$900.00 | | Purchased At: | Olympia Cycle and Sk | | Strengths: | Extremely sturdy frame. Good suspension too. With the right gear added on, you can make it look like a sexy creamsicle. Thats what i did for mine. Orange and white for almost everything. | | Weaknesses: | Wheels. I suggest that you sell them while you can still make a buck and get some dirtjumper rims. Anything but alexrims(brutally misadvertised, most of their products should be used for cross country only) and its made of chromoly. Great for weighing you down. | | Similar Products Used: | NS Holy, Norco Havoc, Giant STP1, Giant Brass 1 | | Bike Setup: | NS Aerial pedals, ACS freewheel, Syncros DP25 rims with DMR revolver hubs. | | Bottom Line: | Wonderfully sturdy bikes, but i dont like how they cut corners on the wheels. Also, last time i buy a chromoly bike. Heavier than your sh*t after a night of mexican food. As for the asterisk, use your imagination. I just didn't want my review removed. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$800.00 | | Purchased At: | Jacksonville, Florid | | Strengths: | Great frame! Nice package to learn with. | | Weaknesses: | The grips, pedals, and HUBS! | | Bottom Line: | It has been great to ride. I dirt jumped it for 2 years while in Florida, and it was great! I took some nasty falls, and it stood up well. I have had to replace both the hubs on the bike, the pedals, and the grips. Now that I am in Japan it is not as easy to find dirt jumps, so I put on some street tires, went single speed, and have had a blast with it! It is fun to urban ride, and try some light "trials" riding with. It has inspired others to ride with me, and improved my riding 10 fold over the old hardrock I had. The 2006 is a better option if you can get a good deal on it, but this one is still just as fun! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$1050.00 | | Purchased At: | LBS | | Strengths: | Bike practically jumps for you | | Weaknesses: | None found yet | | Similar Products Used: | 15 inch fully rigid Giant bike (wife's bike turned DJ'er) | | Bike Setup: | OEM | | Bottom Line: | Got a 2008 P2 Aluminum, I am an older guy wanting to try DJ'ing and urban riding before the clock runs out on this type activity. I messed around with pump tracks and DJ'ing on wife's 15 inch mountain bike, it did okay. Had my eye on this P bike for some time, it essentially had many similarities to my wifes bike's geometry and I was not sure if I should get it. Anyway, wow, this thing jumps on autopilot and makes the wifes 15 inch MTB feel dangerous in comparison. Someone over at Specialized spent some time dialing on this bike to make it an autojumper. I am a beginner at DJ, and this is my first DJ bike, all I can say is I am very happy with the purchase. Don't let the P Bike haters steer you away from this bike, if you taco the wheels, just get new ones. I will say that this bike seems very dialed for DJ'ing, not so sure it is a great pavement trick bike, though (manuals are very difficult on this bike). But, I mainly bought it to jump, and it seems to do this very well. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$400.00 | | Purchased At: | Used off craigslist | | Strengths: | Solid. This thing feels like a tank. I do some DJ but mainly downhill trails around UCSC and Wilder. I love the geometry of this bike. It's easy to handle and steer. Manuals and bunny hops are so easy now. I could never bunny hop before I got this bike, and granted I'm not the best in the world at it, I can now hit a jump and launch off it with more confidence. | | Weaknesses: | The weight I guess. I weigh ~160lb, the first few times I rode it up the hills to go on rides were very hellish. I'd gotten up those hills before with no problems, but this bike is definitely heavy. I got used to it though. After about 4 rides, I fly up hills without even thinking about it.
The fork (Marzocchi EXR Comp) is lame. I'm in the market for a new one right now. It doesn't soak up anything really, I feel like I have a rigid fork...that's with all the air out of it. To its credit, I haven't checked the oil levels or anything, but I want a bit more travel for downhill stuff anyway. | | Bike Setup: | '04 Specialized P2, Marzocchi EXR Comp | | Bottom Line: | I love this bike. It's brought me from a brake-riding luzer to actually being able to enjoy the trails around here. I'm not afraid of smaller jumps, I'm working my way up to bigger ones, and I can really let this thing rip on single-tracks. The tires grip everything and put a lot of confidence into my turns.
Yeah, yeah...it's heavy, but if 4 or 5 extra pounds really bothers you that much, go on a diet. The fork is crap...I'm not the only one, many people don't like this fork.
