Strengths: good frame
light
nice paint
etc.Weaknesses: light weight makes it weakerBottom Line: a sweet XC frame, but anything else is a risky venture...(i bent a seatstay 1.5 in. in a crash). if you can find one, buy it...it is one of the best xc hardtails ive ridden.

Strengths: Light weight, Handeling, stiffnessWeaknesses: None yetBottom Line: I saterted racing for DEAN last year and the Oscar was the only frame I could afford at the time so I got it, It was a very good choice. It climbs better than a mountain goat and decends even better. The freame isn't as stiff as other Al. frames but it's still not as soft as a Ti. frame. If your looking for a good Aluminum Frame get the Oscar (renamed Private for 2000) This frame is extremely light and well worth the money. You can easily build a sub 24 lb. bike with this frame and I would recomend it for anyone who is seriously into racing or loves to ride.

Bottom Line:
I bought a 98 Dean Oscar on a close out from Axxis Sports for $525, this is still the Easton Elite model. First let me tell you about the components I put on it. The wheels are LX hubs laced with DT revolution spokes and alloy nipples, ulrta light tubes and Panaracers folding duster pro's. Specialized Ti bottom bracket, Raceafce Crankset with Avatar Werx rings and time carbon Pedal, Marzocchi Atom Bomb front shock, Control tech stem, Raceface Air Alloy bar with Control tech stubby bar ends, Dean Ti seat post and a SDG Slim Jim Saddle. The shifting department is handled by Grip Shift 8.0 Attack shifters using Gortex cables Xt front derrailuer and a XTR rear. Braking is XT V-brakes and Xt levers and once again Gortex cables. I just got in from a night ride and its 10 degrees outside and snowing. This bike handles unbelievably great. The whole ride nothing but traction. The frame flexs like a good steel bike but at a much lighter weight. Easton has done a great job with these tubes. This bike eats up singletrack. If you can still find a 98 Easton Oscar, grab it. The Oscar is the ultimate hardtail.
