Strengths:    sexy titanium lace chainstays, rear suspension, perfect welds, light stiffness every whichway, and the rubber boot looks sweet and retro- like it could be from battlestar galactica

Weaknesses:    creates an awkward situation when passing roadies, on the road, on the way to the fun stuff... im not trying to be a jerk- the bike MAKES me go that fast. its anxious i think. some of those poor dudes burn out in the name of pride. nice colorful shirts though

    Bottom Line:
always been stubbornly devoted to hardtail but this is so much better than any thing ive ever tried. no trade offs or sacrifices like with full suspension. Wow! the rear suspension offers the perfect amount of travel and responsiveness for me. truly a work of art and inspiring to ride.

Strengths:    AWESOME!!! Incredible craftsmanship, all the welds are perfect

Weaknesses:    No Ibis anymore, however I have gotten some parts from Castellano. No rear disk mounts.

    Bottom Line:
This bike rides so smooth it is incredible, it soaks up all chatter. I can fly over rough rock sections and the nike just glides over it. I haven't built it as an ultralight bike, I have beefy wheels & such, but bike only weighs 23.75 lbs! The bike handles incredibly, super stiff side to side,no sideways flex from chainstays and I weigh 220 so that says alot. This was the best investment of my life, even tho everyone thinks I'm crazy to spend so much on a bike.

Strengths:    It has everything you could want in a XC fram: light weight, excellent climbing, decent travel, incredible handling.

Weaknesses:    Even as newer and more sophisticated inovations are coming out, I still don't think there is a bike out there that can beat the overall quality/efficiency of this frame.

    Bottom Line:
As this bike is no longer being produced and other light weight cross county rigs are surfacing and taking the spotlight, I felt complelled to do my little part to keep this bike where it should be: on the top of the XC heap. To this day, I don't think there is a better XC bike out there. I have no intentions of purchasing a newer frame. I'll just continue upgrading components on this frame until I'm an old man. (Actually, I think I'm already getting a bit old.) With the addition of a tubless system (whether Stan's or UST) you get an absolutely amazing ride. I honestly feel that I don't just have a bike, I have a work of art.

Bike Setup:   The works. I only put the best on this lady. I've got her down to 22.7 pounds (even w/ UST wheels/tires) and I think I can get her down a bit more (I just have to fork out the cash to get the Egg Beater Triple Ti pedals and we're in business). But it doesn't really matter. I just have a compulsion about getting this bike as light as I can while still maintaing a functional ride.

Strengths:    Excellent all round XC Frameset that could revolutionized XC technology by simplifying maintenance and maintaining reliability. The Bike Climbs like "SPIDERMAN ON CRACK"

Weaknesses:    IBIS IS CHAPTER 7 (NO WARRANTY) - Not overly concerned, Frame constructed by Titanium Sports Technology out of Washington State...Superb workmanship!

    Bottom Line:
Trained and raced several hundred miles on the equipment and have fallen in love with concept. As you will read in everyone's reviews prior to mine (VERY ACCURATE), the bike performs as to be aspected...I modified the bike somewhat by having Carl @ Strong Racing Frames weld Ti Read Brake Tab and bosses for the Disc set-up (EXCELLENT CRAFTSMANSHIP). I also originally started with a Thompson Seatpost and switched to the Moots Set Back Post since I needed a tad more reach since the top tube probably needed to be a half inch longer when originally manufactured. I would think you will most likely see this frame in production under another Ti manufacturer. Remamber you pay for what you get in life.

    Strengths:    The ride, geometry,quality

Weaknesses:    Customer service. See bottom line.

    Bottom Line:
I decided on this bike after looking at many others. Couldnt decide between the Ripley or the Silk ti. Called Ibis spoke with them and then decided on the Silk ti. Called dealers for the best price. Velo Shoppe in Columbia SC gave me the best deal. He called to check on availability and they said they had one, be there in a week. two or three weeks later no bike. They apoligized for the mess up but they would try and find one at other dealers. Found one in Ca and paid an extra $100 bucks to get it to SC fast. Got it and I love it.I called Ibis to give them the registration info and to see if I could get some paperwork and sram grease, which did not come with the bike. For some reason they have not responded to several calls, I guess they figure the sale has been made?? I hope I do not have any warranty issues, not pleased for the money I spent. As for the bike. Tight is a good word to describe the bike. It just works. Log crossing, roots, climbing are everything I hoped for. I would have liked to had both the Ripley and the Silk ti to demo on singletrack. Bottom line, if you do not want to buy one, dont ever ride one because you will have to get it. Four Chilis for value just because it is very pricey, and they should return phone calls.

