Strengths:    Impeccable Californian handmade workmanship. This thing is about 10 years old now (frame cost ~$2,400 in '97!) and still performs like a champ. I bought it used for a steal of a deal to add to my wonderful Ellsworth Roots communter/ cyclocross. Elsworth was waaaay ahead of their time (esp w/ the carbon rear triangle, sealed bearings). Superlight alum. They still use this similar FS technology in their current lineup. This is an early FS that outperforms most of todays modern rigs.

Weaknesses:    absolutely none.

Bottom Line:
Very, very rare. I'll ride this bike for the rest of my life if it keeps holdin' up (no probs for 10 yrs now)!

Bottom Line:

Fantastic frame. Navigates single track, climbs, sprints, and careens downhill with the polish that only comes with excellent engineering and construction. Everyone that sees it oohs and aahs. Everyone that rides it, wants one. I have been so impressed that I have ordered one for my wife.Regarding the issue of alleged loss of power or bobbing due to dual suspension. When sprinting out of the saddle, I have watched the rear shock remain virtually motionless (unless there was a bump that caused the suspension to actuate). On the other hand, try to sprint on a hardtail and keep the front shock from bobbing. Don't get me wrong, you can make an Ellsworth bob. Simply utilize horrible technique. However, that technique will make a totally rigid bike bob to the extent that rider downard pressure causes the tires to compress and then rebound (bob).Regarding the allegations that a fully suspended bike is heavy. My answer is: not by much. My built-up Ellsworth is 25 pounds and 4 ounces (weighed with the Scott tire pump attached). That is with a 97 Judy XC, Syncros cranks, double ti BB, bar, stem, ESP 9.0, Avid Ultimate levers, Arch Supreme brakes, and CrossMax wheels. Obviously, a S.I.D. would bring the weight to well under 25 pounds with nothing stupid light.

Bottom Line:

I've had my FS2/xc for a few months now, and love it! It is soooo much more plush than my old ProFlex 855, and the craftmanship is first rate. The anodized front triangle is beautiful and the carbon rear triangle is super stiff. The frame with a RS Coupe Deluxe comes in at 5.6 lbs. The best part is that the suspension is not only plush, but efficient when I need to hammer out of the saddle. I was concerned about the geometry, because they do have long top tubes, but in actuality, I've found it to be more comfortable than any other bike I've ridden. Finally, Ellsworth stands behind what they manufacture and sell. I've corresponded a lot with Tony himself and his wife Therese is in charge of Customer Service. They've both been extremely helpful when I've had questions about my frame. They're not cheap, but then quality investments rarely are!

Bottom Line:

This frame is the strongest, trickiest, most plush racing toy you'll find on the mkt. 'Been riding it since March'97 and love everything about it. Couple it with 3 fork and you got yourself the most comfortable, rewarding ride ever. Ellsworth craftsmanship shows in every detail. Just look at the main triangle and all those welds... Light as a feather, I'd say it's way better and stronger than Turner Burner XC. No flex and almost zero maintenance is something most other full suspension owners only dream about. Doesn't come cheap, but if want the best there IS NO alternative. If you're serious about riding, GET ONE.