Bottom line: This bike is good for urban. This bike is good for light downhill. This bike is good for jumping. I got it because I wanted a bike that handles everything I throw at it...so far, I'm not disappointed at all. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

I never felt so capable of really fast descents like i do with this machine---going up can be just as pleasing though. | | Weaknesses: | There are definately two things that are like booby prizes---i mean door prizes---at some microsoft programmer office party: the 1978 amf roadmaster perforated patern seat and the butter-soft cone-bearing pedals that i pawned-off on an out-dated bike friend. By the way, i really went limp when i saw that both those items come stock on the bottom-level specialized bmx. i know; they figure a guy's gonna change that stuff out anyway, but... I also think for that price perhaps some non-caveman era sealed bearings in the hubs wouldn't have bankrupt specialized. | | Similar Products Used: | Nothing, i guess i've always just bmxed-up some girl's 24 inch mountain bike or something. | | Bike Setup: | 2006 (not the 2007 with the "powell-peralta" type graphics) Stock bike except for, rougue grips because the stock ones migrated around the bar like this chick i dated for a month, mavic "deetrack" wheelset (replaced the decent sun-ringle singletracks), wtb moto-raptor tires, geared-down the front cog to 32 from 34 and upped the rear from 1-28 to 11-32, which makes climbing far better, demolition pedals (oh yes), and last, a 16 buck mongoose seat (also by velo) that beats the fuse rectum-checker hands-down---or should i say cheeks? | | Bottom Line: | I saved big dollars (about 700)not parting together a bike because this one had some inteligent stock stuff. Good frame guarantee and i am over 200 lbs. and it feels as good as anything i ever straddled. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$650.00 | | Purchased At: | Used | | Strengths: | Like somone else said, its like riding a tank. Its heavy but strong, but theres always that compromise. -frame geometry is good -handel bars and stem are beefy although the stem could be longer. (I have the short version) -seat seems decent though I hardly spend any time on it. | | Weaknesses: | The fork isnt as bad as people have been saying, Its heavy for how much travel you get but land on your rear tire like your supposed to and its all good. Its a dirt jumper not a downhill specific bike. I personaly loath truvativ because I work at a summer camp and they fall off our rockhoppers even after I have muscled them on with locktight. But these hussethingy cranks arent bad...I guess truvativ's plan with them was use splined cranks and make them as thick as possible...I guess it kidna works. -breaks kinda suck, the one side fixed pad idea is dumb and you loose a ton of rolling speed when they rub, i might go to vbreaks on the front and hydros on the back..it just seems to make sense. | | Similar Products Used: | norco bigfoot | | Bike Setup: | Factory | | Bottom Line: | If you can handle the weight its good, personaly I would rather build a bike up from scratch but I got a deal..whatr you gonna do eh?
Ride the fork till you break it...then you know how good/bad it realy is.

Im a taller guy going from riding a bmx bike to a mountain bike and I like how it feels like a bmx but rides like a mountian. I like the bike as a whole. | | Weaknesses: | Well like everyone says the fork is on the soft side and tends to easily bottom out and it is on the heavy side but that goes with the fact that the frame is a monster and holds up. Within the first month I've had some squeeking but WD40 will clear that up fast. | | Similar Products Used: | Hardrock Comp, P3, P1, NorCo | | Bike Setup: | Pretty much stock but Im in the process of upgrading it | | Bottom Line: | Its a great bike for the price and can hold up (the frame) and it feels like a bmx with the advantages of a mountian bike. Upgrade the forks once you start getting intense with it but even though Its heavy you can man handle it and make it do what you want. If your a smaller guy and arnt as strong I'd go with something a litle lighter or wait and build some muscle so you can use this bike to its true potential! $719.00 | | Purchased At: | Guys Bicycles | | Strengths: | Low stand-over height, low center-of-gravity, agility, style, value | | Weaknesses: | weight--just a little heavy (but a carbon frame would cost too much!) | | Similar Products Used: | Cannondale Chase 2 | | Bike Setup: | Rockshox suspension seat post, SRAM Dual-Drive 27-speed drive-train, Specialized Armadillo Crossroads tires, Slime Tubes, Cannondale Super Cush Gel saddle. Note: these items added a significant amount to the initial $719. | | Bottom Line: | I purchased the 2005 P.2, not the 2006, because I don't need hydraulic brakes or a hydraulic front shock for my purposes (and I didn't want to pay $300 more). My inseam is only 29" (although I'm 5'10"), so the only bicycles that fit me were the Specialized P-series and the Cannondale Chase-series--manufacturers seem to assume that everyone has at least 32" inseams, which is why they make bikes with stand-over heights of 28" or more. The P.2 has a stand-over height of 26.5", making it fine for me (giving me 2.5" of clearance). I love the slant of the top tube; I've fallen on trails (due to unseen extreme undulations), but in no case has the bike fallen on top of me!