Strengths:    The handling characteristics and craftmenship is the obvious strengths. I can spirit like I was on a road bike due to the chainstay flex yielding outstanding traction. One race season with 112 logged rides with absolutely no complains, only if shimano parts would last as long.

Weaknesses:    It difficult to determine, maybe the seatpost diameter is an odd size

    Bottom Line:
This is truely a secret weapon in the persuit to win races. The traction on the climbs is fantastic. The bike handles better than any bike I have ever riden, my friends are jealous. If you are looking for a bike you can depend upon for ten or more years then the Silk Ti is a excellent choice. If you are a freerider and want the latest gear then look elsewhere.

Strengths:    Incredible design quality (the welds are clean and the frame finish is second to none), very personal and professional customer service (especially given how few folks that run that company), and it performs exactly as advertised.

Weaknesses:    You have to be kidding me! There is no weakness here.

    Bottom Line:
OH MY GOD! I will never buy another full suspension ride again. I don't believe that equipment can make a better athlete. However...

This bike is telepathic. Think a line, pick a path, just look where you want to go and this bike will take you there. Also amazing how well the rear end works to suck up the bumpy, high freq segments of a trail, while giving an incredible degree of control during technical and climbing sections. John Castellano proves that engineers CAN do some really incredible things to make our lives better.

In a nutshell, no "buyers remorse" at all. This bike is the best buy I've made in over 3 years. If you're squeamish about dropping $2k for a frame and another $1k or so on the right components, then you'll have to rely on reading the reviews posted here to get an idea how much better your rides can be. All I can say is... OH MY GOD! All I want to do is ride... 24-7. If you can afford it, buy it... buy it NOW! It will change the way you ride and improve how much you enjoy your rides.

This sweetheart gets 5 chilis for value because you absolutely get what you pay for. And the SilkTi gives you everything an Amsterdam night could, only legal in the US. She also gets 5 chilis for the overall rating because the menu only lets you give 5 chilis. I can't say enough...

Strengths:    The ride, looks, craftsmanship, customer service,...Oh and it turned out really light!

Weaknesses:    None so far and don't expect any!!

    Bottom Line:
I have build this bike with everything my hart desired. The result is the perfect bike for cross-country riding and racing. It has just enough travel to take the edge of and it will make you smile every time you get on it! The handling is almost telepathic altough not as nervous as my Klein which is absolutely normal and a good thing. This bike just screams to be ridden. The best part is the extra grip it delivers to the rear wheel. This will help you climb alot better and improves the control.
The frame looks great and is very well build.
I will update this review once I have ridden it some more but I don't think that will take long!

    Date Reviewed: July 1, 2001

Strengths:    Ride, Build, Ride, Ride. Clever suspension, design simplicity, classic geometry.

Weaknesses:    Availability in England, ,lack of disc option (but on a CC bike, I've gotta admit that the complexity and weight are of little interest to me)

    Bottom Line:
Bottom line is that the crazy flat chainstays work exactly as claimed. The Ibis actually feels like a FS ride on the bumps and a hardtail on the smooth--with none of the squeaks, complexity, weight, or headache of a FS bike. Build quality is great with welds that are perfect (with one small brazed on exception and a badge that suffers from mediocre plating, but who cares). The rear shock has proven to be supple and progressive which coupled with the easy ride of Ti results in the sort of magic carpet feel you wish for. On non-technical trails lets you run high psi to get rolling fast without shaking to death. Overall, great thinking on the suspension and great execution. Frame rides a little bigger than you'd expect from the numbers so be careful on frame sizing. As far as the price goes, well, it's steep but these guys look to be trying to keep overhead low and deliver value, plus they're responsive to questions. Value gets a 5 since (a) this bike is not going to be one that in 5 years is really outperformed by anything new--it will still be delivering what it was on the day it arrived. Set to be a classic ride and displace the Moots as the softail champ.\

Once the new-purchase euphoria wears off I will re-review.
