Favorite Trail:Fischer Creek
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $2600.00
Purchased At:Jenson
Strengths:Beefy Construction, Great pedaling, no flex, plush
Weaknesses:Heavy, chain suck is bad but not to often
Similar Products Used:tested Kona's and bullits
Bike Setup:Psylo xc, xt/ truvalt/ singletrack/ avid mechanicals/ 2.5+ 2.25 trailbears/ homemade tubeless
Bottom Line:My first bike with the newer technology. I've always been a weight weenie kind of guy, but firgured I wanted some plush. I decided that if I was going to go for it I might as well get a beefy frame to start with and pick some components that were lightish but strong. I could probably get the bike lighter(~35# now), but would cost me. The bike is just what I was looking for: pedals well and soaks up the bumps great. The fork is flexy and the brakes howl occasionally. Love it. If your looking for bike to grow with this is great choice. Not a racer but definately a long trail ride kinda bike. On a side note I'll never go back to tubeless.

Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $1100.00
Purchased At:Covebike.com
Weaknesses:Flex (though i may need to do a 3 month tighten up on all of the bolts)
Bike Setup:I'm sure this will make the free-riders gag: 03 G-spot w/ 5th element, 03 Z1 SL, Singletrack/xt wheelset, xt drivetrain, avid mechanicals
Bottom Line:My setup is guestimated at ~31 lbs (and I think i'm only a x-country wheelset away from being 30). I'm a clydesdale (215lbs) with an 80/20 split of x-country to urban. It may not be the lightest x-country setup, or ready for 10 foot to flat drops (it is ready for 5 foot to flat), but it does a decent job. Peddling up doubletrack my partner noticed I had less bob than he (Superlight w/fox float) and going downhill he knew he couldn't keep up. So, while nto being the best at anything, Cove has put out a functionally versatile project.

Even though its not supposed to be of concern, i get a lot of fingers pointed and talk about the bike, nto to mention i haven't seen another Cove in town.

Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $3000.00
Purchased At:Cove Bikes, Endevour Cycles
Strengths:Engineering is A1, the frame is bullit proof. Seems like heavy bike tp pickup, but the weight isnt hardly noticable when riding it. Just point and shoot, the bike soaks it all up.
Weaknesses:Not available in australia. Was a mission to get it here, cost a bomb in shipping and taxes!
Similar Products Used:Kona Stinky, Dawg,

Bottom Line:This bike rocks. No matter wether its 20k bash on single trails, or down hill runs, its brilliant. I could never go back to my hard tail, ever. Its simply a matter of dialing the shocks for the big drops, then switchin back when on the single trails again.
The engineering and design of the bike are superb. After i saw the G Spot for the first time, i knew I had to have one. The bikes lived up to all my expectations, and then some. Its definatley mroe capable then I.

Strengths:Tough, Pedals OK, fits 24x3.0 (on trailpimps), stiff enough for 8" rotor. Looks badass. Guys at Cove are great to work with.
Weaknesses:Cable routing ('02) Weird seat tube (30.0)

Bottom Line:This frame can put up with alot of abuse so if you ride hard or are a heavier rider than this should be one of your options. With the right components it can handle DH yet be agile enough for urban and trail riding. THis is the only bike I have/need.

Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $1100.00
Purchased At:straight from Deep Cove bike shop
Strengths:AWESOME frame, very strong and beefy as hell. The head tube is oversized, gussetting between the head tube and top tube.....so much I can say. The main pivot is pure insanity! there is absolutely no pedal bob, and the chainline is always the same length. DAMN
Weaknesses:absolutly none

Bottom Line:Cove is awesome. Customer service is great, Craig helped me alot...this is a true freeride beast with downhill capabilities. It can take what you throw at it - period. I've tried numerous high-end bikes, including many I did not mention. For a frame that cost me $1100, NOTHING compares. The suspension is plush yet firm, the bike feels great, there are just not enough good things I can say about the G-Spot except this....quite whining abouty calling Canada, and buying a Candian product, and BUY THIS DAMN BIKE!!!!! I promise, it'll be one of the best things you've ever done.

Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $924.00
Purchased At:Jensonusa.com
Strengths:Absolutely the best bike I have ever ridden. Descends better then anything out there. Ver very plush and no side-to-side flex in the rear. The around the BB shell pivot is amazing, no pedal feedback.
Weaknesses:The bolt to the pivot on the seat tube keeps coming loose. It's a small problem, but does get annoying. Also, this bike does have 6 inches or rear travel, so it doesn't fly uphill, but as long as you stay seated it isn't a problem.
Similar Products Used:Tested a couple other freeride type full suspensions. Nothing compared
Bike Setup:Marzocchi Z.1. Race Face Turbine cranks, XT drivetrain with Rocket shifters. Thompson stem/post. Onxy rear hub/Marzocchi front or Rhyno Lite XL rims. Hayes Hydros. Maxxis tires.
Bottom Line:I come from a cross country backround (my other bike is a Giant XtC) and this is amazing, I've ridden places where I used to get of and walk and I've ridden places that I used to have trouble walking down. And the best part is that I've yet to come to a place where I felt like I was going to endo. Great bike for anything, works wonderfully and does exactly what it was designed to do. Taken a couple 5-6footers and didn't bottom the suspension, but surprisingly it swallows all the small hits too. The best bike ever. You get what you pay for.