What sold me on the P.2 was the amazing agility and very low center-of-gravity. The bike is extremely stable. I tested many, many other bikes at all of the local bike shops, and the P.2 was simply superior. The only drawback for some people will be the weight; but I'm trying to lose 30 lbs, so purchasing a super light bike made no sense for my situation. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

I am 6'2" and 160 LBS and I have taken this bike off stuff that I take my stinky primo off of. ( 20 foot gaps, 15 foot drops and anything else and I have yet to break anything. the brakes are okay, the rear 6" rotor and capilar needs to be replaced as it was weak and doesnt stop from day 1. the fork hasnt broken yet, but it is somewhat broken and doesnt work properly. nice cheap price. | | Weaknesses: | the fork is way underrated for the rest of the components. I would suggest swaping it out. the fork itself is okay, but it isnt made for the type of riding that the bike can put out. | | Similar Products Used: | Kona stinky ( 04 ) Specialized P.1 ( 04 ) specialized demo 9 pro ( 04 ) Specialized p.2 ( 03, 05 ) Muddyfox Therapy ( 04 )Norco Manik and a Kona Scrap ( 04 ) | | Bike Setup: | stock ecept for swaping out the fork for a while with a Marzocchi 66 for extreme riding, and new replacement Specialized Grips | | Bottom Line: | I bought this bike in august of 2004 and I have yet to take it in for a tune up. this bike is nothing short of amazing and I would reccomend it to anybody ( unless you are looking to ride road or long distance ) at a great price ( for the 04 ) it is definatly worth the money. plus it is the best bike in its pricerange for the time. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$650.00 | | Purchased At: | COMPETITIVE EDGE BIKE AND SKI | | Strengths: | Diesel frame. You can defenitley thrash on this bike and it'll spit it out, dirt jumping, or down a few sets of stairs. This bike has an aggressive stance and the design flows nice. | | Weaknesses: | The rear brake. I'm thinking of upgrading just the rear brake to a juicy, or similar hydraulic brake. I would also agree (with other posts) that the front fork could use an upgrade. | | Similar Products Used: | I tested a Trek Bruiser and the P2 just felt like it followed a line better. Check out the Cannondale Chase and also the Scott Voltage series (yes they're selling bikes stateside again). | | Bike Setup: | Stock... for now. | | Bottom Line: | This bike can take a lot of abuse. I'd shop around a bit to find a good deal (they are out there) but the gap in price is too much between a P2 and a P3 for me to justify shelling out $1300 on a P3. Get a P2,and upgrade at your convenience. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$800.00 | | Purchased At: | ABC | | Strengths: | - Takes a LOT of abuse. - Good frame geometry, helps in manuals/wheelies. | | Weaknesses: | - Fork isn't very suited for a freeride bike, bottoms out on 5 footers. - Brakes could be better, but they aren't a big problem. - Rims can bend quick. - Chain guide does not allow to add a bash ring. | | Bottom Line: | This is a really nice bike. Obviously, all the weaknesses are there because of the low price the bike costs; if you can, get the P3. Otherwise, this bike can take anything ou throw at it. It handles 6+ footers (you'll have to change the suspension, though), bike throws when you're frustrated ;), etc. I highly recommend you ditch the existing chain guide and put on a BlackSpire NS-1 or similar chain guide right away. You'll realise you needed one when you're stuck at the top of the mountain with a bent chain rim ;) This is a good bike to start with and upgrade gradually when more $$$ comes. I added a chain guide, changed the fork to a DJII, and the bike is becoming a dream bike.
