Strengths: great frame!!Weaknesses: wheelset, front forkBottom Line: This is a great entry level XC ride with a frame that demands upgraded components. The geometry was a little funky at first, but inverting the stem took care of that. Its cheap wheels made me a cautious rider too (I had to true them after every ride), but after getting a quality wheelset I was able to break more rugged peices of the bike like the fork. Once I decided to start racing I upgraded other components, and now I have much more than an entry level steed. The Soul is Rocky Mountain's way of getting a race worthy frame to a poor consumer who wants ridable components that will eventually be upgraded.

Strengths: the fram is very strong and the bike it self i have found is very good at climbing hills in many differrent conditions. Rocky mountain really focused on the frame but is still has good componets. only now are the other companies putting there triger shifts closer to the brake making it easier to change gears. the bike is good at falling down drops and is very confterble with a manitou SX shock.Weaknesses: i have found that when it is raning the brakes tend to sing their hated songs. for me the suspention was already changed to a manitouBottom Line: the bottom line is that this is a good starter bike for who ever is interested in mountain biking. it controls well ouce you learn how to tame it. Soul is stong enough to take a down hill trail anytime.
I love the fact that this bike is made in Canada and has a life warenty on the frame.

Strengths: -very well made bike
-good components, smooth shifting
-lightweight (much easier to carry up three flights of stairs than my last bike)
-handling feels tightWeaknesses: -the seat is hard as a rock!Bottom Line: Simply put - this is a great bike! I was really blown away at the quality, especially since my previous bike was an older CCM. I've learned that one of the most important factors of a bike are the quality of the components. In this case, it is very good. The rapid fire thumb shifters are very nice, I am now able to fly up hills like never before. The brakes are ultra responsive-even capable of sending you over the bars if you're not too careful.
I am very pleased with the suspension. I have not bottomed it out yet, but in the near future I may upgrade to something a little more plush. The fact is, if I wanted a factory bike with better suspension, there would be a big price jump to get to that next level.
This is largely why this bike is so appealing, you get great value for your money. I bought this bike when the last 2001 bikes were on sale to make room for the 2002s(my price above is in Canadian dollars). When I started shopping around for my first "good" blike I didn't intend to spend this much money, but after getting a good look at what's out there I came to the conclusion that you really DO get what you pay for!
Beginners and intermediate riders will love this bike - I sure do!
Just do yourself a favour and get a softer seat!

Strengths: Canadian made. Lightweight frame and good components.
Great colours. Excellent ride.Weaknesses: The seat is hard, but getting used to it.Bottom Line: Its a great bike. Finally got rid of my Raleigh Record 10-speed after 30 years. Fancy bike for an old fart. Kids on the block love the bike, think its cool. Ride it around town and through the country. I've taken it on some park trails and had a blast. I can't wait to get home from work, so I can go for a ride. Components are fine for me, but can see why others might want to upgrade the forks. Great ride, nice colours, glad I spent the money on a good quality bike. Cost was under $800 Cdn. Should last me another 30 years, hope I last 30.
