. Mr. Control slalom chain device. FSA Power Pro cranks 5 arm (considering Raceface cranks). DMR V12 pedals. Kore lite 2 seat post. Datatag !! Planet X Pin-up (Hawaiian? babe) saddle URL below. http://www.planet-x-clothing.com/graphics/catalogue_final/finish/saddles_girl.jpg TOTAL Weight (wait for it) 35lbs ... OK a little heavy but she can still haul ass up hills if she needs too !! | | Bottom Line: | If you're still not convinced after reading all these reviews then take up tennis or something ... This bike makes me smile so much, as the trails in the UK are opening up again after foot and mouth (my favorite opened again at the start of May 2001 after being closed for months) I just want to get out and find new lines through the descents, new jumps and new ways of scaring myself, this bike would snap a tree if it hit one ! It is so stable across all terrain, if you want a bike that can do pretty much what a full sus can do but without the pivot spares problems then buy this frame, build the bike, find a hill and drop down faster than you thought possible. Now I just have to convince the wife that I still love her more than Little Audrey, but it's a close call !!! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Steering is swoopy and effortless, jumping is a dream with the front end lifting a treat for big jumps and bunnyhops alike. Been riding a lot of street of late and this thing really soaks the big landings. Great array of paint jobs gives you an individual bike and the two year warranty is a bonus. $260.00 | | Purchased At: | Bike Dock | | Strengths: | Strong build with great gussets, high individuality factor, super rigid frame. good choice of colour finishes, which is strong and wont chip easily, and of course the Planet x no fuss replacement garantuee. break within 2 years of purchase and get a new one | | Weaknesses: | Unforgiving due to the stiffness of the frame, wont take 3" tyres if desired. | | Similar Products Used: | DDG Shooter, DMR Trailstar, GT Zaskar X | | Bike Setup: | Planet X Jack Flash Classic, Marzocchi Z.1 Dual, Prostop disc front, deore v rear, planet x wheels and components, lx drivetrain | | Bottom Line: | I like this frame, it's stiff and strong. and i prefer alu to cromo so this suits me fine. The frame will handle anything from pure dirt/duel riding to shorter xc rides since it comes with frontmech cableguides, but if you are tall even the larger version will soon take its toll on your back even with a long seatpost. This bike is ment for hard riding, and will be best suited between the legs of someone who rides dirt, duel/dual or urban assault things. But its not totaly off when it comes to trials either since its fairly small and easy to handle. I use mine for urban and dirt duties. the bike is not light but still feels very nimble to chuck about. It has good geometry and likes to be tormented. So if you want an alu bike that likes punishment after punishment and still wants more this is the one to get. Especially considering Planet X will get you a new one if you break it within to years of purchase. NO FUSS! So whatcha waiting for? =) | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$450.00 | | Purchased At: | Team Planet X - www.teamplanetx.com (650.616.1114) | | Strengths: | This is my review for the Small-Medium (I'm 5'9"-5'10") Jack Flash RAD. What everyone is saying about the geometry of this frame being good, its no bull$hit! Its has a very comfortable feel to it. When you land but drops it somehow is a much softer landing than on other hardtails I've tried (same setup). Flat out, this frame is just solid. 180's you only get wheel flex, drop offs, no flex either. I've done about 4 1/2-5 foot drops on it. Its a very nice frame. | | Weaknesses: | I'm yet to find one. I've been beating on it for 2 months. No signs of stress cracks forming or anything. Some people say it weights to much. I personally don't know what they're talking about. My bike weighs less that my buddies XC Race bike (that seriously pissed him off!!). Hey, bottom line is if you want a strongly built bike IT'S GOING TO WEIGH A LITTLE MORE THAN A XC RACE FRAME!!! | | Similar Products Used: | Haro DSR (I do not like the geometry of this frame. It feels like the pedals are behind you, andhopping around you can feel the frame flex MAJORLY!! ...and no, I'm not talking about wheel flex!) | | Bike Setup: | Z.1-CR, Chain on third cog rear and middle ring front w/ Kooka bash guard (no derailleurs), PDW 2.5" bar, Planet X Meteor Stem, Thompson Seatpost, Rhyno Lites on LX's, Zu-Zu pedals, King headset, ODI Lock-Ons, and don't forget the chrome "engine piston head" valve covers! | | Bottom Line: | Bottom line is, if I didn't like it you'd hear about it. I'm a little nit picklin' f**k! At first I was skeptical about buying this frame because I didn't know much of the company and how good their products were. With the great service I recieved and the quality of this product, I will proudly support this company any day. They hand delivered the frame from the U.K. for me! I have no regrets buying this frame. I can't wait to go out and ride it each night. ...and I took apart my full suspension bike to build this one....I'm NOT going back to the full suspension. This bike is so much more a pleasure to ride and beat on. It just has a good feel to it. You just have to ride one to understand what I'm talking about. For those of you that are considering buying one, I recommed the Little Audrey Camo or the White Glitter Gloss Hawaiian, depending on your taste. I went with the Camo. $2000.00 | | Purchased At: | US Distributor | | Strengths: | I am reviewing the Jack Flash RAD frame.
Everything. Seriously, this bike is so sweet. The geometry is PERFECT for everything except for going up steep hills. You can rail around a corner doing 25mph and it will hold its line. It is great for going down STEEP sections. Jumps and big drops are no problem for this frame - it is in total control in the air, the landings feel like landing on a pillow - there is some sort of dampening characteristic with this frame - I really don't know how or why, but it is there. EVERYTHING is overbuilt on this frame, from the head tube to dropouts, and everything in between. And to top it off, it is nearly indestructible, so much that Planet X guarantees that you won't break this frame within 2 years, else they give you another for free. Same goes with all of their parts. | | Weaknesses: | None. None at all!!! | | Similar Products Used: | GT Arrowhead peace of crap freeride hardtail with Z1 that I had, but i ovalized the head tube and such. What a piece of crap! | | Bike Setup: | -Planet X Jack Flash RAD frame 23' top tube normal dropouts -98' Marzocchi MR.T with the real 20mm through axle -Planet X Goliath bars and cranks -Planet X stem, seatpost, seat -Schwinn XS bmx pedals -Rear Formula Hydraulic disc, no name V brake front -Mavic D521/Formula disc rear wheel -Sun Rhyno lite/Formula disc 20mm front wheel -Intense DH tires, 2.35 60 comp -SRAM 9.0SL drivetrain -QBP Engagement ring (38 tooth ) -Soon a chainguide ( Truvativ or MRP if I have the cash ) -Soon Formula hydraulic disc brake | | Bottom Line: | This is the *BEST* hardtail I have ever ridden. It took me the past 2 months to build it up, and it has been worth the wait. It rides really really well - big drops, jumps, and airs are no problem at all - it is extremely stable in the air, and on the landings. This bike is great for everything - except for cross country. Urban is my favourite thing to ride, and it is sooo sweet for it. So, if you want a freeride, dual slalom, trials, or big hit hardtail, this is the one to get. Virtually indestructible and excellent geometry. Please e-mail me if you have ANY questions about this bike. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Not so with this bike. I loved it the moment I got on it - you know when a bike just feels RIGHT. Sure I own it but my review's honest - this bike corners on rails and jumps great. Ordered it from the UK and had great customer service. I am almost tempted to buy another and keep it for a few years till this one is busted (although I dunno how you'd do that).
