    Date Reviewed: October 10, 1999
    Duration Product Used:
    1 Year
    Strengths:
Lightweight, well-designed replacement for Trek Y bike rear triangle.
    Weaknesses:
    Not ready for disc brakes.
    Similar Products Used:
Tried to buy a rear triangle from Trek, but they would sell me one.
    Bike Setup:
Trek Y3, with chromoly rear triangle
Bottom Line:Liked my Y bike enough to keep it and upgrade, but corporate giant Trek does not sell aluminum rear triangles unless it's a warranty replacement. Screw Trek; I spent $350 bucks on a specialty rear triangle made by Boulton Fabrication. It has real bearings (not bronze bushings) and is slightly longer than stock Trek rears for better downhill stability. I do a lot of climbs, and have not noticed any problem with the longer chainstays. Eric Boulton is one serious frame builder, and Trek lost a sale because of its Big Brother policies. The bottom line is I'll ride my improved Y3 until its welds break!
    Overall Rating:5
