The cranks, the hubs, the handlebars, the weather, the lollies last night ...
Really, I've perved on everyone elses love and I'm just fine with my piece of arse, the NX7.3. Sure I paid plenty more than u folkers, but that's how much that piece of art is worth to me. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$125.00 | | Purchased At: | Jenson USA | | Strengths: | This frame is strong as Hell! I've beat it over and over again. The welding is exceptional! Definetly a bike for rough x-country and DH. Specialized and Cannondale frames look so cheap compared to this NX 7.3 frame. | | Weaknesses: | Paint does chip easy and the water bottle placement sucks. | | Similar Products Used: | Specialized StumpJumper, TREK 7000 | | Bike Setup: | Answer A-Tac Stem, Answer ProTaper Riser bars, Deore XTR brakes and levers, Deore XT rear der, LX front der, XT cranks, LX hubs with Mavic 221 Rims, IRC front tire and Tyranoraptor rear tire, SID XC fork, Easton EA-70 seatpost, Selle Italia Gel Flite seat, Ritchey headset, Deore XT 8-speed shifters, Race Face "good 'n evil" grips. | | Bottom Line: | I've read all these posts of Mongoose Pro having a bad name... No Way! Steve Larson was #1 last year and raced for Mongoose-L.L. Bean, and Erik Carter is one of the best downhiller racers ever, and he is with Mongoose Pro. You people need to get some research done! For the $$$, I built a race ready bike for around $1350 and is far superior than what I see at local bike shops for $1500... Always ridden a hardtail... always will... My last frame was a KHS and I bent the piece of junk! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$600.00 | | Strengths: | Monocoque Frame design, large tubing, strength, and stiffness. | | Weaknesses: | BB height is too low. Strength of frame is over kill for XC riding. | | Bike Setup: | Race Face Next LP cranks, Shimano 535 wheels, Manitou Mars Elite forks, Avid Mag brakes, Kore (seat post, handle bars, stem, & skewers), XTR R-Derailleur, STX F-Derailleur, and LX Shifters. | | Bottom Line: | This frame was designed very well. It is a bit heavy (weighing just over 4 lbs.), but very strong and stiff. I do wish the BB was an inch higher (I tend to crack my pedals on rocks with 175mm cranks). Over all I have been very pleased. To bad Mongoose sold out. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$149.00 | | Purchased At: | Jenson | | Strengths: | Incredibly stiff frame, very nice welds, gusset at the headtube | | Weaknesses: | A little heavy, no disc brake bosses, odd size seat post (had to search the internet for an odd size shim) | | Similar Products Used: | Giant Iquana SE-1 | | Bike Setup: | LX Shifters and Brakes, LX Front & XT Rear, XT Cassett, XT Hubs laced to Mavic 517's, Panaracer Fire-X Pro Tires, LX Crank, Kore Elite Post, Specialized Body Geometry Saddle, Syncros Stem, 1998 Judy XL fork, Performance XC Risers, Cane Creek headset, and Time Atac pedals | | Bottom Line: | What a sweet ride! The bike climbs well, decends better and carves turns like a Lotus Esprit Turbo. It holds its line without much effort and is strong on the drop offs. If you want a sweet frame cheap, you cannot beat this bike. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$135.00 | | Strengths: | Stiff, Can sustain more than 400lbs on road. Cool paintwork, handsome (very eye catching and attractive) Excellent price for a branded frame compared to the others. All rounded | | Weaknesses: | A little bit too heavy The painting will be scratched off easily difficult to find a suitable seat-post and BB, things like that...... Difficult to lift with shoulder | | Similar Products Used: | none.. I'm so green in MTB field, just 16, and Hong Kong is not a good place for mountain biking. | | Bike Setup: | Marzocchi XC700 (to be bomber Z3) Mavic rim X138 w/Michelin tires, Full set of LX Magura HS33 | | Bottom Line: | It is really an excellent choice for those who wants to start mountain biking. The low price is just invincible!! No other can beat it down. I was so depressed when my friends said that Mongoose sucks. But from the things I learnt, I know that fame of the brand is not important, but the quality and does it suits you. Though this may not be