Date Reviewed: March 2, 2007
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Purchased At:BicycleBlowout.com
Strengths:Excellent handling, decending, climbing, single track, etc.. Highest quality steel frame
Weaknesses:not here
Similar Products Used:Fatchance wicked light, slingshot, GT psyclone,
bridgestone MB1
Bike Setup:XTR, mavic, Fox, ibis bar/stem
Bottom Line:For me, this bike sets the standard for all hardtails.
I have alot of experience on racing hardtails and this is the benchmark for all others hardtails to follow. I`ve owned this bike for 9 years and it`s still in very good condition; I`ve replaced numerous parts due to wear but it`s still sharp as new- this bike I will allways hold onto.
To bad the new Ibis (2006) isn`t making any hardtails- atleast as of yet. Maybe they`ll make a carbon hardtail?

Weaknesses:too cool

Bottom Line:This bike sat and collected dust while I went thru my middle age full-suspension crisis. After the dbl. boinger went down for repairs (again) I decided to cruise the ol Mojo.
Back in love again. The bike can do it all,
even with only One F'n Speed!
OFS means you are always in the right gear, plus no suspensiondrivetrain rattle.

Excellent workmanship
Weaknesses:Not made anymore

Bike Setup:Currently set up as SS running 32:18 with a half-link in the chain.
Bottom Line:The best handling production bike I've ridden since I began mtb'ing 20 years ago. I have two Gunnars that steer as well but their 853 frames don't feel as compiant as the Moron Prestige of the Mojo. My 15" frame fits me perfectly at 5-6" and 140lbs.

Strengths:The aura of riding an Ibis (Mojo). Pretty straight forward as far as this bike; it's a hardtail for cryin' out loud.
Weaknesses:Ibis is out of business, so replacement parts (downtube sticker) are hard to come by.
Similar Products Used:Diamondback, Trek, Bianchi....
Bike Setup:XTR and SRAM....
Bottom Line:I've had this bike since 1999. Bottom line, I love it! The bike is a little "squirrely" at the bottom bracket, but I'm 180 pounds, so that may explain it. No substantiated complaints! It being a hardtail, there really isn't much that can go wrong. After three years, no cracks or other manufacturing defects or problems. The only complaint is that Ibis is out of business.

Weaknesses:No local dealers.

Bike Setup:SRAM, xtr Xvert
Bottom Line:I have tried this frame for a couple of weeks and it is Shaweet!!! I love how comfortable but responsive it is. I feel like I am riding a classic because it is so supple. It climbs great and screams through tight singletrack. If there is better i would like to try. I think that any frame from these small builders (Ibis to me is still small) will be great. Chris DeKerf is making great stuff and I have heard great things about Carl Strong frames. If you keep your eyes open you can build up a great bike for less than 1500.00 and have something that you won't see every day.

It feels awkward at first, but the sensation is similar to skiing on mid-fats and allowing the skis to roll the arc underneath you. A very stable ride, point and go attitude. No nonsense riding. Bottom Line:I wanted to wait until the initial sugar high that a new bike brings wore off before I could review this frame objectively. After 7 months of pounding singletrack from one end of NC to the other, I can say this bike is incredible.

The geometry, feedback, handling, and beauty of it far surpasses large scale production frames. It chews up singletrack. The ride is unreal. It is an incredible climber, an able descender, and an all around monster of a trail bike.

The folks at Ibis are second to none in the customer service department. I'm glad I got it when it was less than eight bills. Even now at $895 it's a deal. Why buy a mass produced cookie cutter bike when you can make your own original?

Bottom Line:Best frame I have ever seen. Very light but strong (I am over 200 Lbs) and have no issues with flex etc. Bike itself is beautiful (Ibis has the best colors in the business).

Aside from what I have already mentioned, the frame is amazing. The handling is precise and the ride quality is magical. If you have any doubts forget them. You will not be disappointed by this frame. Go out and buy one today!

