Bottom Line:

This was the first mountain bike. It comes in a cool shade of yellow. The components are junky, but managed to last a full year. The bike has seen 800 miles on road and 250ish on trails. No real problems besides adjustments.
As for performance, she climbs like a dog, but a good natured dog. You always know when she will want to give up. The aluminum frame is reasonably light and is actually pretty responsive. The brakes need a lot of adjusting and are a pain in the ass to set up.
As far as road riding, the bike was very comfortable and fast enough. I took her on a 55 mile tour and made decent time, beating out most people on hybrids and a few roadies.
The MRX-170 Grip Shifters weren't the most accurate, but you could adjust the trim with them by coaxing it. The front shifter broke after eight months. Luckily I was only tooling around the neighborhood.
The tires ain't the most aggressive in the dirt, but they are pretty sweet on the road.
All in all, the bike was good for what she was used for, mostly excercise and touring, and the occaional expedition into the woods. I've since upgraded to a Trek 7000 and am very pleased with that. I am considering putting slicks on the Peugeot and upgrading a few components. it is either that or buy a road bike.
I couldn't recommend the bike. At 370 there has to be better deals out there, but she served her time well and made me a better rider.
In the end I give her three chillies as an all around bike, five a beater, and one as a mountain bike--for a grand total of two chilis for this bright yellow fully rigid steed.
