$1100.00 | | Purchased At: | East Coasters Bike Shop | | Strengths: | Fits perfect, ride is incredible, lightweight, awesome paint job | | Weaknesses: | The Wait, 1" headtube (made before 1 1/8 became the standard) | | Bike Setup: | LX, XT 8 speed, Marz. Air Fork, DX Wheels | | Bottom Line: | This review is on behalf of my wife and her bike. She is 4'11" and before going custom she had a cannondale and barracuda. This was several years ago before there were more stock offerings in women specific frames. She loved to ride but the bikes were just too big. After she saw mine she had to have one. Steve Garn at BREW built a perfect bike for her. The first time she got on it, her eyes just lit up. She said it was a night/day difference between this and her other frame. It was at least a pound lighter too.
The tubing has some 853 in it and a mixture of other tubes. The tire clearance is much better than my first frame.
When I crashed her bike into the garage. (Man you talk about grounds for a divorce!!!) He was readily availble to fix it at a reasonable price. Though it did take a little while. He does his painting in house and priced it very reasonable.
She loves it to death.
With regards to dealing with BREW. He's busy, what can you say. But he is also the nicest guy in my humble opinion. Will talk all day about frames and riding and will build a sweet ride tailored to you. You send him an email and he'll pick up the phone right there and call you.
At a time when other small builders are going under he is thriving and growing. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$1100.00 | | Purchased At: | Direct | | Strengths: | Custom all the way, feel of steel | | Weaknesses: | The wait, attention to some details, wait on repairs, poor rear tire clearance | | Bottom Line: | I have two custom BREWs and my wife has one. They are incredible frames. Made to our body measurements, style of riding, and terrain. Steve Garn is the builder and he really knows his stuff with regards to construction, tubing, and geometry. Each tube is hand picked for you. The ride is incredible.
There have been some problems though -It took forever to get once ordered -I needed a repair and that took forever, but he since said that he has changed how he deals with repairs to avoid the problem -Frames required BB facing, thread chasing, and head tube facing, I would have expected them to come with that already done -Rear disc mount didn't work too well, required modification of the Hayes IS adaptor to work properly. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