By the way, the folks are Ibis are great people. They were very helpful during the buying process. In fact, one of the major reasons I went with Ibis was the fact that the customer service was sooo good (I had also looked at the IF - nice frame, but the people I talked to over there were not especially helpful - promised me catalogs etc and I never received them).

One last thing, I see a lot of people buying cookie cutter bikes from Specialized, Treck and Cannondale etc. They make ok stuff but honestly, you can build up a great Ibis for around 2000.....pretty much in line with a lot of the mid/high end of the major brands. Don't do yourself this disservice.

Strengths:('96 Mojo-Tange Moron tubeset)workmanship, classic styling, tracks good fast, tracks good slow, beautiful colors (copper, mmm...) that you'll never find on a TREK (sorry. Travis), this is the frame that other frames want to be when they grow up.
Weaknesses:If you can't afford one ya might want to get a weekend job at an Ibis dealer. These lil' gems ain't cheap. If this isn't going to be your last frame, but a Stumpjumper or an 8500. When you're ready to make a commitment, step up.

Bottom Line:How many other frames have this much care put into it? The head badges are designed by a local Sonoma County jeweler, this bike has more history by the time it rolls out of the painter than almost anything else. The handling is the ideal balance of forgiveness and authority. My '96 frame has seen plenty of rocks, gravel, and highway bugs, with only minimal scratches in the beautiful Imron paint job. After 2 years racing P-20s for my team(a fantastic ride, also) My first ride back on the Mojo was like coming home for Christmas. No other frame I've seen oozes this much soul (Independents, old Fat Citys, and '87 Stumpjumpers with bull-mose bars and friction shifters are the only ones that come close). Can you say "handjob"?

Strengths:Solid, stiff ride. Superb handling. Simply a great classic hardtail. Ibis quality.
Weaknesses:Paint seems to chip a bit easily. Don't like the new decals. Hmm, I'm thinking... Oh yes, I have two steel Ibis hardtails - a single speed and a geared Mojo. This creates altogether too much delay trying to decide which bike to ride.
Similar Products Used:Several other production steel hardtails.
Bike Setup:Mojo - Mazocchi A-bomb, XTR, CK headset, RaceFace Cranks.

Single Speed - Marzochhi Z2 BAM, CK headset Paul's hubs, RaceFace cranks.
Bottom Line:I would recommend these bikes to anyone. Yes, they're a bit more expensive - and worth it. They handle incredibly and look terrific. For those who posted concerns about the hardtail ride, try a suspension seat post. Both bikes are equipped with the U.S.E. XCR - much cheaper than upgrading to the Silk-Ti...

Strengths:The handling; hands down THE BEST handling (mountain) bike I've ever ridden. It's nimble yet control inspiring. It's like a Lemond Zurich for the dirt. Unbeatable Ibis craftsmanship, excellent customer support, and great looks makes this THE BEST steel hard tail money can buy.
Weaknesses:Be careful of rust if you spend a lot of time in the wet. I noticed some build up inside the seat tube a week after a long ride in the rain. JP Weigel frame prep would do the trick. I wonder why it wasn't done at the factory.???

Bottom Line:Before I bought this bike, I hadn't ridden for four years due to knee problems finally(?) solved with orthotics, clipless and low Q-factor. This is also my first bike with /any/ suspension, and man, has that taken some getting used to. But now that I'm remembering/relearning how to ride 25+mph through sand & rocks, one thing above all is clear: this bike handles far & away better than /anything/ I've ever swung a leg ova'. You don't steer this bike, you /lean/ it. Riding this sweet thang is all about balance, and either I was too young or was just riding crap in the past, but I swear that I can move through tighter turns faster and in more control now than I ever could before. The local ex-racer / shop owner what put her together for me calls this a "hips bike" versus a "shoulders bike", for those familiar with such terms... and baby, am I ever a hips man!! Now if I could only get 100% comfortable with the durn clipless..