The bottom line is : if you are a hardcore freerider/urban assaulter/light downhiller, this bike is for you and will take as much abuse you can give it. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$880.00 | | Purchased At: | Revolution Cycle | | Strengths: | the frame is really strong. I'm 6'1 and 195 and i've done 5 foot drops to flat, real easy. so far, the tires have held me up good, and the brakes are working decent, which is more than i expected for entry level componenets. great feel when riding, and it's not that heavy, compared to other bikes i've ridden. | | Weaknesses: | umm...once again the entry level componenets. I've had some trouble with the deore rear derailleur after about 6 acutal months of riding it. My rims are starting to wobble, which is affecting the brake rotors. The grips on my bike were really annoying. They slid around and the way my bike was set up, the grips hung over the edge of the handlebars, so i opted for some ODI lock-ons and moved everything in on the handlebars a little bit, problem sovled. The fork is weak, it is constantly losing air pressure, so i picked myself up a dj3 used, for a real good price. Other than that, brakes start to squeal, just use a business card, although i'm gonna look at finding a cheap pair of hayes nines, or maybe mags. | | Similar Products Used: | 03 Kona Stuff, 04 rocky mountain flow, norco 125 | | Bike Setup: | 04 p.2, DJ3's, husselfelt 22/32 crank, front derailleur, everythinge else is pretty much stock....for now | | Bottom Line: | This is a great bike, period. For my first decent bike, i'm really happy with the value i got for it, and the parts that were on it, they've gotten me over some decent drops and pretty steep trails. Except for the fork, i'm really pleased with everything else, just once you start getting heavy into it, you're gonna wanna change over the stock parts. THis can get expensive, but just sell the old stuff, you make some dough anyway. Go buy one, you won't be disappointed. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$900.00 | | Strengths: | -Frame, very strong frame especialy for the money. Also durable finish, just a pain to keep cleen. -Wheels, quite durable although rear hub has come loose often, and broke front axle. Axle broke more from the xc fork flexing from the brakes then anything. -components and brakes, are good for the price, give them a break in peiod, especialy brakes, mine have worked strong and flawless. (learn simple bike maintence)
| | Weaknesses: | -Fork, broke on the drop out, of a curb......yes a JRA Marzocchi gave me a great deal on the Dirt Jump, to replace the EXR, which they new should never have been put on the bike, and actualy fixes and apologises more or less were as, Specialized won't even deal with you, they take no fault or responsiblity for putting the lousy fork on the bike. -Cranks, steel insert turned out, Truvativ sent out new ones no questions, didnt even send the old ones in. -Box Guide, Serves purpose just not as well without a bash gaurd. Only able to run a bash gaurd with certain sizes of rings, 32 being to small, it hits the top box on the BOx Guide. -Pedaling the beast up hill. Stock tires grip but wear quick and do not help the pedaling ability. Swapped short stem out for a 70mm and with the K-rad's it can tackle almost anything now. -

Great for most all around abusive riding. A little on the heavy side for trials, but with right bike set up it could work quite well. Biggest thing is bike set-up and maintence being the wrost enemy of this bike. Get a compentent mechanic to set-up, fix and adjust your bike and it will treat you well. Great bike that does nothing perfect but all things well, DJ, Trials, Urban, Freeriding. Bike covers all aspects of riding without much flaw. From peadal grinds to dirt jumps to drops it can do it with ease. Only four chilis, more for Specializes reputation. Putting on such a poor quality fork and saving big money. Putting people at risk without taking the blame...Mad prop to Marzocchi for helping fix this error on Specialized part. Don't even bother calling them if your frok does break, they just send you right to back to were you started from.....without a forkless until you buy a new one. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

You will find the silver bush insert in the crank arms comes out when u try to change the pedals, meaning u need to refit the bush's. Very bad design fault. The rear mech is hardly precision to be honest, although not too slow at shifting. Tires wear very quickly (don't lock up else you'll be riding on your innertube in seconds!!!). $710.00 | | Purchased At: | River City Cycles | | Strengths: | Stem, Cranks, Rims, hubs, brakes, frame and the shifters. | | Weaknesses: | Tires, Bottem bracket, headset and Fork | | Similar Products Used: | P.1, Hardrock pro disc, Kona Stinky, Kona scrap, Muddyfox Therapy and a Giant STP 1 | | Bike Setup: | stock | | Bottom Line: | This is a very strong bike. I am 6'2" and I got the "long" frame and I fit just fine on it. the cranks havent givin' me any trouble bit the bottem bracket clanks and cracks right now. this fork it HORRIBLE !!. I am saveing up for somethig else ....I had a Mozo M30A on my other bike and I prefer that fork more than the Marzocchi EXR comp that was put on my P.2 . so I would reccomend replaceing the fork with a DJ3 or something like that. other than the few weaknesses this bike is awesome and I would reccomend it for hard riders between 140-175 LBS . | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$500.00 | | Purchased At: | EBay | | Strengths: | Everything is good right out of the box with the exception of the forks. | | Weaknesses: | The forks arn't that great, they squeak and they are weak for big drops. The bike also dosen't come with a rock guard. | | Similar Products Used: | Specialized Bighit and P.Street | | Bike Setup: | 04 P.2 with an E.Thirteen, I'm going to get some DJ 2's soon. | | Bottom Line: | This bike is excellent. $1150.00 | | Purchased At: | Canary Cycles | | Strengths: | This bike is worth the money, the frame is amazing, it can take alot of beatings, and the crank is awsome. | | Weaknesses: | The fork blows and the breals are not the best but they are holding their own. The rims suck, i have had to get my back one trued like ten times. and the tire wore down like soft butter. | | Similar Products Used: | Norco Sasquacth | | Bike Setup: | 24' Double track in the back, chain pimp bash guard, DMR saddle, Vee Ruber Doughty in the front, and a Nokian Gozza Jr. in the back. | | Bottom Line: | For the money this is a wicked buy, i would suggest getting a different fork and breaks, but this bike is very good for begginers and can take some hits, it is pretty good for trails, but is awsome for jumping and trials. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
