$1100.00 | | Purchased At: | sports power | | Strengths: | frame, headset and bars, brakes, cranks all very solid | | Weaknesses: | rims were very easy to buckle, rear derailluer was sh*t house (never using shimano derailleurs again), fork seals blew out on first week | | Similar Products Used: | giant stp, kona cyndercone, da bomb sputnik, gt chucker | | Bike Setup: | standard | | Bottom Line: | not a bad bike really, had a medium size frame which seemed a bit shorter than other bikes ridden. sun ditch witch rims were extremly easy to buckle, rear derailluer was the worst i've ever used (got caught in spokes which ruined derailluer and bent the hanger), the air shocks were too much of a hassle because you'd either put in too much air or not enough air, fork seals had to be done within first week of riding. i would recomend ugrading forks, wheelset and derailluer to a sram item | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$1000.00 | | Purchased At: | Keswick Mountain Bik | | Strengths: | Invincible. You just can't break this thing! Awesome for learning to jump on. Dirt jumper 2 forks are brilliant, seat is comfy, and the stroker ryde brakes are very sharp. | | Weaknesses: | Nasty wheels, changed them quickly. First attempt at stopping at speed nearly threw me over handlebars, you need to get used to the brakes. Hard to wheelie aswell. | | Similar Products Used: | None | | Bike Setup: | Lock on grips, DMR v8's, Mavic 823's UST, Geax tyres. | | Bottom Line: | Fantastic bike for the money, few minor changes, but nothing to beat the bike down about. $1000.00 | | Purchased At: | Cafe | | Strengths: | I was totally impressed with the front fork, they have changed it now but at the time it was a Drop Off 3, The frame is strong and the bike overall is great for whipping around corners or whipping mid air. The stock tires were great, I rode this bike really hard and didnt get a flat tire for 2 and a half years. | | Weaknesses: | The only weakness I saw wasnt really a big one, but me and everyone that tried my bike found it really hard to manual/catwalk for more than a short period of time, it must have been because of an improper weight balance | | Similar Products Used: | -Santa Cruize Jackal -Kona Shred -Kona Scrap | | Bike Setup: | Stock Set Up with new pedals, rotars, and brakes. All of my custom parts were only purchased because after about 2 and a half year obviously some new parts were needed. | | Bottom Line: | Bottom Line- Amazing Bike to learn on, I learned how to dowhill, uphill, freeride, dirt jump, XC... pretty much everything on this bike. $800.00 | | Purchased At: | CyclePath | | Strengths: | Solid frame. Easy to whip around. replaceable dropouts (only on the 07 stuff and cowan) good handle bar and stem setup | | Weaknesses: | Front derailler really has no use, Kind of the same with the rear derailler. I just run it single speed with a through bolt. Forks smash out on the rebound and sometimes get partially locked out | | Similar Products Used: | Cove Sanchez, Cannondale chase, Santa cruz Jackal | | Bike Setup: | Dmr rear Hub and singlespeed kit other that that it is pretty much stock except for a fork rebuild. | | Bottom Line: | I am reviewing the 07 stuff. A great bike to get into dirt jumping with once you take off the front derailler and get a better rear derailler or go singlspeed. Replacable dropouts are a major bonus. Its a shame they didn't put them on the 08. Overall a good bike on the jumps, whips easy, lots of room to get over feet over the top tube. It has the geometry of a dirt jump mountainbike, not that of a glorified BMX bike. It isn't to pricey to its a good bike to start out on. Once you get more into the sport than you might wanna upgrade to a steel frame, but it is easy to upgrade if you wanna stick with aluminum . | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

The tires are good, High Rollers. The breaks are great, hydro's. The crank comes loose time to time, but thats a very easy fix(hex Wrench). The seat post is confusing, if you are going to adjust your seat, loosen(do not take out) both the skrews, then move the seat to where you want it, then tighten them. The pedals are good, nice and gripy(dug into my shin a centimeter). The handle bars let you control the bike, the clamp size is 31.8. If you like to jump and do slight freeride, this is the bike for you. Do not get this bike thinking you can ride XC and Freeride, the geometry sucks for XC. I've used this bike for lots of challenging trails, it handles amazingly on anything, technical, bombing, jumps or whatever you throw at it. Once you take this thing on a ladderbridge I have confidence in it's balance and control. | | Weaknesses: | I pumped up the fork to it's hardest and it's perfect. Used to bottom out until I made it harder. | | Similar Products Used: | 2004 Kona Stinky | | Bike Setup: | 2006 Stock, Kona log grips | | Bottom Line: | I love this bike. Its amazing. I use this bike on XC races and it was light enough to pedal up hills and strong enough to decend at high speeds. This bike is a cool dirt jumper that can handle a ton of air. I would reccomend this bike too anybody that bikes anything. No matter what kind of riding your doing it will work great for it. Which can get annoying when you ride every day. | | Bike Setup: | 2006 66 vf2 marzocchi fork, Hayes hfx 9 brakes, Outlaw front rim with 20mm through axle, and the ditch witch rear rim. | | Bottom Line: | The frame is super tough, and handles our shasta phat to flat landings fine although stronger rims are essential. $1400.00 | | Purchased At: | NZ Dollars!! ^^ | | Strengths: | The Frame's pretty sweet, and it's bright green! Good stock setup with the Hayes Nine Hydros and the Truvativ gear on them is rather soild... Marzocchi Drop Off IV's are all good for dirt jumping but drops of 1.2m (4ft) it's a bit :S feeling... so they were upgraded! But they have a 20mm axel which is a good change from the 05!! | | Weaknesses: | 06 still has the Ditch Witch rims, haven't yet had a problem but know they won't last too long if treated like I do... Shimano Deore.. meh, only becomes a problem going uphill! | | Similar Products Used: | Kona Cowan... picked the stuff cause it wasn't so d/j orientated and it was a good price! | | Bike Setup: | Stock 06' but have 8 inch rotor on the front and some 06 Boxxer Race forks | | Bottom Line: | Great bike for the price, can go anywhere you want it too really with out problems... but not off everything! Is a great beginners bike with components that should last a long time and are pretty good quality (only Kona stuff on there was the seat, grips, pedals and of course the frame!) which I like for the price... and it looks nice in well... dark lime green I guess you'd call it! