Strengths: Size was a huge factor as I'm 6'4, lots of points to adjust for comfort measures especially in the handle bar area. Nice & easy peddling on the dirt paths & paved roads, not a bad peddle for the hard terrain eitherWeaknesses: In order to take this off the beaten path to the harder paths, some minor upgrades will be necessary i.e. bar ends, better peddles (comes with stock plastic comfort peddles). The rapid grip shifter gets in the way in hill climbs when aggressively mtn biking & can't add after market front shocks with out paying A LOT of money, if you have that kind of money, then buy a better bike..Bottom Line: It's truly a great bike for the money. Odds are you won't be spending the 99 price of $200 - $300. Its awesome for road riding & bike trails. Some minor modifications will be needed to take it Mtn biking with your buddies if you want a cheap mtn bike, this will work. I kept alongside & even pushed further than my buddy with his $1000 Cannondale. If you see one for a decent price, grab it for your kids, yourself or as a spare. Can't go wrong

Strengths: Great price in 2000 as a closeout. Steel frame takes a licking and stays tight. At 28lbs, not too heavy. Handle bar is very comfortable. Grip shifters work well.Weaknesses: Dual use tires are too timid for trails, too heavy and soft for true road use. Gear range is not wide enough for more than average conditions.Bottom Line: A tough little bike that needs some customizing to be good at either of its "parent" environments. Mine is now set up for the road with 100 psi 26 x 1.5 semi slcik tires, aero bars and spd pedals. It just would have taken to much to make it a serious MTB.

Strengths:
Comfortable as can be on gentle trails.Weaknesses:
Forces a posture which is too upright.Bottom Line: I'd been riding a rigid Cannondale M300LE when I decided to buy this Navigator for my wife. It comes with a very soft seat atop 2 of shock post -- a big difference fom the 300 which is a stiff, stiff ride. An interesting feature of the Navigators is a handlebar stem which allows for the angle of the bars to be adjusted through a relatively wide arc. This is nice, but we've found that in most configurations the geometry of this bike still forces the rider into a fairly upright position -- fine for easy trails and the road, but a little unstable when the going gets rough.
But, for a comfortable ride over moderate trails, at a great price... the Navigator is exactly what it is supposed to be. Great, grippy breaks, and while the shifter's a little sloppy, a little fine-tuning keeps it in line.
4 out of 5 for filling its niche.
