Strengths: Welds, overall quality, RMB service, Manitou 6 way, overall feel of bike riding. Pedals surprisingly well for a 45 pound bike.
Weaknesses: Can't run a front derailleur, so running a chain guide instead.
Bottom Line:
I received this frame as a warranty for my 2+ year old Switch. Excellent service and price from Rocky, upgraded many parts to go with new rig.
I haven't ridden it much, but so far it pedals very well for its size, the 888 matches nicely with the 6 way, 6-way a bit finicky to set up, still working on it, but lots of adjustability. It seems to have a nice cockpit for size of bike, launchable, and stable in air. I look forward to summer to put it the real test.
Strengths: iv had the chance to ride this bike to MY potential and it has made me a more confident rider, im only going to get better on this bike. the 888 is super plush(might think about heaver wt oil or a compression sleeve if doing big drops). it sits tall compared to other FR bikes iv ridden, which suits me better. im 6'1" and ride the 18" frame. the redisigned thrust link is great, it pedals very nice with very little pedal bob. it will take whatever you can throw at it. be bike jumps nice too, kind of a MX feel to it. the Saint group is very nice. the brakes stop better than any Hays iv ridden and have a solid feel. the High Rollers are kind of small for FR, get a set of 2.7 Intense or Specialized tires. all in all, i love my RM. Solid feel and super plush on the big stuff.
Weaknesses: structurly the bike is sound. i can find no weeknesses in the bike itself. Only thing Rockey needs to do is give it a decent warranty, 6 months is a joke.
Bottom Line:
if your reading this than you have to be interested, get this bike, you will not be dissapointed.
Strengths: Rocky Mountain Bicycles reinforces their aura of quality with the RMX TEAM. I had the luxury of riding this particular model for the past 6 months. A close friend of mine owns a bike shop and allowed me to play around with this particular model. The welds on this bike look immaculate, moreover, it's overall construction is equivalent to a German car. Component wise, the Manitou Swinger SPV rides a little rough on smaller and slower bumps, however, at high speeds and drops, it cushions quite effectively, while minimizing any pedal bob. Plus, the Marzocchi 888R complements the entire package that effectively absorbs rough impacts or miscalculations. Yes, expect maintenence and quality issues with the 888R but this is expected with any pricey fork on the market so stop whining.
Weaknesses: Every bike will inevitably have its weaknesses. The harder you ride, the more likely a component will break or fail. Nothing is indestructable so that brings me to the biggest dissapointement with the RMX Team - the pathetic 6 month warranty. Unless your a millionaire or someone who can afford to dish out $4,500 thousand for a freeride rig, especially without any worries, go ahead, buy the RMX TEAM. But for normal beings (people who work for a living, who don't live with Mom & Dad, plus maintain a strict budget), the 6 month warranty is a total joke and simply shows that Rocky Mountain Bicycles is afraid to stand by their product on a long term basis. Why BRAG ABOUT QUALITY WHEN YOU CAN'T BACK IT UP WITH A PROPER WARRANTY? Mind you, the Banshee Scream (10 YEAR WARRANTY)looks pretty tempting right now. But hey, different strokes for different folks....
Bottom Line:
This is a high quality bike with a horrible warranty. Unless you have the cash, this bike will cause you headaches if the frame snaps beyond its 6 month warranty. With their propaganda marketing schemes, Rocky Mountain Bicycless simply contradicts themselves. If a company can go so far about bragging about quality, they should at least produce some added value with better customer care. In the end, meticulous consumers, like me, would be better off looking elsewhere!
Strengths: Rocky Mountain reputaton plus very clean, strong welds and high attention to detail.
Weaknesses: Not enough riding time to fully review the durrability of the bike. 6 month warranty is a joke though. Look as though RM is trying to cover their asses.
Bottom Line:
So far the frame rips! It floats off big jumps and feels very stable in the air. The stiffness of the rear end ads tons of confidence for stunts and urban riding. The 6 way shock seems to be a little quicker than a 5th element and less sticky. The thrust link and Swinger 6 way combo work really well together for pedaling up or down. Everything (yes everything) has been beefed up since the RM7. RM also did a good thing by building the frame around the 888 fork. This means a better head angle and better steering with less of a chance of head tube damage (as many people have hade with after market 888's on current frames). Speaking of the 888, it needs work. It's just as smooth as my Shiver was, plus way stiffer, but the internals are dumb. They don't live up to the simplicity of past Marzocchi forks and I've witnessed other people sending 888s back due to broken parts inside. My fork, by the third day, was leaking oil from the right leg. I looked closley and found a small fracture 3/4 down the back side of the slider with oil seeping out (yikes!). Zokes has a replacement coming back to me now. It may be better to wait until '05 when Marzocchi works out the bugs. If you try to mate the new Race Face Diabolus cranks with the frame and OEM chain guide, be prepared for chainline problems. Looks like the best setup is to keep the Saint Cranks (unfortunately). The bike still gets top ratings, since the frame is sooooo good.

Strengths: The newly designed frame, Saint components, Marzocchi 888, Mavic 729 rims, and the Swinger 6-way
Weaknesses: The six month warranty. Rocky Mountain should warranty there frames for longer.
Bottom Line:
This bike is killer! You can tke this bike to the limit. The frame and components are strong and dependable. This bike leaves the competition in the dust. Landings are plush! I think this bike has the plushes and nicest landings of any bike I have ever tried. If you are going to buy a RMX go for the team model. The team model offers much more ajustability and stronger components.This bike is for you if you have the extra money and want a pro bike that will take everything you can throw at it.
Strengths: Were to start: I bought the team frame and built up with parts I ordered. Everything about this frame just feels right. I have had alot of bikes and by far this one feels the best. By no means have I pushed this bike to it's limits. I will say this it handles like a dream and soaks up everything. It climbs better than any full suspension bike I have owned. Rear end is really stiff so tracks like a dream

Bottom Line:
Out of all the bikes I listed that were in the free ride class I like the RMX the best. All were good bikes but the RMX just handles and feels better. I only use it for trail rides creeks and logs so not real hard on it. Lots of short hills and down and tight turns. It handles all this like a charm. The only thing that I am not happy about is the 6 month warranty. I may never need it but Rocky should stand behind there products better than that.