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$800.00 | | Purchased At: | Continental Bike Shop | | Strengths: | [This is a review for the '05 Stuff] Beefy components all around, Excellent geometry if you're coming from a XC bike, excellent price: my shop knocked off $150 (to 800) - I guess Kona was clearing out the 05's. | | Weaknesses: | Grips slip and were too small in diameter for me (swapped for other Kona grips). Fork takes a while to get broken in, but it is a Marzochi, so at least it won't get sloppy like a Fox. As my first hydrolics, they do need adjustments every few runs and some prying apart every now and then, but I guess that's to be expected. | | Similar Products Used: | Cannondale Chase | | Bike Setup: | Stock, but trying different shock oils | | Bottom Line: | I'm thoroughly pleased with this purchase. I got the Stuff so that I could use it as both a dirt jumper and croos country bike. It does both well enough for my abilities... | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

The forks are great, the frame is strong and the overall bike is fairly light. | | Weaknesses: | The stock Hussefelt crank is garbage and they could have put a better wheelset on, the ditch witch are okay, but not great. Change the seat right away! The brakes are alright, at least upgrade the front to hydro. | | Similar Products Used: | Norco Sasquatch and 24 Porn King. | | Bike Setup: | I changed the crank to an FSA X drive (chromo arms) much better than Hussefelt. Hayes hydro up front and upgraded to DH Primo stem and bars. | | Bottom Line: | The Stuff is a great bike. It's tough for going off jumps and doing stair sets, but it's light enough to climb up hill. It won't break the bank as well. I would recommend this bike to anyone who just likes to boot around the city or likes to do some jumping and things like that. There really isn't anything this bike can't do. Upgrade the crank right away and at least put a hydraulic brake up front. I am in the process of putting a Z1 Bomber up front with the QR20 axle. $900.00 | | Purchased At: | Grove's Cycle, Kamakura | | Strengths: | The Kona Stuff (and dirt jumper series to include the scrap and roast) has an incredibly strong and durable frame. I ride this bike hard and have hit numerous drops (greater than 4 feet) without any evidence of frame stress or damage. The truvativ crank set has not given me any problems as of yet, and the Marzocchi Bomber Drop-off Comp 110mm is, well lets just say unbelievable. For an air bladder shock to be this durable is rediculous. I weigh 180lbs and beat this fork like a rented mule, and it laughs at me when I am done. | | Weaknesses: | As other reviews have stated, the stock wheels are less than desirable if there is to be ANY kind of jumping/landing greater than 2 feet. The standard shimano hubs with cheap spokes just can't handle the stress. I rebuild the stock SUN RIMS with shimano XT hubs and DT spokes. no probs since. Also, I am constantly tweaking the brakes. they will rub and could grab a little more quickly, but all in all, they are good disk brakes. | | Similar Products Used: | Gary fisher, Hardrock, P-3. | | Bike Setup: | Stock, with the following changes: rebuilt wheels, as previously stated. Shimano LX brake levers. heavier cables throughout. Shimano Deore rear derailer. Chain guide/tensioner. WTB weirwolf 2.5 inch front tire. | | Bottom Line: | I love this bike. It is truly a beast. Although the components that come with the machine are not the greatest, this is a great bike to get if you want to start riding a little harder and more rough trails. This bike was designed for getting big air on big dirt jumps, so if you buy it for the purpose it was designed, realize the components won't last and expect to start replacing and upgrading things as they break. If you can work a deal with the bike dealer to upgrade the wheel sets do it, even if it adds a few hundred bucks, its worth it. Because you will end up paying for it in the future anyway. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Nuff said. | | Weaknesses: | Brakes rub but not too bad. | | Similar Products Used: | Kona Scrap my girlfriends and my buddy's Kona Hoss | | Bike Setup: | Stock. | | Bottom Line: | This bike kicks a$$. I was really supposed to get a Hoss myself but after riding my girlfriends Scrap I decided I liked it better. The bike is tough. I'm a big guy 6'5" and 250lbs. I'm not hardcore or anything but there have been multiple times that this bike has had to support my weight coming down on it from small jumps and little drops. It even does a passable job of climbing up the hills right before you bomb back down. It's heavy enough to feel well grounded but light enough that there is no problem throwing it around when things get twisty. The pedals are so grippy that you would swear that you were glued in. Front shock does an awesome job of soaking up rocks, roots, jumps or drops. Like I said I haven't gone off anything extreme but this is the stock fork I'm talking about. The money I spent is totaly worth it. It's a bargain bike that rides like a million bucks. I would recomend this bike to anyone. If your just getting started it's decent price for the quaility and an awesome starting point to upgrade as you go. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$800.00 | | Purchased At: | Gears | | Strengths: | Unbreakable, Awesome suspension and great geometry on the frame. | | Weaknesses: | Brakes go out of allingnment and the rims warped. | | Similar Products Used: | P2, P3, Sasquatch, and other heavy duty hardtails | | Bike Setup: | stock except 4 brakes and rims. | | Bottom Line: | Great for the money. Sasquatch costs more though this is a better bike. I tried it on downhill, bumpy but strong. Can't handle any more than an 8 foot drop. Good solid bike for any level. Watch the rims. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
