The Performance M-007 is a gloss black Reynolds 853 steel hardtail frame that weighs about 4 pounds (19). I built it up with full XT components, Mavic 217 rims, a Manitou FS fork, and Bontrager Jones tires. The finished bike weighs about 25 pounds. I trained and raced all year on the M-007, and I took it on several mountain biking trips, including two to Moab and one to the top of Pikes Peak on Barr Trail (over 8,000 feet of climbing). I found the frame to be durable and forgiving. The classic frame geometry (71/73), combined with the increased ride height of the head tube (designed to work with a long-travel cross country fork) works very well for racing and long training rides. The M-007 is a good climber, but not outstanding because steel is not as stiff as aluminum. However, the M-007 is an outstanding hardtail descender because it is forgiving and is designed for a long-travel fork. This frame is great for all-around cross-country riding. It remains comfortable on epic rides, yet it is stiff and light enough to hammer around race courses. I paid $250 for it, which I think is a steal compared to other lightweight steel frames. The only negative aspect of the frame is a boring paint job and cheezy decals. 5 stars if it was better-looking. | Overall Rating: |
