classic good looks, sharp handler, light weight for a late 80's rig, DEORE DX!!!, rarely see another one on the trail

Original spec quickly grew outdated (upright stem, old style bars, heavy/weak wheels)

Bottom Line:
This rig has truly aged gracefully. With only a new set of hoops, and a few weight/comfort upgrades, it will still hang with the young pups. With the rigid fork the geometry absloutly sings for the twisties. I drooled over one at the shop I worked at 8 years ago; when this one came up for sale, used, I jumped on it (litterally) for 1/4 of the going price back in 89 (I was told that the top few Paramounts were built at the Waterford factory!?). What did I get for the bargin price? A very reliable thoroughbred mount that has stood the test of time. Handles corners like few bikes I ve ridden, not the best climber due to the period-norm-short top tube, and Deore DX, how many modern derailures will still be tight in 10 years? Thumb shifters?? I'll put it this way, name another shifting system that will bring you through the entire gear stack in 1/100th of a second w/o mutilating your wrist or fussing with umpteen thumb-jabs... perhaps the most under rated gear-train technology in mountain bike history. Ride them in the technical stuff before you knock 'em. Finally, how about that story of racing pedigree that came out of the Waterford plant? True or not, who cares. It's inovation was authentic. It was not marketed with BNG (bold new graphics) or cookie cutter frame building like the rest of the industry seemed to be hooked on. In short, Im not looking for anything new in the near future.