Bottom Line:I would have purchased this bike for its amazing handling alone. It simply flies through tight trails. The fact that the Mojo absorbs bumps and is an amazing climber make this frameset worth every penny. After riding full suspension for a year I am amazed how fast I can climb hills on this bike. When I stand up it just goes, no wheelspin just forward motion.
Ibis has been building the Mojo for over 9 years and they have it dialed. You can spend more money than $775 for a frameset but IMHO you will not be getting a better bike. When you are through listening to the magazine praises of the lasted wonderbike full suspension rig, do yourself a favor and consider a handbuilt steel Mojo.

Favorite Trail:The tracks of Tullinge (Öhh its in Sweden, yeah of course you already knew that, just checking!)
Duration Product Used:3 months
Strengths:The frame is pretty lightweight for being made of steel. Well the tubing is outstanding, you can hardly see the welds between the tubes. It take up most of the big hits that you and the bike get caused by. But it's also rigid when you're climbing. You have great control in high speeds!
Weaknesses:? Please tell what this column is ment for! ??? You can't mean that there are supposed to be any weakness in this product...(It's handmade in the US, can't see anything wrong with that!!!) Well it is a little expensive, but I'm willing to pay the money to lay hands on it.

This is what I allow my self to call a raceready bike. Any comments?
Bottom Line:I'm very satisfied with the frameset. It's rigid but not as stiff that your butt gets hurt or the arms oscillates. Did you forgot the steels strenghts? Steel take the worst bumps and make them soft, so that they only tickle you in the back.
But on some nice components and maybe people understand that the frameset is a fine one, well here in Sweden most of ordinary cyclists never heard of IBIS, Weakness: Most of the people in Sweden never heard of it, that TOO bad for them!

Buy one if you have the $$$ and want to win the local or world champion competitions, you won't regret it.

Strengths:
Great ride, frame did what you asked it to, when you asked. Exceptional handling. One of the best hardtails I have ridden.
Weaknesses:
Notice I spoke in the past tense? Well the frame broke at the weld between the H.T. and T.T. on a crash. The failure was obviously a workmanship defect. Upon inspection at Ibis they told me that it was my problem and that I could buy a new frame from them for $75 off retail. Wow, $75 whole dollars off a $950 frame.
Bottom Line:The bottom line is that the frame is well designed, but it was flawed. I bought the Ibis specifically because I liked the frame, but more importantly I liked the attitude that they portrayed. Positive cutomer-service minded folk who were real people. Let me tell you , this was not what I experianced. There are plenty of great bikes out there that I picked my Mojo from among (WTB, Salsa, DeKerf to name a few), but I would not recommend an Ibis due to their service. Their bikes are nice though.

Bottom Line:

I've ridden the Mojo, Ti, and Alibi. The geometry on each is excellent at slow speed. No other bike handles better at slower speeds-great for super technical riding where every ounce of effort counts. All the frames actually handle similarly, but with Ti being the most comfortable and the Alibi being very harsh. The Mojo is also a bit rough/sharp on the backside, but the handling is what you're buying here. And also the paint jobs- such eyecandy and you wouldn't want to scratch it. The first scratch will leave you b*tching for weeks. Funny how they all handle the same- solid straight line stability even when the hardtails start bucking a little. The slow speed handling/singletrack will amaze your friends when you out turn them even when you're tired of them riding your ass. A very fun bike that feels good when you handle it- like a fine tool. The backside absorption seems to be a little lacking (what do you expect from a hardtail), but the new 99 Mojos have curved seatstays which look comfortable. Top tube is a bit short, but lets you yank on the bars at an instant- this is a handler/racer not a lounger or all day tourer. You can handle any terrain, switchback, and singletrack with these frames and really smile when you know this one is designed to handle better than the rest. Try it, there's a difference and if you can't feel it, you don't need a better bike than what you have. 5stars -1 for the backrub on Stutterbump row(Only because I've ridden another frame that is totally backside smooth, but the slow speed handling is not as smile inducing). If a girl handled like this frame handles...slow speed...

