you can buy the frame for 80 quid brand new off ebay and build a quality jump/hardcore xc bike for under 500 quid in fact i would have if the wheels hadn't cost 200 quid!!! in fact the only thing i'd swap it for is an orange msisle! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$280.00 | | Purchased At: | ROC sport | | Strengths: | Cheap and sturdy. Small, nimble and stiff. It gives you confidence when dropping urban obsticles. You don't get the feeling something is gonna break when doing things above 3'. Used it on a DH race the other wekend and it behaved verry well. Allthough I missed the Hayes on my Tracer and I would like the steering angel closer to 69 degs, it's now at a verry slack 65 with the 5" z1. Still it's verry quick and easy to move around under you. I won over all the others on hard tails and beat plenty of riders with 6" FS bikes.
I won't give it five chilis because the verry slack steering geometry, but it sure deserves four flamin C's.
Did I mention that you cant beat the price on this frame. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$400.00 | | Purchased At: | Super Cycles | | Strengths: | I can't believe the value of the Shooter... I got so much strength and lightness in the frame and the perfect dimensions for my size. It easily beats any other bike anywhere near its price and it can do nearly everything with no problems... | | Weaknesses: | No majors... I went for the limited edition Camo paint which isn't doing too bad but a few nasty falls have kinda chipped it abit. I wouldn't buy it if you don't wanna get hurt on BIG downhill but I love the hardtail DH experience, HATE the slosh of a Full Sus so the rider must not have any liking for a smooth ride... | | Similar Products Used: | Trailstar (not as smooth or rigid) Dr Jeckyll (seems looser and feels less gelled) | | Bike Setup: | Avid SD3 (I don't like Discs and Arch U's are gonna be later) Single front set with chain guard/guide. $550.00 | | Strengths: | Strenghts of DDG Hitman frame:
It has a good price/quality ratio and impression of the workmanship is quite good. Frame is made from 7005 aluminium and frame I think it is stylish with it's strangely polished tubing. Suspension has 4-links like Diamondback/Kona -bikes. DDG has clearly studied big name brands (Kona etc.) and copied some solutions into their frame. Rear travel is 3,5" and there are two points where to attach rear shock. Frame is light - it weights 2180gr (about 4,8lbs) without rear shock (It wasn't with me when I weighted the frame). Frame has replaceable rear derailleur dropout and IS disc brake mounts. Main pivot has 4pcs sealed cartidge bearings. 3 other pivots had plastic surfaces as bearings (I replaced those with needle bearings). Rear shock is Fastrax RL which is available separatelly as Pear Racing Technologies model Spice-R. It's a good but basic coil/oil -shock, which has a adjustable rebound damping with good range. Spice-RC (bigh brother of Spice-R) was recently tested in German Bike magazine and it was recommended in that test. It's comparable to big brand basic shocks. There comes a DDG seat post and SP clamp with the frame. | | Weaknesses: | Weaknesses of DDG Hitman frame:
Can't think anything big. Not that I'd just like to praise the frame, but I haven't had any problems with it. Nothing has failed, broken, damaged or bent. It has survied several crashes. Only noticeable thing is that I lost some paint because of chains slapping against rear stays - but that happens to every bike if those aren't protected. I was expecting at least having some kind of small problems with the frame but that haven't happened. It just have functioned flawleslly.
One thing about the shock; keep the spring centered over the shaft. So if you carry your bike from the shock make sure the spring wont touch shock body. That contact won't damage the shock or spring, but it will scratch shock body. | | Similar Products Used: | Orange X-1 Pro (my previous fully) Tried few other fullys; Haro etc. | | Bike Setup: | Front shock: SID100 Parts range from XTR to LX Weight of my new bike was quite pleasant suprise when I weighted it; about 11,7 kg (26 lbs). | | Bottom Line: | This is a review of DDG Hitman frame:
Unbeliveable value! If this frame had a Big Brand sticker on it, it would cost more - a lot more. I know there are better frames available but those are quite expensive.
Rear end smoothens everything I ride over; rocks, roots and landings from jumps. It is really sensitive without bobbing or any other extra movement. It is laterally rigid and frame feels sturdy. Because upper tube isn't straight but bent it is really easy to lean on both sides without your legs hitting the frame. Bike is stable in every situation. It climbs well in every climb - even in steep rooty climbs. Downhills are fun since bike is steady - just choose where you want to go and steer into that direction. Frame is made for riding fast; a fast trail with a bit of small rocks and roots, large rock-areas with small jumps; yes! That's fun and that's what it's made for.
Oh, almost forgot. I replced those plastic bearings in pivots with a needle bearing set and this review is 'ridden' with those in place. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