Strengths:This frame is highly functional with 6 inches of rear travel that feels endless. I feel completely confident and comfortable blasting downhill. The Fox Vanilla RC is the bomb and is fully adjustable, so I can tune it for big drops or long downhill runs. The frame is absolutely gorgeous and attracts all the ladies...I just tell them I know how to ride a G-spot. Seriously though, the frame turns heads like you wouldn't believe! It is tough, with all the right welds, beautifully machines, and well engineered!
Weaknesses:Some of the bolts in the rear swing arm set-up could have lock nuts on them...but the have not been a problem or come loose yet!

Strengths:Design and materials. This bike is designed for abuse and it shows with extra attention to all the major stress points and extra thick materials where needed. Just check out the pivot around the bottom bracket and the beautifully machined shock pivots!
Weaknesses:I haven't found one yet, except that the 2000 frame set "international standard" disc mount wouldn't accept xt hydraulic discs. Not to worry, Yess productions swapped the chainstay for an updated model. Just beware, if you get a 2000, you better have Hayes!
Similar Products Used:Bridgestone mb5, Gary Fisher MT Tam, Voodoo Canzo Esp

SRAM 9.0 Drivetrain, WTB momentum Head set, WTB momentum bb, White Industry cranks w/ Race Face Rings, Easton, Bontrager, Titec
Bottom Line:This bike rides on rails downhill, and climbs impressively for a 33+lb., 5" travel Freeride bike. The bike accelerates quickly, feels firm through tight single track, and generally wants to be ridden as fast as you can possible push it. I took it to Downieville this year and rode like a moron. I still posted a good time at 50:30! Mainly because this bike doesn't seem to care what kind of line it's on, it just wants you to go faster!!!

THE BEST customer service
Weaknesses:Rear stays hit seat tube
Linkage plates / shock combo is not properly designed (Yet!)
Broke rear triangle near disk mount (I am 215lbs)
No gusset plates at head tube (Hopefully will not break)
Similar Products Used:RM6 and Pipeline,Kona Stinky,Santa Cruz Bullit,Aeon Isis and Joker,Brodie Libedo,Norco VPS-2

Bike Setup:Marzocchi QR20, Hayes Disks w/Mavic 321, XT Shifting, Roox Stem, Answer ProTaper Bars, Syncros Post, RaceFace North Shore Cranks, Gazzaloddi 2.6 / Hakka DH 2.3 tires
Bottom Line:I have had the bike now for three months and am pretty happy with it so far. This is mostly due to the great service from Cove Bike Shop. The frame cracked at the rear disk mount and they replaced the entire rear end the same day while I waited at no charge. There has been a problem with the rear end hitting the seat tube due to the linkage plates and shock not being properly designed for the frame. I have had to use a 700lb spring to stop this but now the suspension is not very plush. Good news is that Cove has the right shocks coming from Fox and new linkage plates are being made. This will all be swapped at no charge. I tried a prototype of this new setup and it was very plush and did not hit.

This may sound negative so far but the bike does ride very well. It is a good mix between a trail bike and a DH bike. It handles well on the big drops and the thin elevated balance moves. I would suggest buying this bike as the latest models will have the right shock and linkage plates and have gusset plates at the head tube.

Submitted by Alan a Cross-Country Rider from Vancouver, British Columbia
Date Reviewed: December 18, 1999
Duration Product Used:
3 months
Strengths:
Plush rising rate 5 suspension
Good all purpose geometry with a downhill slant
Climbs without too much bobbing
Canadian framebuilder, Yeah!
Good value at $1500 canadian
Weaknesses:
Weight (7+lbs probably)
Similar Products Used:
Cannondale Super V
Specialized FSR
Bike Setup:
Manitou Xvert with Dirtworks dual rate springs
Bottom Line:I lusted after a freeride type of bike. Something I could use for xc riding (to get exercise) and for downhill technical insane dropoff stupid stuff as well. I started with a cannondale super V frame and was pleased with it as it was plush and stiff. The super v bobbed/poggoed quite abit in the granny gear though and had a short top tube length that made me feel cramped even with a long stem and setback raceface xy seatpost. Since Vancouver,BC, Canada has long rainy season, lots of technical trails and lots of hills I wanted a bike that would incorporate the following: 1) 5 or more travel 2)coil spring shock for plushness 3) sealled bearings for durability in the wet muck 4) stength for a dual crown fork 5)four pivot design that would good for efficient climbing 6)low standover height 7)allow for extra low seat post adjustments for jumps and stupid stuff. This frame had all of my criteria. After riding for awhile, I have found that the bike handles my all purpose riding quite well. The stroke is very soft in the initial 2 of travel and stiffens up alot to the end of the stroke. The rear triangle is fairly stiff, much stiffer than the Specialized FSR but flexier than the Super V frame. Pedal induced bobbing is less than the super V but more than the FSR. On descents, this frame is clearly superior. On ascents, the Fox Vanilla RC shock has a compression knob that can be used to stiffen up the rear for long fire road climbs. Acceleration is more spirited and lively than the Super V as it resists pogoing better and stiffens up in the last half of the travel. This design does not incorporate the horst linkage like the specialized suspension. The design is very similar to the Kona Stinky frame except the main pivot axis is directly centered on the bottom bracket. As the Stinky has good reviews I presume that this frame also will get good reviews. Overall, this is a great frame and great value for money. Way to go Canada!
