Strengths:    If you read the reviews you will see that I reviewed this product just after I purchased it in August of 2000. It is now 7 years later and I still own and ride the same bike. The bike has operated great for the past 7 years and I have NO complaints. It looks and operates as good today as it did when I originally reviewed it. This bike has not even needed a tune up. Im not near ready for newer bike. Thanks Schwinn!

Weaknesses:    None...........Oh I guess it could be lighter.

Bottom Line:
The review speaks for itself.

Strengths:    cost
smooth ride for the money
tough frame

Weaknesses:    RST shocks
grip shifters
riser bar
pedals
weight

Bottom Line:
This was my first real mountain bike. The frame is just a good old fashioned steel frame, and the Shimano parts are fine. The upgrades I made really improved this bikes performance. I have since upgraded to a Moab 1. My girlfriend rides the Frontier now. There is no real comparison between the two bikes, but I could buy 3 Frontiers for what I paid for the Moab. The Frontier is a great beginners bike. If you think you might enjoy mountain biking but you do not want to spend a fortune to find out; start with this bike. It is an excellent value.

Date Reviewed: December 20, 2000

Strengths:    confident shifting thanks to a decent Shimano derailleur,
good brakes,
not too aggressive frame geometry makes for a fun ride,
excellent fit and finish: the Toyota corolla of entry level bikes

Weaknesses:    gripshift is better suited for a hybrid bike on paved trails,
I can see replacing the front fork after several months of hard use

Bottom Line:
To say it's a good bike for a great price is an understatement. The Schwinn Frontier fs is a great choice for inexpensive transportation to campus, work or exploring a local trail. In the sub $300 range, no one can touch this bike for features and quality

Strengths:    -frame structure
-tires
-stainless steel spokes
-spungy seat
-great cable runs
-not too hard of a back end
-decent suspension

Weaknesses:    -heavy
-gripshift(i upgraded to shimano rapid fire)
-pedals(i upgraded to clipless)
-riserbar (i put in a rocky mountain flatbar)

Bottom Line:
I think this is a great bike for beginners, ect. This bike come with a lot of crapy features such as gripshift. Most of the stuff on my bike is upgraded. If I were you I'd probably go for a Schwinn Mesa or Moab (spend the extra money)The fork is a decent but after using it for a while the springs start to losen up, toooo much! If your going to be riding it a lot downhill like me get a better fork or even a better bike.

P.S. mountain bikin rules

Strengths:    Excellent breaking. Great tires, Stainless steel spokes, smooth shifting.

Weaknesses:    None that I know of!

Bottom Line:
I purchased this bike a short while back. In my opinion it is a fantastic all around bike for the money. I test drove at least 7 bikes (under $400.00) before deciding on the Schwinn Frontier FS. Im not a serious rider, but enjoy casual trail and road trips. I think it is a fantastic buy for anyone interested in enjoying biking without spending a fortune. I have added seveal accessories to my Frontier such as a computerized speedometer, suspension seat post, lighting, etc. If you are looking for a great casual bike, this should suit your needs fine.

Strengths:    -Decent Fork
-Decent traction tires
-Upright positioning, for around town
-Cushy Seat
-Failry crisp shifting, I think...
-Riser bars

Weaknesses:    -Upright positioning, BAD for races! UCK!
-Fork turns to OAK in winter
-Tires suck in mud, and mud only
-Brake pads dont last very long?
-Grip Shift-style shifters.. Shimano's Rapidfire prevail

Bottom Line:
Decent all around bike. For a beginner, it's probably very nice. Lasts a long time, and it pulls wheelie's )@)*#)@ing good! hehehe, maybe it's just because of the high CG. I dunno. Give it a try, you'll more than likely like it. If your looking for a DURABLE trail bike.. this isn't it though. Personally, I'd just save up your money and go with the Moab or something, but that's just me..