a good frame in other's eye, I love my bike!!! $125.00 | | Purchased At: | Jenson | | Strengths: | Strong frame Stiff frame Nice features like teardrop shaped downtube, octagonal chain and seat stays, gusset at head tube. | | Weaknesses: | No disc mount(but there are holes drilled in the dropouts..for an adaptor?) Not the lightest alu frame at around 4lbs | | Similar Products Used: | Specalized Rockhopper, Raleigh hardtail, KHS 4000. | | Bike Setup: | Marzocchi 1999 Z2 BAM. ESP 7.0 shifters and derailer, 9.0 front derailer. XT/517 rear wheel, generic/238 front. Specialized S-works handlebar. Kalloy stem. Cane Creek C-2 headset. Sugino Impell 700 crankset w/XT rings. Wellgo 535 clone pedals. Kalloy seatpost w/ Tioga MultiControl saddle. Avid SD1.0 brakes, 2.0L levers. XT BB. WTB VeloR treads. | | Bottom Line: | A great frame for the price. They guy below has it all right. You can buy a $1500 hardtail at a LBS, but you would not have something that works any better. The guy at his LBS must have just been really sore that he didnt buy it from him. I spent arond 700 total on this bike, and for the price it is sweet. I see similerly equiped bikes in my LBS going for around $1500. The frame isnt the lightest, but it is plenty stiff and transfers power well, so it sort of evens out. With the huge tubes it is probably a bit stronger than those lighter aluminum frames anyway. The parts I used are by no means the lightest or the most expensive, but all are proven and should hold up, I especially like the Z2 and the Avid brakes, even though they are low-end they are top preformers. I like how it rides so far, I am relearning how to ride a hardtail. I usually ride my freerider, but I want to have a bike to race both XC and DH, so this is what I will use and practice on for XC. Buying a complete bike at a LBS fine for less experianced and not-mechanically-inclinded Mountainbiker, but when you have the experiance of putting a bike together and the know-how, you can beat the deals that are out there and you can put together a screamen bike for not as much $$$ as a shop will charge. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

I simply said because it was cheap. It is a great frame. it is more than just a recreational rider frame. For amatuer racers it is a great start. I am a lite rider 130lbs. For $125, I got a 4.2 lb. monococque hardtail frame that takes more abuse than most downhill bikes I've seen. Even after tons of hard hits, urban assault rides, and trail riding, this frame performs flawlessly. The complete bikes are an excellent investment. When climbing if you dont have a straight line to follow ,good luck cause the frame really does not track very well.....But when you get to the top just pour on the speed all the way down....This is probably the frames best aspect" going down " again the stearing could be a little quicker but i think something i can live with......So i guess if you dont mind the mongoose name , this frame can make a really good bike for a man who likes to play and mess around....... | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

With the correct fork, it will go where you point it without hesitation. Turns on a dime (on singletrack This is a great singletracking frame. I can lay it over like a road bike). Climbs like a goat, and is expecially stable on long, slow, technical climbs. It is even decent for light trials fun! What seperates it from other good singletrackers (Cannondale M400 for example), is it also shines on high speed fire road decents! Stable, stable, stable! | | Weaknesses: | It is a bit heavy. And the fact that the Mongoose name is now completely in the toilet since the Wal-Mart debacle. I owned a triangular-top-tubed IBOC before this. Man, they could have been a good company. The shop I turn wrenches for just dropped them. | | Similar Products Used: | Mongoose IBOC Pro(1992) Cannondale m400 Beast of East(1992) | | Bike Setup: | XTR front and rear;LX linear pulls w/cheapo Diacompe levers; Club roost low risers; 1998 Manitou SXr; 1992 Deore top-mount shifters(yeah, I'm a dirtbag, but nothing shifts faster!) | | Bottom Line: | I ride tight New England singletrack and this frame is both stiff and fast.
