$199.00 | | Purchased At: | bike usa (Kearney Mesa | | Strengths: | steel frame, easy to use shifters, great gearing range. | | Weaknesses: | overall wieght | | Similar Products Used: | none | | Bike Setup: | completely stock | | Bottom Line: | for the money this was an excellent way to get back into bicycling, or to just start. I rode about 80 % on the road with this, and the occasional easy trail. this bike works great as a relaxed road bike for people who don't want to be bent over all the time. Now that I am 50+ this is something to think about. the gearing is awesome. there is not a hill around a you can't climb. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Date Reviewed: July 26, 2000 | | Duration Product Used: | 3 months | | Strengths: | 24 gears, powerfull brakes, very solid, versatile tires, price | | Weaknesses: | Feels stiff when taking bumps, handle-bar quite large for long ride | | Similar Products Used: | Oxford, Rocky Mountain and Norco hybrids | | Bottom Line: | Now in 2000, I was able to get a great deal on the 1999 model. I bought the bike in replacement of my stolen S.I.S. hybrid. I must say, when compared to SIS, the shifters on this bike really shine: precise and quick. I was also impressed by the powerfull brakes. It gives you great confidence.
The 24 gears on the bike are great. The extremely easy first gear makes you feel ready to attack any slope. The top gear is adequate, but not as fast as I would have liked. At about 40km/h, you find yourself pedaling quite fast even in the 24th gear. But this is acceptable for an hybrid.
I like the fact that each front platter offers you 8 gears. With so many gears per platter, I rarely shift front platter. Having only one shifter to worry about is great for the city.
On the open road, the bike really glides when the tires are fully inflated. I do find the handle bar a little large for long trips. I usually grab the handle in the middle when at speed, and I am considering investing in a pair of profile bars soon. On the other hand, I like the relaxed and straight posture I get when in the city.
I did a little off-road biking on dirt and gravel trails. I didn't experience any problem.
During my first month using this bike, I put about 700km on it. So far, I don't see any deterioration in the bike's performance. (The gears got a little unprecise, but a free setup from my bikeshop fixed it. This is normal for any new bike).
In summary, this is a very solid, reliable and versatile bike, great for city riding, casual to intermediate cross-country and/or casual mountain biking. This bike will last you a long time, and give you pleasing performance for any kind of riding you enjoy. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from Virginia Beach, VA, USA Date Reviewed: July 9, 2000 | | Duration Product Used: | 3 months | | Strengths: | Nice shifters, great brakes. | | Weaknesses: | OEM Seat blows chunks. Recommend replacement. No bar ends. | | Bottom Line: | Nice, solid bike. Much lighter than my old crappy bike. Looks nice, which is a plus. One on-road fall, no dents, no scratches. Brakes are awesome, even though the levers are only 2.5 finger. Gripshifters are quite responsive. OEM seat provides little to no butt cushioning, but a $20 replacement random.gel.saddle offers much comfort at a low price. Quick-release tires quite easy to use, both front and back. Grips are grippy. You need to buy handlebar ends if you want them, but I haven't really needed them yet. You definitely want to buy a Camelbak-type device - the bike is very fun to ride and you'll want to spend an inordinate amount of time on the bike. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Ill write again as soon as the weather allows us to hit the trails. By the way I ride a G.F. Tassajara, great bike with front suspention for under 500.00 ... See Ya | Overall Rating: |