There is something to the Ibis reputation, something beyond the headbadge and a handjob. This bike proves that steel is not dead. Craftsmanship is top notch.
The tig welds are FINISH FILED. It's almost as if the bike is fillet brazed. Plus they offer many options for that semi custom feel. I wanted rack mounts, Voila, I got rack mounts, I want an extra bottle mount, again an extra bottle mount. Oh, and ask them if they have any cromoly stems left? Mine is sweet.and the ride lives up to the quality of the construction. this is one sweet single tracker. This bike is upgrade proof. This is the last bike I will ever buy!

I Love My Mojo! It's merely a CrMo Mojo but it could not be better. It climbs wonderfully, it has an amazingly plush liveliness through the rough stuff and it goes where you point it. It's showing me how to be a more technical rider - I just feel so comfortable on it.I agonized over a bike choice for 3 months. I didn't take spending that kinda money lightly - ask my wife and friends who tortured with me through those 3 months. Now, after riding it for almost a month, I am amazed at how much it has exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend it as THE choice of bikes.Oh yeah, almost forgot. Make sure you get it with the hand job - that's gotta be the secret to the incredible ride! It get's the big five...

I was gonna get an Eastern Woods Research, but after a 6 month wait and no bike in sight I got with the program and ordered my Ibis mojo. I couldn't be happier, this bike is absolutely amazing. Fun fun fun, light, and just beautiful. The bike is stable at speed, quick in tight areas, and just all around a blast. It made a 9 mile (one way!) road commute FUN! I'd like to see any other mtn bike do that....

There's just nothing better. Great climber, quality steel, lightweight, a bargain... wait a minute. Extra nice paint job, but an extra-nice paint job looks extra crappy with some good dings in it. I've got an AMP shock, XLR8 cranks, TNT chainrings, XT topmounts yadda yadda and i wouldn't trade the thing for any other frame out there. Buy one! But be careful, Ibis screams steal me.

I just paid a truckload of money on a Ti Mojo with full XTR and Judy SL. I was kinda disappointed with the welds and overall build quality of the frame.Paying $2800 for a frame, you expect perfection. I was going to give it a 4 chilli for the frame but decided to wait and see how the ibis ride would feel like.I would give this bike 10 chillis if I could. The ride is nothing short of a miracle. It is superstable on everything, even fast and steep drops. Then in the woods it handles like nothing else. It is super quick and does everything perfectly. Stand on the pedals and you get instant acceleration. It is stiff like a aluminum frame but goes over bumps like the best steel frames. The absolute best hardtail ever made. Period.-H

Groovy ride, Great climber. I've always ridden aluminum for reasons of stiffness and climb-ability, but this CroMo bike makes me think I wasted my youth on Aluminum. Forget exotic metals, forget full suspension. The ride is incredibly responsive, It's like getting off a donkey and climbing on an Arabian (Horse that is...) I only wish I rode as well as my bike handles. Buy it!

I got my mojo workin'!!! Its a sweet ride, but for the money, I expected it to ride like my Yo! Eddy from Fat City. Fat City didn't seem stable enough for
me to purchase another Yo! so I went with Ibis. No real regrets, but wish
They'd buidld it like a Yo! 4 Solid Chili-hochamajigs

Absolutely, unquestionably, unequivocally (in my opinion) the best frame set I've ever had. Built-up with ESP 9.0, XTR and Crossmax this thing is alive, becoming an extension of you!. Every command input is executed with absolute precision while delivering a comfortable ride. There is an intangible feel of finesse, control and quality which none of the other bikes high end bikes I've owned deliver..............worth the price, look no further!

Bottom Line:

The Mojo is a great climbing bike it feels like the bike is alive under you. This is a lightweight CRMO frame made with Moron tubing(More in the ends). Cooler than all of that the frame has a rear cable stop shaped like a hand. This is by far the best handeling bike I have ever ridden. I'm not big on climbing but this bike makes it seem easy. This frame also has Breeze style dropouts for added stiffness in the rear. All in all I would not trade it for any other bike on the market.
